Something New

Thursday, February 15, 2018

Made a major purchase today.  Stressful, but so far I'm happy with it.

Breakfast:  1 slice sourdough with butter, 1 slice sharp cheddar, coffee

Forgot to take a photo, go figure.

Lunch:  Corned beef hash w/ 2 eggs over medium, cinnamon raisin toast, coffee

Pic taken after cutting and mixing in the eggs.
Almost forgot.
Apparently bagging on my lunch place helped, this was even better than Monday.  10/10 will eat again.  BTW I only ate one slice of the toast because I was ... full?!?

Dinner:  Fried lake perch with tartar sauce, french fries with ketchup, 16 oz Miller Lite

Slaw dish looked ENORMOUS.
Did not want.
Invited out, it was OK.  I didn't find anything on the menu too exciting.  Didn't eat the slaw.

Exercise:  Nope.  I did do some stairs though which was nice.  Not quite as challenging.

Soup And Sandwich

Wednesday, February 14, 2018

Weird day today.  Standard start, then I didn't have lunch until 4:00.  And some other stuff, which I'll perhaps detail later.

Breakfast:  1 slice sourdough with butter, 1 oz hard salami, 1 slice sharp cheddar, coffee

I give up.
Out of the salami.

Lunch:  Chick Fil A spicy chicken sandwich, large frosted lemonade

No picture, on the go.  It was a really good sandwich and the frosted lemonade is crack.  I did manage to skip the fries.

Dinner:  Spicy beans, 2 strips CF brisket, medium avocado

Yeah, that.
The beans were from the most recent batch, tasted good.  They were, however, really, really, really soupy.  Oh well.

Exercise:  Nope, short on time today that's for sure.  Too bad, because it was actually pretty nice.

Too Much Too Early Too Late

Tuesday, February 13, 2018

Ugh.  The stress got me.  Woke up from a work-related nightmare at 4:15 am.

Made it through the day but pretty tired.  Certainly too tired to do much of anything this evening.  And I'm convinced that the tiredness played a large role in the dinnertime cracking.

Breakfast:  1 slice sourdough with butter, 1 oz hard salami, 1 slice sharp cheddar, coffee

You don't even have to ask how I feel about photo rotation issues.
Even had an extra cup of coffee this morning.  I knew it was going to be forever until lunch so I had the sourdough too.

Lunch:  Qdoba brisket bowl, no bean version

Would it be gauche to just ask for a bowl of brisket and guac?
Standard.  Not quite as huge as usual.  Still delicious.

Dinner:  Domino's thin crust ham, pepperoni and onion pizza

Darned convenience.
Yeah, fail.  Tasted good though.  Of all the chain pizzas I think this the one I like best.

Exercise:  45 minutes focus on biceps, triceps and core.   It went better than expected.

I Don't Don't Like Mondays? Maybe?

Monday, February 12, 2018

On second thought, even Mondays that I don't hate kinda suck.

Woke up really super early this morning, but it was due to stress and not anything productive.  Didn't get up and do anything to alleviate the stress, either.  But today has been survived.  Tomorrow may be worse.

Breakfast:  ~ 1 oz hard salami, 1 slice our family sharp cheddar, coffee

This picture would be unimpressive no matter how it's rotated.
I didn't get Armour salami since there was a backup at the deli.  This was some packaged kind and it was merely OK.  Probably won't get again.

Lunch:  Corned beef, hash browns, 2 eggs over medium, cinnamon raisin toast, coffee

Fantastic if not healthy.
After bagging on my favorite lunch place last week this time my meal was outstanding.  Go figure.  It helped that it wasn't busy.

Dinner:  3 ground beef tacos, mexican style plus cheese, avocado and hot sauce

They gave me lots and lots of cheese.
You gotta love taco monday.  What a delicious dinner.  Again not healthy but delicious none the less.

Exercise:  Nope.

In Which I Am Wake Resistant

Sunday, February 11, 2018

Another night of suboptimal sleep, though I got to bed earlier than I thought I would.  Woke up, wasn't awake.  Woke up for real and the sun was up.  Oops.  Almost 9:00.  That's not good.  If I can ever get myself onto a real schedule maybe I'll invest in a daylight alarm clock.

