I really need to get off the cycle of bloating up on weekends. Golf season can't get here soon enough. It's bad enough that I eat too much at home, but then I do the Sunday dinner and eat additional crap on top of that. One thing I will say is that I'll be making at least one more trip to Popeyes before the end of the month -- I am going to try and do a super lean (spending-wise) February. Darned tasty chicken sandwich.
Breakfast: Coffee
Yup. Didn't get in as crazy early as I had hoped but was still in before 6:45. Extra coffee needed.
Lunch: 2x Popeyes spicy chicken, peanuts, cojack cheese
Yeesh. Waaaaay too much and just an awful selection of stuff. It has been a while since I audibled off soup and grilled cheese (which always sounds good) - the pressure of knocking it off for February must have gotten to me. Also, note to self, don't buy peanuts.
It took more than an hour (more like two, really) before satiety kicked in. I think the lack of water until I got back to work was a factor. Need to drink more water earlier.
Dinner: 3x mexican, 2x american tacos, 12 oz Miller Lite
Working on eating down the dessert stocks, going to try going without once they are gone. We'll see.
Exercise: Nope. Cold, just enough snow that it would not have been much fun. But due to work (my failure to go in yesterday or work a lot more on Saturday) I had to go in as soon as possible.

TGIF. Still have to get through the day - most of it anyway - but there is a weekend in sight. A weekend that will be chock full of work. And other not fun stuff. But it will still be a weekend and that matters.
Pretty standard night, made it to bed on time, woke up once around 2:00, made it back to sleep after that. Was still pretty tired this morning, despite lots of time in bed. But once I got up I'm fine. I did determine that the snore app has a bug, I paused it for a few minutes when I got up, checked the results and resumed. When I woke up, everything was a zero which is obviously not accurate. Oh well. I just need to not pause it I guess. Or move the phone. Other than that it seems to work.
No penalty for last evening's excess, which was a bonus. Planning on a routine day today and a trip to the grocery store tonight. Might try to shake it up and go after dinner, not sure yet.
Breakfast: Coffee
Yup.
Lunch: Soup, grilled cheese, kosher dill chips
Same. And it hit the spot as usual.
Dinner: Leftover home tacos, 12 oz fuzzy navel hard seltzer, avocado oil chips, SF vanilla pudding
Excessive. Hit the grocery store after tacos, still came home with some junk. Sigh.

More eventful than usual yesterday. Had a physical for the first time in a couple years, at the end of which they scheduled me for one in a year, so I guess I'm expected to make it that long. No major concerns and I did get additional confirmation that my home scale is accurate (I mean, having lunch plus being clothed has to be good for seven pounds, right?). Okay, accurate enough anyway.
Also, in exciting-only-to-me news, I received delivery of a nugget ice maker. It's definitely a splurge, but I'm hopeful that it will help me increase plain water consumption a bit (plus reduce the impact on my teeth of my stupid lifelong ice chewing habit) and relatedly suppress appetite. Not expecting major impacts, but hoping for small ones. Plus ... I like nugget ice. I tend to buy one major thing a year around the holidays and this is it. Cleaned and tested it last night and so far so good.
No taco power reflected on the scale this morning alas. I didn't sleep well, woke up at 2:30 with a terrible headache and it took me quite a while to get back to sleep. I also got confirmation (not that I need it) that the snore app is of somewhat limited use -- I previewed when I woke up and then looked again when I got up and things looked a lot different. Much of which was to be expected as I moved to the recliner and moved the phone as well, but I did not expect the first three and a half hours to look so much different.
Anyway, everything is pushing in the same direction, I need to make some improvements. Consistency, the bane of my existence, is required.
Breakfast: Coffee

Lunch: Soup, grilled cheese, kosher dill chips
Yup. Cojack this time since that's what I bought this week.
Dinner: Mushroom swiss burger, fries w ketchup, 16 oz Two Hearted IPA, mixed nuts, 12 oz grape hard seltzer, SF butterscotch pudding
Invited out to dinner. It was good. Kinda had the hunger tonight.

