Zeroing Out For The New Year

Monday, January 1, 2024
Day Zero

Here we go, happy New Year.  I have said for years -- and still stick to it -- that New Year's Day is not the day to start on resolutions.  For me, staying up late means I'm not going to get up early, at least not without suffering (and I'm not big on suffering), plus we have a family meal that isn't exactly diet-friendly.  So all things start no earlier than January 2.

I took the time yesterday to write out my goals for 2024 and I have to say they are pretty audacious.  I have little doubt that I will not accomplish them all -- there are not enough hours in the day -- but if I can make major progress on weight, eating and exercise habits, sleep and consistency I will be thrilled.  Maybe I should organize them by tiers -- it's less important, for example, that I do some of my decluttering and home improvement projects.

Anyway, 2023 kinda sucked.  Significant surgery and recovery from that, gained more than fifty pounds (most of that in the last three months), not much progress personally or professisonally.  Let's do better.

Breakfast:  Leftover buttermilk pancakes w butter and maple syrup, 3 strips bacon, spicy low sodium V-8, coffee, banana

Cleanup.  Another FAT stack.  I still have bacon left for tomorrow -- it's store bacon, not CF, left over from holiday cooking.  Since I'll be eating conventional ham tonight and probably tomorrow I'm not going to sweat it.  Obviously.

Lunch:  5 Guys little cheeseburger all the way plus jala, little fries w ketchup ($15.56 + $1.00)

Tasty as it is every year.  Also didn't feel like as much of a terrible value, seems like their prices haven't gone up as much as some places.

Also:  I'm glad I don't feel the need to track any macros today.  Lots of ingredients in that burger!

Snack:  Avo oil maiz tortilla chips, guacamole, mexican coke

I do like the Maiz chips, nice clean taste.  But alas, carbs.  Also, I have to admit I have enjoyed the mexican cokes.  I'll be completely fine giving them up -- being mostly off soda for years now -- but it's been a treat.  Done.

Dinner:  Ham, scalloped potatoes, corn, rolls w butter, 12 oz Miller Lite, pecan pie w vanilla ice cream

And a few cheezits to top it off.  Jeez I'm fat.

Exercise:  Nope.  Slept in until just after 8:00, didn't really get moving until well after 9:00.  Just poky so far today.