Breakfast:  Slice sourdough with butter, 1 egg over hard, 1 slice our family sharp cheddar, 5 strips our family bacon, can of V-8, coffee

Bacon disappointment
A nice, if salty and greasy, breakfast.  The breakfast sandwich was good.  The bacon, alas, was not as good as yesterday.  Some of that, I think, depends on cook time and how much grease is blotted.  I think it's better if you don't blot it so much (like I did today).  I like it soft.

Lunch:  4 slices CF brisket, a whole lot of Vigo yellow rice

Rice.  Yellow Rice.
If your reaction to that picture was "holy **** that's a lot of rice", you would have had the same reaction I did.  I clearly did not eat half of the package last time.  Note to self, portion it next time, it's enough for 3 servings.  Really good, though.  I bought more yesterday.

Snack:  2 oz Meijer hot and spicy peanuts.

Weird that they come in a bag instead of a can now, but I guess that way they can charge more per ounce.

Dinner:  Steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, 12 oz Miller Lite

No that is NOT a pork chop.
The steak was eye of round, which isn't great as a steak but that's how it was cooked and consumed.  It was OK.

Exercise:  Nope.  Argh.

Beaned Up

Saturday, February 10, 2018

As I feared, making a batch of spicy beans last night took forever.  I didn't get to sleep until well after midnight and my whole schedule is off as a result.  Way off.  Stress level is also off the charts.  Stupid work.

Breakfast:  2 eggs fried in butter, spicy beans, 4 slices Our Family bacon, coffee

Aaaarrrrrrrrrgh
I had an odd amount left over after filling my jars last night so I saved it for use this morning in the place of hash browns.  Which worked fine, though the beans easily overwhelmed the eggs.  Also, there is something about freezing and thawing the beans that deepens the flavor, makes them better.  At least I think it does.  These were not as good as the jars I've pulled out of the freezer this week.  We'll see how this batch is later.  Also of note, the bacon was not the usual thick cut, it was some regular store bacon that I bought for project since abandoned.  It was ... fantastic?!?  I may have to swtich.  We'll see if it's as good next time, I have a couple strips left for tomorrow.

Lunch:  12" antipasto pizza

At least the pizza picture isn't messed up.
This is pretty major fail.  I should know better than to sit down with access to more pizza that I should eat.  I need to portion it and put away the part that I'm not going to eat right now.  Because otherwise, I eat it.  That's what I do.  Pizza is damn kryptonite.

Dinner:   None (so far), decaf coffee

At least I wasn't hungry because I ate all that pizza between 3:00 and 3:30.  Oh, that reminds me, I did not have a cider last night.

Exercise:  Nope.  I did fish out my pedometer and put in a new battery.

Happy National Pizza Day!

Friday, February 9, 2018

It's a thing, apparently.  Fitting that it's on Friday, which is my favorite day of the week to eat pizza.

I did not eat pizza.

Believe me, I thought about it.  A lot.  I like pizza.  A lot.  But I also like sleep and if I want to get to sleep before midnight and make a pot of beans I needed to start on them, not wait for a pizza.  So pizza will have to wait.

I did have a lot of other stuff today though.

Breakfast:  Slice of sourdough with butter, 1 CF japaleno snack stick, coffee

Again skipped the buddig and I didn't take the time to fish out salami.  Last of the snack sticks.

Lunch:  Scramble with egg, american fries, ham, green pepper, onion and cheese;  2 sausage patties, 2 slices cinnamon raisin toast with "butter", coffee

Yeah, that's the half order
I like this place for lunch .... I'm just not crazy about the food.  I ate about half of the scramble, the eggs were overdone and I'm not all that wild about american fries.  I would have asked about subbing hash browns ... but I'm not crazy about those either.  I've become quite the breakfast potato snob apparently.

Pre-Dinner:  2 oz Meijer hot n spicy peanuts

Almost forgot to include this.  Yeah, today was calorifffffffffic.

Dinner:  CF brisket, Vigo yellow rice

Wow, the angle makes that look like a TON of rice.
It wasn't.
It was two servings though.
First time eating the yellow rice, it was just something I had on hand that someone had recommended.  Quite good and easier than when I made it myself, but that ingredient list.