I do find it curious that I can let go of so much water on a day that really wouldn't qualify as low carb in any respect - I had a sandwich and chips for lunch, corn tortillas for dinner, and a shake for dessert. And yet plenty of it flushed away. Happy about that of course, but it is definitely curious. I had no idea what to expect this morning.
Anyway, another day of grinding upcoming. Slow start after a mediocre night of sleep, lots of time in bed, lots of snoring. Once again did not wake up at 4:15 so that run is definitely over. Oh well. I definitely did not get to bed as early as I had hoped, since I had to actually prepare dinner instead of just reheating it, plus dawdling, but I was still tucked in before 10:00. I did have a hilarious dream that I remembered just enough of to put me in a great mood.
Breakfast: Coffee
Yup. Easy three cup morning, could have had more.
Lunch: Soup, bread w butter, sharp cheddar, kosher dill chips
All standard. Probably as far as I can push the bread without toasting it, so tomorrow looks like a grilled cheese sandwich.
Dinner: Mixed nuts, 12 oz grape Odd Side hard seltzer, home tacos, Nicks mint chip
You know, the hard seltzer is growing on me. In a pint glass with max ice, it's quite refreshing. Might become a more regular choice, at least when it's not freezing out there. Tacos were really good, I hope that I continue to tolerate them well, because I'd like to feature them regularly.

In avoidance mode this morning, I'd rather type this up than work. Which is unfortunate, since I have heaps and heaps of that to do.
Felt denser this morning. Was pleasantly surprised to dispose of a bunch of water overnight, I just felt more solid this morning. Sure, super fat and all that, but denser. And that was despite eating way too much yesterday. And I was not shorted on carbs either.
Got up once in the night a little before 2:00. Interestingly I snored much less than I have been the rest of the night, I suspect I found a better position. Alas I was extremely tired when I woke up -- later than my recent usual -- and there was no way I was going to get moving. Despite my desire to walk and need to get to work early. Too tired.
Anyway, my new galaxy-brain idea is to make myself try walking in the evenings, back to work to get in a little extra time. We'll see how that goes -- the weather forecast isn't real promising for it over the next couple weeks, some bitter cold coming and several shots of snow. But it would combine two things I really need to do.

Lunch: Jimmy Johns Vito, salt and vinegar chips, diet lemonade
Planned lunch foiled by work issue. Sigh.
Dinner: Mixed nuts, 12 oz Odd Side grape hard seltzer, home tacos, home shake
Predictably I was hungry. Tacos dressed with cilantro, onion, cheese, guac, sour cream and hot sauce. Tasty, though I didn't do a very good job with the tortillas. Better luck tomorrow.

Switch Off Inflation

Got a little carried away yesterday in particular and this weekend in general. I really do need to muster up some consistent discipline if I'm going to break this cycle of gaining on the weekends. It should not be that difficult and yet somehow it is, all it takes is a crack in the will and boom, there's a major breach.
In any event, I went through much of the stuff I bought at the store, just need to clean up a couple of home shakes for the most part. I probably need to axe the desserts in general, since one of my goals now is to consume less dairy -- my goodness do I consume a lot - to see if that reduces inflammation.
Seriously, though: Knock it off. It's time. I've gotten so sloppy on my eating, eating way too much and way too much junk. If I can do that and be much more consistent on just getting a little exercise, things should improve pretty quickly.
Breakfast: Coffee

Lunch: Soup, bread w butter, sharp cheddar, kosher dill chips
I've got the loaf of bread I baked yesterday and enough dough in the fridge to do one more for next week, then I really need to give that (and the cheese, frankly) a rest. Just have a pint of soup. Had a smaller container today since I knew I had plenty of other stuff.