I am considering having a cider later.  I have two left and it is Friday night.  We'll see.

Exercise:  Nope.  Need to get on that this weekend.  A snowy morning.

The Same But With Ham

Thursday, February 8, 2018

Another day, another dollar.  Maybe even two dollars.  I can't say that I have lots of pep or enthusiasm, but I've had worse days.  Not sure if I mentioned it but yesterday I actually had some pep, even jogged a step or two in a rare fit of energy.  Not the case today but whatever.  One of these days.

I did make it to the store tonight in hopes that sometime this weekend I'll be able to make more beans and a batch of soup.

Breakfast:  Slice of sourdough, lots of butter.  Coffee

Decided to skip the buddig this morning, I was late and wasn't feeling it.

Snack:  CF jalapeno snack stick

Lunch:  Qdoba brisket bowl

This is not a stock photo.
No beans today, otherwise the usual bowl.  It's a lot of food and a lot of calories but it is good.

Dinner:  Spicy beans with 1 package of buddig ham, small avocado

A very very good batch.
Put the buddig I didn't eat this morning to use.  Also happy that I had 2 avocados left in my bag since the first one was overripe and unappealing.

Exercise:  45 minutes core, back, shoulders mostly.  Average.

Freezer Finds

Wednesday, February 7, 2018

Feeling a bit more upbeat today which is nice.  Getting up was a little easier (though it wasn't any earlier), fewer aches and pains, not as stressed, all positives.

The other day I found in the freezer -- okay, I didn't exactly have to look hard -- three jars of spicy pinto beans that I froze the last time I made them.  It's been a while, so I had some trepidation as to how they would taste.  Had one tonight and they came through quite well!  That's such an easy dinner (as long as I remember to thaw a jar) -- toss 'em in a pot and heat.  If I have time to make some more they may well go back into the rotation.

Breakfast:  1 slice sourdough, lots of butter, package buddig beef, coffee

I'm getting to the point where the more butter the better I like the bread.  I could do without the buddig.

Snack:  1 CF jalapeno snack stick

Lunch:  1 slice meat pizza w hand tossed style crust, Arby's roast beef gyro, coffee

A laughably terrible photo of the 'gyro'.
Didn't know if I'd get anything to eat at my lunch meeting but they ordered pizza.  Decided to try the 'gyro' afterward since I kept the pizza to one slice.  It was quite good, though no match for a real gyro.

Dinner:  A pint of spicy pinto beans, 1 package of buddig turkey, small avocado

Have I mentioned how I hate rotation fail?
As mentioned, happy with the beans.  Used up a package of turkey.  And the avocado was a nice addition too.  A most satisfactory dinner.

Exercise:  Nope.  As mentioned I may need to consider evenings, not excited about it though.

Temptation Part Nine Thousand

Tuesday, February 6, 2018

I just don't understand my brain.  I had dinner.  A decent dinner.  I certainly didn't skimp.  I was sated without being stuffed.  And yet driving home I still had to struggle with the temptation to get more food via drive thru.  It makes no sense.  Why do I have the psychological need to binge?

Managed to fight it off but jeez it's annoying.

Breakfast:  Slice of sourdough with butter, package of buddig ham, coffee

I think I'm going to try salami and cheese instead.

Snack:  1 CF jalapeno beef snack stick

Decided to eat something before working out.  I think it was a good idea.

Lunch:  Qdoba brisket bowl

QDOBA
The usual.

Dinner:  Fried perch, 1/2 baked potato w butter, a slice of bread, a couple onion rings, small salad w thousand island, cup of beer cheese (?) soup, a chicken wing, crackers and bar cheese, 16 oz Two Hearted

Sounds worse than it was.  Portions weren't huge.   Ate a variety instead of a lot of any one thing.

Exercise:  45 minutes mostly core today.  Worked pretty hard.

Slight Inspiration

Monday, February 5, 2018

While I accomplished ~ nothing this weekend I did spend a little time reading some of the archives.  And not just the FAIL parts.  It was pleasant reading through some parts where I actually succeeded.  I'm going to have to go back again and again to reinforce the good stuff.  It's not that difficult:  Walk and cut the carbs.

Breakfast:  1 slice sourdough w/ butter, package of buddig beef, coffee

Lunch:  Marbled cornbread scramble with pico de gallo, diced redskin potatoes

Dinner:  3 ground beef tacos, mexican style plus cheese, avocado and hot sauce.  Might have a cup of decaf too.

Exercise:  Nope.  Unsurprisingly I could not get out of bed on short rest.

Another Superb Owl Sunday

Sunday, February 4, 2018

I'm on board with having the Monday after the Super Bowl being an official holiday.  It's never enjoyable to have an 8:00 meeting or something, really takes away from whatever enjoyment is there.

Set an alarm for early this morning, in hopes that I'd be up to a walk in the snow.  No dice.  I'm really having trouble getting out of bed on any kind of short rest, a testament to just how poorly I sleep.

Breakfast:  CF spicy beef bacon, a slice of sourdough with butter, coffee

I like this stuff.
I think by now the generousness of the butter can safely be implied.  Lol at me, a person who used to go real light on the butter.

Lunch:  3 eggs in butter, 4 strips thick applewood bacon, hash browns in butter, a small avocado, can of V-8

We have the breakfast.
Quite a feast.  I miss the good hash browns.  Otherwise it was quite decent.

Dinner:  Ham, salami and cheese sandwich w mayo on a sub roll, chips, salsa, some dips, 12 oz Miller Lite.

Didn't eat that much considering.

Exercise:  Nope.  Lazy and tired.

Step Back

Saturday, February 3, 2018

Not a good day today, though really the only unplanned part was eating dinner.  The issue was eating lunch too early and I didn't feel like getting too hungry.  Hmm.  No vegetables either.  Not good.

Breakfast:  Slice sourdough with lots of butter, CF spicy beef bacon, coffee

Really nailed the time and temp on the beef bacon, it was fantastic.

Lunch:  Chick fila a spicy chicken sandwich, fries, large frosted lemonade, 8 pc nuggets

Lots of calories.  Sugar too, darn that uber delicious frosted lemonade.  Stuff is like gold crack.

Dinner:  Lee's Famous Recipe 3 strip spicy snack with ranch

Exercise:  Spent an hour or so walking around a convention center.  Plus a good hike to and from the car.  I'm counting it.  My back wasn't too happy with me the first half of the day, so it was a bit of a struggle.

Exercise:  Nope.  Bitterly cold.

Stomach Over Brain

Thursday, February 1, 2018

It's a new month.  Sort of getting on track in late January has boosted spirits and a few pounds have been shed.  I can't say that it's been a huge breakthrough, I'm still fat, tired and weak.  But at least there is a little reason to be optimistic.

Coming home after work my stomach was lobbying for a pizza or burger.  Of course I wasn't actually hungry, it just wanted the feeling of being full.  Mouth joined in and the chorus was loud and obnoxious.  But I prevailed.  Barely.  Stupid traitorous organs.

Breakfast:  2 slices sourdough with generous butter, 1 package buddig beef, coffee

Standard.

Lunch:  Qdoba brisket bowl

I like pics so much better in landscape.  Doh.
Also standard.  Today's burrito artist was a little more generous.  It was a good bowl.

Dinner:  CF spicy beef bacon, 1 slice sourdough with generous butter, V-8

Okay, that's NOT a pretty picture.
I probably could have skipped dinner.  Without much consequence even.  But I am wondering if one of the reasons that workouts have been hard lately is that I'm just not eating enough.  We'll see.  I did enjoy it though -- even though I overcooked the beef "bacon" it had nice heat to it.  Will eat again (and not just because I still have 2/3 of the package left!).

Exercise:  35 minutes variety.  Lots of core.  Today was a MAJOR struggle from the start.   Just very weak and kind of tight.  Heart rate got up quick.

Sourdough All Day Every Day

Wednesday, January 31, 2018

I have not quite mastered the hunger yet but I'm gaining on it.  I could probably make it less of an issue by simultaneously eating more (fat and protein) and whacking the unnecessary carbs.  But for now I'll just keep plugging away at the possible even if that means I eat sourdough.  A lot of sourdough.