You have to love taco monday. May also have to give that a rest, though given my history of having good days on the scale after taco monday maybe not. I am completely out of beer and vowed not to buy any more until I finish off these hard seltzers that have been in my fridge for months.
Exercise: Nope. Woke up at the now-usual time but was still very tired and sleepy so I did not push myself out the door. Snore score was about the worst ever. It wasn't that hard to not go out as I noted that we had a little snow and frizzle to make things slippery.
Not sure what it is going to take to get to that point again where I really enjoy the walking. That's been rather disappointing. I have absolutely not had the energy surge I remember having all those years ago.

The month is rolling along quickly. Not enough is being accomplished. Not good. Time to ramp up the intensity.
Woke up at 4:15 after another night of even more snoring (seriously, I wonder how high the numbers on the app go) but was awake and alert. Easily deterred from going out by the sound of hard rain, so I reclined. And eventually, much later, I nodded off. Got some fitful sleep with some crazy mishmash dreams and I was tired when the alarm went off. One of these days I'll really get it ingrained that I need to get up when I wake up, at least if I'm awake when I do so. Going back to sleep during the week almost never works out well.
Pleasantly surprised to see a dip on the scale despite the million mini tater tots. Yeesh. A little exercise is indeed a good thing.
Breakfast: Coffee

Lunch: Soup, grilled ham and cheese
Stray jar from an old batch, one that had potatoes. I've gotten away from putting any in. Hmm. Anyway, as usual I was not ready to be done eating when I was done, but at least today it only took a couple minutes for satiety to kick in and that urge to go away. Yeesh. Good thing I didn't have any chips.
Dinner: Dominos brooklyn sausage mushroom, 12 oz Miller Lite, mixed nuts, SF butterscotch pudding
Cracked. Hard. Got bait and switched, too - I was emailed today that I had points for a free pizza ... but they expired yesterday. Doh. It was enough to plant the seed though. Argh.
Exercise: Nope. As forecast, it was pouring rain this morning. Yuck.

Doze No Sleep

Well that was interesting. I woke up at 4:00 after about six hours of sleep - lots of snoring but generally acceptable - and that was going to be it. Tried dozing for a while, but work-related thoughts prevented sleep, so I finally got up and went out for a walk. Was a little dozy afterward but again didn't nod off. So far so good. I am going to take it as a good sign that I wasn't fatigued enough to fall asleep either time, that maybe my efforts to get extra sleep really are making a difference, that I'm not so far in sleep debt. I have a metric ton of work to do, so any banking I can do will be helpful.
Anyway, up a bit on the scale after yesterday, not a surprise. Too much rice, too many beans, too much food. Not a major concern, at least it was good stuff. I'm a lot less concerned about small gains when I've been eating good stuff, not sacks of mediocre fast food or excessive chain pizza.
Breakfast: Coffee

Lunch: Soup, grilled ham and cheese
Predictably I was fairly hungry after being up for nine hours before eating, though it was never a big deal.
Dinner: Lentils, mini tater tots w ketchup, mixed nuts, 12 oz All Day IPA, home shake
Ugh, way too many tots. I poured poorly.
Exercise: Walk, estimated 1.2 miles, 30 minutes. I sliced several flat blocks off my usual route but still dealt with the hills. Decided not to push it too hard after Sunday and Monday's back issues and the fact that I haven't done much of anything for months now. It went okay. Slow, but okay. I don't expect to be able to get out tomorrow or Friday due to the weather forecast (and, you know, my unpredictable sleep schedule), but we'll see. It was nice to get out there.