Breakfast:  2 slices of sourdough with generous butter, 1 package buddig ham, coffee

Standard.  Ate later than usual due to a blood draw and other delays.

Lunch:  Omelet with bacon/ham/sausage, 2 slices sourdough with (probably) margarine, coffee

These screwed up pictures are making me sad.
Second time I've been to this place.  Reasonably happy with it, though I should ask what they put on the toast.  If I just drank water instead of coffee the cost (with tip) would be about the same as Qdoba.

Dinner:  Can of V-8, 1 slice sourdough with generous butter

Managed to fight off the urge to get a fast food/pizza/other unhealthy megadinner.  So far anyway.  Hoping I can call it an early night.

Exercise:  Nope.  Sleep schedule worse not better.  At least I know I'll get a workout in tomorrow.

I Wonder What Normal People Are Like

Tuesday, January 30, 2018

Seriously.  It must be nice to eat a modest amount of food and think 'okay, that's enough, I'll be full in a few minutes'.  Fat people don't think that way.

Edit:  Speaking of weird thinking, I am contemplating the possibility that I'm not eating enough fat.  I mean you would think so between the butter, brisket and guac, but maybe not.  Maybe this is just a weak justification for "dinner".

Breakfast:  2 slices sourdough with generous butter, 1 package buddig beef, coffee

Adequate as usual though it doesn't stick exceptionally well which suggests this may not be a long term solution for breakfast.

Lunch:  Qdoba brisket bowl, McDonalds Mac Jr

Not pictured:  Mac Jr
I was hungry after working out.  I ate the bowl.  I worried about whether I ate enough to get through -- it wasn't the biggest bowl I've ever had.  So I got a burger too.  Which is dumb, that's 460 calories I would have been just fine not consuming.  Seriously, normal people would never even consider driving through McDonalds on the way back to work.  And while I am hungry this evening, it's not so bad.

Dinner:  Can of V-8, small heel of the sourdough loaf with butter

Just fitting in some extra fat.  LOL fat people.

Exercise:  45 minutes of assorted arms, core, energy you name it.  Worked hard despite struggling pretty bad.

There Are Many Words That Start WIth M Including Madcap

Monday, January 29, 2018

I would say that I was somewhat less than thrilled to see it be Monday again already.  Oh well, it happened.

Breakfast:  2 slices sourdough with generous butter, 1 package buddig ham, coffee

I bought a different kind of sourdough this time, a more traditional loaf instead of a boule shape.  That's about the extent of it, otherwise it's the same stuff.

Lunch:  3 ground beef tacos, mexican style plus cheese with avocado and hot sauce

No, I have no idea why the avocado slices were served like that.
I didn't eat lunch until after 4:00.  Busy day.  I was reasonably hungry but this did the trick.

Dinner:  Can of V-8

Exercise:  Nope.  May have to contemplate evenings as unpleasant as that sounds.

Scheduling Issue

Sunday, January 28, 2018

More words about sleep.  I actually feel like I slept relatively well last night.  Unfortunately I did not get to sleep early.  I really am going to have to ban electronics use, use something other than my phone for an alarm, etc.  Fact of the matter is I just wasn't sleepy.  When the alarm went off this morning I just switched it off (intentionally) and got up when I was ready ... at 9:30.  Yeah, this is not a good thing.

Feeling pretty decent otherwise.  I always forget how much of a difference it can make in how I feel to just lose a few pounds.  And to cut out most sugar.  Fewer aches and pains already.

Breakfast:  4 slices Wright applewood thick cut bacon, 1 slice sourdugh with ample butter, coffee

Bacon done to perfection, 17 minutes at 375.
I'm pretty fond of this breakfast and if I got up early enough during the week it wouldn't be any big deal to have it.  The sandwich version is a reflection of my perpetual AM tardiness more than anything else.  I think I'm going to divide up the remaining bacon, put it on parchment and freeze it ... we'll see how much I have to adjust the cooking time as a result.

Lunch:  Leftover antipasto pizza

You know, I just don't love banana peppers.
Debated ways to eat less since I will have to have dinner tonight (guest on Sundays, no choice).  Didn't apply any of them.  Guess I had better get a little exercise, huh?

Dinner:  Meatloaf, Idahoan four cheese potatoes, green beans

Spy photo
I wasn't hungry but I was polite.  I even had a bit more than this, it was good.  Kept it in check though.

Exercise:  Nope and that's too bad.  I certainly could have fit some in.

The Elusive Quality

Saturday, January 27, 2018

Very much looking forward to a day where I get quality sleep again.  That's a long way in the future, after much weight loss and exercise, but it'll be wonderful when it happens.  It's like the holy grail.

I almost got up after getting hit with the leg cramp at 4:30 but didn't quite manage it.  We're early enough in the process that I'm not going to worry about it.  Still, a little walking probably would have been a better choice than the couple of hours of fitful sleep that followed before I just gave up.

Breakfast:  4 strips Wright thick applewood bacon, 1 slice sourdough with extra generous butter, coffee

I still have no idea why the photos
have gone haywire.
Since it's the weekend I changed up the meat, i.e. I had time to do some bacon (and a package that is about at the expiration date).  More calories there but OK.  In general I'd like to eat more fat (and less starch) for rib-sticking purposes.  Also went super heavy on the butter - generious has been about 1 T, this was 1.5 T plus.  It was ... buttery.  Very buttery.  Again, more fat.

Lunch:  Antipasto pizza

May just have to give up on rotation
This is a 16" pizza.  I ate half, 4 slices, which is quite a bit.  Given that it was after 3:00 I'm not worried about it sticking even though it's very high carb.  Leftovers tomorrow.

Dinner:  Can of V-8

Pizza stuck really well.  Not hungry at all.

Exercise:  Got in a nice walk today.  Originally was just going to be about 8 blocks out and back to get some eggs, but I added six or so blocks detouring to the library.  Didn't chart the distance, with the two quick stops it was about a half hour.

A Limp And A Cramp

Friday, January 26, 2018

Limped through the end of the work week.  It wasn't a very productive day and I'm looking forward to a little time to recharge.

Breakfast:  2 slices sourdough, generous butter, 1 package buddig corned beef, coffee

The corned beef was ok.  I can do better in the lunch meat department, but I'm going to call this week a win because I ate the planned breakfast four days in a row without resorting to a drive thru.

Lunch:  Qdoba brisket bowl.

It's a bowl!
Usual fixings except the burrito artist misheard me and put a scoop of corn salsa on there.  That's something I'd never ask for - even though I eat lots of corn products the look of corn salsa is unappealing.  But it didn't matter, there were enough other and dominant flavors.

Dinner:  Can of V-8, also pint of Vandermill bluegold hard cider

Bah.  I should have read the label on the cider.  280 calories and added sugar.  Oh well.  I have two more of them too.  Oh and the label also informed me that it contains sulfites and sure enough I woke up at 4:30 with a leg cramp.  Stupid sulfites.

Exercise:  40+ minutes, lots of shoulder and arm plus core.   Went pretty hard (I mean for me).  A solid workout.

Now With More Lunch Fail

Thursday, January 25, 2018

I had a hard time making up my mind as to what I wanted for lunch today.  As you will see.

Breakfast:  2 slices sourdough with generous butter, 1 package buddig turkey, coffee

I didn't like the turkey as much as the ham or the beef.

Lunch:  Chicken fajita salad with guac (no shell or dressing), chips and salsa, Arby's double roast beef minus bun

Salad
Tried out a mexican place I've never visited.  I forgot to ask for no shell, my bad.  I ate too many chips.  And I decided there wasn't enough chicken so I stopped through an Arby's on the way back to work.  I was pretty full then but as expected it could have stuck better.

Breakfast > Mexican.

Dinner:  Can of V-8

Exercise:  Nope, not yet.

Not Recently Precedented

Wednesday, January 24, 2018

Not quite in the books yet but I think it's going to be two solid days on plan.  Yes.  Definitely feel a little off today but it's hard to describe.  And it's not all bad, I do move better when I don't have a full belly.