Back Set Back

Ugh. Yesterday did not quite go as desired. I (luckily) have not had a lot of back issues over the years but it was a problem starting in the afternoon. It continues today. I'm working around it as best I can, moving gingerly and carefully, but the pain is not completely avoidable. And it greatly limits what I can do. At least it does not majorly impact my ability to sit at my desk and work, though I'm sure that doesn't do anything good for it. Please be temporary!
My estimate of what the scale would look like was way off, much to my pleased surprise. Apparently even a little exercise has a positive impact. I expected bad things given the extreme food intake and bad things that were consumed. Plenty of liquid was disposed, which I'm sure was quite helpful. On the psychological front, I barely managed to refrain from additional late eating, which would have been completely unnecessary as I was quite full - it was purely mental, the desire to eat. It didn't hurt that I could not decide what it was I was craving and didn't have junky snackable stuff left, I ate it all already.
/derail: I have been skimming back through the archives and man it's been a long time since I've been serious and focused and consistent for more than a couple days. I see my weight bouncing up and down within ranges of ten pounds or so. The current range is definitely higher than it was during the summer -- it may be that regular exercise really does make that much difference. I have been getting none of late and that most likely contributes to my being 25 pounds above my low. But it's also very much bad diet - slips, fast food, sugar, tons of pizzas. All of the above. I can do better and I need to do better. Vacation coming in a couple months. Golf season. I want to be leaner and freer when that time comes.

Way, way too much brisket. Oh well. Cleaned up. Unsurprisingly I was very sated all afternoon.

Exercise: Nope. Stupid back. I did also sleep as late as I could get away with, it was needed.

Survived another week. That's a good thing.
Not a great night of sleep, never felt like it was very deep. Always on the shallow end. At the same time I can't say that I remember waking up and checking the clock, so sleep was happening. Some anyway. I woke up early and just gave up shortly after 4:30. So far I'm not tired or sleepy, so that's good. Hoping that I can keep the same sleep window -- I was a little late getting to bed last night -- and just sleep as much as I need to. We'll see if that works.
Anyway, lots to do today.
Breakfast: Lazy bagels w veggie cream cheese, coffee
Half of a batch, we'll see if the other half keeps for tomorrow. Cleaning up.
It may only be amusing to me, but the internal clock is spot on today ... I got up to check the timer (don't want to bug the neighbors at six in the morning) on the lazy bagels and there were six seconds left before the alarm. How is that for precision?
Lunch: Open faced brisket sandwich, Popeye's spicy chicken sandwich
Sandwich from the BBQ place, it was a hike to get there but worth it. Very tasty, just bread, mashed potatoes, brisket and gravy. A while later I hit the brand new local Popeyes. Excellent. Yeah it's no wonder why I'm fat.
Snack: Bowl of ranch jalapeno snack mix
Tasty. At least I got the small bag.
Dinner: Leftover home burger KMPO, 12 oz Miller Lite, home shake
Just as good the second time. Quite pleased with the seasoning. Yeah, I'll be up tomorrow but OK.
Exercise: Nope. Reasonably active day but nothing I can point to.

No, I can't quite make myself say TGIM. But at the same time, as Mondays go this one has been okay so far. It was nice to have the routine in place, even if it wasn't the most productive time.
Another weird night. Went to bed shortly after 9:00, figure I was asleep before 10:00. Woke up at 2:00 and felt pretty decent, decided it would be way premature to get up. Didn't have too much trouble going back to sleep. Definitely went back into REMs as I had a lengthy dream, then from 6:00 until I finally forced myself to move after 7:30 it was fitful snoozing. I definitely got 9+ hours, but it still could easily have been longer. Once I got moving I was completely fine but taking that first step was rough.
Breakfast: Coffee
Yup, back on track.
Lunch: Soup w a few Club crackers, leftover banana bread w butter
Cleanup of leftover crackers and bread from the weekend party. Both now gone. That is one plus of this time of year, fewer things going on should mean I'll have more control over what I eat. In theory.
Dinner: 2x mexican 2x american tacos, 12 oz Miller Lite, potato chips, home shake
Standard tacos, though they were on the light side. Too many chips but they're cleaned up. Definitely had the hunger tonight.
Exercise: Nope. Intended to get up early, but failed. Not too full of regret. Definitely had a little more crap in the lungs too, sleeping on the bed (horizontally) appears to exacerbate it a bit.