Breakfast:  2 slices sourdough with generous butter, 1 package buddig ham, coffee

I have no idea what's up lately with pictures being rotated.
It's annoying.
Not a real pretty picture.

Lunch:  3 egg omelet with bacon, ham, sausage, cheese.  2 slices sourdough with (probably) margarine, coffee

It was nice to have time for a sit down lunch.
Searching for a new breakfast for lunch place.  Food was pretty good, will probably go again.

Dinner:  Can of V-8 juice.

Big can, it's like 11 oz or something.

Exercise:  Nope.  Let's give it a week to see if I start feeling better in the mornings.

Target Tuesday

Tuesday, January 23, 2018

Well how about that.  For the past few days I've been targeting today as a "start".  A day where I would not give in to excuses, temptation, whatever and just follow a preplanned idea for one whole day.  And it happened.  So many times I false start or don't even try enough to false start.  So I'm happy about a single day.

Even if it isn't perfectly clean or great or whatever.  It's better than the usual binge eating.

Breakfast:  2 slices sourdough with generous butter, 1 package buddig ham, coffee

Good quality local bread, butter and the cheapest most processed lunch meat you can buy.  I know.  I'll explain later.

Lunch:  Qdoba brisket bowl.  Light on the cheese, no chips on the side.

White rice, pinto beans, brisket, fajita veg, hot queso,
hot salsa, pico, light cheese, sour cream, guac.
Lunch whenever possible is going to be the main meal of the day.  This fit the bill.

Dinner:  Can of V-8 juice

And that's the thing I'm happiest about, no heavy dinner.  Maybe some days I'll need to eat, tonight I did not.

Exercise:  40 minutes of mostly arms and shoulders.  Worked hard.

Overly Biscuity

Sunday, January 7, 2018

Slept better last night and happy about that.  Downside is that it was hard to get to sleep because I stayed up watching the football game and I ended up shutting off the alarm and sleeping in.  I do not enjoy the struggle of trying to reset the sleep schedule.

Breakfast:  Leftover tuna biscuit bake, coffee

ino idea what is up with the rotation
Too much.  One square would have been sufficient.  That's what I get for trying to eat 4 meals worth of this in 3 so that I don't have to throw it out.  Also, for next time:  Reduce pan size to the 8x8 or maybe the 9x9.  Cut the biscuit almost in half, keep the filling level the same.

Much Like The Old

Saturday, January 6, 2018

The new year hasn't exactly gotten off to a rousing beginning.  Just more of the same, work, stress, poor sleep and atrocious eating.  I don't think I ate a single "home cooked" meal all week.  Feeling sluggish to the extreme this morning as a product of awful sleep.  I just could not get comfortable last night and had enough congestion that oxygen was in short supply.  I expect to be dragging all day.

On the positive side, I had a good workout yesterday and didn't have the usual muscular fatigue that I've noticed over the last quite a while, where every movement is a challenge.  Very happy about that.  I have some private theories as to cause, but if I can get past it that's a very good thing no matter what.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Lunch:  Hot Tuna Biscuit sandwich

Hey, a home cooked meal!  Not a particularly healthy one, but at least I made it.  Something my mom made when I was a kid, the recipe calls for Bisquick but I made Kenji's 2 ingredient biscuits for the crust instead and it turned out great.  Lots of leftovers too, maybe next time I'll remember to take a photo.

Dinner:  Antipasto pizza, root beer

Downside to the early and carb-heavy lunch is I got hungry.  So early dinner it is.  Ate way too much.  Again.

Snack:  Triscuits with Yoder's jalapeno cheddar dip

Was pleasantly surprised by the dip, but then I left it out overnight and the rest is in the trash.  Oops.

Exercise:  Nope.

Not a successful day but a reasonably relaxing one.

Update:

Not sure I can recreate the whole week's worth of crappy eating, but I could try.

Friday, January 5:
B:  Coffee, Taco Bell steak crunch wrap
L:  Qdoba brisket bowl with chips
D:  McDonalds classic chicken, bacon McDouble, cheeseburgers, 2 pies
Exercisse:  40 minutes arms and core

Thursday, January 4:
B:  McD bacon egg and cheese biscuit, sausage burrito
L:  Wendy's double w cheese, fries, lemonade
D:  Dominos pan pepperoni bacon pizza, root beer

Wednesday, January 3:
B:  Coffee
L:  Jimmy Johns ultimate porker, salt & vinegar chips, root beer
D:  Culvers single bacon deluxe, SW chicken sandwich, fries, root beer

Tuesday, January 2:
B:  Coffee
L:  Wendy's single w cheese, fries, lemonade, chicken nuggets
D:  McDonalds classic chicken, cheeseburgers, small fries

Somewhere in there I had some taco bell snacks too, a couple stackers, a chicken burrito and an orange cream freeze

What a miserable week of eating!

It's A New Year After All

Monday, January 1, 2018

I guess it's unavoidable.  The new year is upon us.  Looks like the locals for the most part stayed up since there was nobody out there at 8:00 this morning.  Quiet like you only see on holiday mornings and even then it's usually 6:00 when it's that quiet.  It took some of the grating edge off being so late to get going.

Closing the books on last year, I didn't lose any weight.  Actually gained a nominal amount.  Boo.

Breakfast:  Marble cornbread scramble with pico de gallo, diced potatoes, coffee

I had the most smiley waitress ever this morning.  It was impressive.

Lunch:  TB chicken burrito, stacker

Dinner:  Ham, scalloped potatoes, corn, rolls with butter, cookie and ice cream

Exercise:  Not really, though I did walk a few blocks for breakfast and back.

Unopimistic

Sunday, December 31, 2017

Well, another year is about to bite the dust.  I don't think I'm going to accomplish any major 2017 goals in the next 12 hours, so it's safe to say that it's been a bust.  I haven't stepped on the scale in a while, but I know I haven't made any progress.  Doing better in the strength department but cardio condition has dropped off due to lack of walking.  No other major life improvements I can point to, either.  Work stress is way up, quality and quantity of sleep is down.  This cannot continue.

I've never been a big believer in new year resolutions, but I do have an interest in setting some goals for 2018.

1.  Fix the sleep.  Perhaps surprisingly, the first goal isn't food related.  I need to get more, better and consistent sleep.  I had hopes of getting up early today, instead I dragged myself out of bed at 8:00.  Pathetic.  And still not rested.

2.  Dump the fast food.   It's too easy to just eat out every meal.  I don't mind the sit down stuff, at least when I make good choices -- it's too bad the breakfast for lunch and taco salad spots are long gone -- but it's too easy to get 1500 calories of drive thru.

3.  Get back to walking.  I have a million excuses, but they're just that.  Excuses.  Get out there are do it, dummy.  You felt great when doing three miles a day.

4.  Be honest with myself.  And that means being more critical when I fail.

And that's it.  Sure I want to lose a bunch of weight.  If I do those other things, it will come.

Sun's Up Fun Up

Sunday, December 10, 2017

A pretty decent start to the day thus far.  Got up reasonably early, walked over to the laundry to get a load done, fixed a lovely breakfast and just now thinking about a second cup of coffee.  Not sure how much I will get accomplished today.  There are a million things on the list, but relaxation is needed too.  We'll see.

Breakfast:  Oatcakes w maple syrup, some CF applewood bacon, orange juice, coffee

Lunch:  Meijer True Goodness tomato basil soup, cheese toast, a few Pringles

Misc:  Lemonade

Dinner:  Roast beef, potatoes, carrots, 12 oz Miller Lite

Exercise:  Nope.

Post-Plague

Saturday, December 9, 2017

Ahh.  A relaxing Saturday.  Needed it, after being sick for nearly two weeks.  It's wonderful to finally feel mostly like myself again.

I hit the grocery store yesterday and ended up with a bunch of crap, which I'll probably work through over the next few days.  I'm hoping to get more on track here over the next couple weeks (yes, over the holidays) and hit it pretty hard in 2018.

Breakfast:  Pillsbury cinnamon rolls, glass of whole milk

Lunch:  3 slices of leftover deluxe pizza

Snack:  Outshine fruit bars, lime (3)

Dinner:  CF pot roast, mashed potatoes, carrots, 16 oz Vandermill blue gold cider

Exercise:  Nope.  Soon though!
