Leap day.  Can't say that it means anything to me, but there you go.  The last day of February.

Much better night last night.  Asleep about 10, woke up briefly at midnight with a very minor cramp and then slept through until 5:00 without further incident.  Elected to go back to sleep and did.  I still do not know what the issue is -- I mean, I know I get the cramps when I walk a ton, but this outbreak was clearly related to some sort of dietary deficiency, one which I must overcome when eating the standard diet by just brute forcing tons of food.  Also enjoyed a very small dip on the scale.

Anyway, hooray for a decent night and tomorrow is Friday.

Breakfast:  CF sausage, coffee


Again.

Lunch:  Jimmy Johns east coast italian minus mayo minus V&O, plus mustard and pickle, salt and vinegar chips, diet lemonade


Meh.  Work-related.  Cut some of the seed oils from the sandwich but then had chips.  

Dinner:  Barbacoa, mashed potatoes, guac, jalapenos, 12 oz Miller Lite, plain greek yogurt


Again.

Exercise:  Nope.  Another early work commitment had me concerned.  Time to stop the excuses.

Day totals:  About $116.00 spent (trip to the farm), over on carbs, no exercise, standard fail.

I stocked up with a couple dozen eggs, four packages of sausage, the same of bacon, one each of chorizo and canadian bacon and a pound of ground beef.  For whatever reason they were super low on beef cuts but no big deal since I already had some of those in the freezer.  It was the first visit in a while where they had lots of bacon.

Apparently Way Off

Well then.  I had another medical appointment today.  As usual they took vitals, and for the second time this month my blood pressure came back acceptable.  It was much, much lower than I got on my home device.  Any reading I've had.  Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled, but at the same time I'm a bit irked that my home measurements are apparently way, way, way off.  At least the scale is accurate, give or take seven pounds of clothing and coffee.

At least the BP variance is in the right direction.

Now, let's see if I can get moving.  I have so many things to do, so many goals I would like to achieve, and I just have not had any zip to work on them.  It may be a matter of will at this point -- if I get going, maybe I'll improve my stamina enough to keep going.  And going.

You know one thing that would help?  QUALITY SLEEP.  Good lord was last night awful.  Got up over and over with cramps.  Very, very unpleasant and it really cut into the amount of rest I got.  That is a big problem and I may need to try supplementing -- intuitively, I don't like the idea of supps, I mean they were never a thing until the last 30 years, but I also don't like cramps.  At all.

Lunch:  McD 2x McDouble minus ketchup

What a fail.  I decided to grab some beef because I was hungry an hour and a half before lunch would happen.  Failed to get them completely plain, and then MEGA failed on the eating -- I took a wrong turn that spat me out on the road and directly to the highway.  The weather was awful so I didn't want to mess around so I just ate them.  I'm not irked about the mustard, pickle and onion, I am about the buns.  Completely unnecessary, except for the poor planning.

Dinner:  Barbacoa, jalapeno, mashed potatoes, guacamole.  12 oz All Day IPA.  Plain greek yogurt with a couple wild blueberries


Was quite hungry by the time I finally got home.  This week's batch of barb is fine - very tasty - but ever so slightly not as good.  Batch 2 was better -- delmonico > standard chuck steaks and oven braised > crock pot.  But still very acceptable and I have three more of the 1C containers, plus the same of mash.  A very satisfactory dinner.  Almost no blueberries left so I cleaned 'em up.

Exercise:  Nope.  Not an active day, it was HORRIBLE out there.

Shifted Time and Effort

I had high hopes for today, but they are going unrealized.  Got up early, got myself to a planned location and it didn't take long - less than an hour - to figure out that I wasn't going to get the return on the investment of my time that I was hoping for.  So instead I'll have to work more later.  Sigh.  I'm already tired of this.

Anyway, a small jump on the scale, but nothing concerning.  Another dietary blip today, but with the change in plans it will be less than feared.

Breakfast:  2x Egg McMuffin, coffee, later a donut

No photo.  It was still dark and the food was consumed while driving.

Lunch:  Soup, sliced cheddar

Also no photo.  Was looking at my phone just after I finished and immediately realized that I had forgotten.  Fortunately it was the same meal I've had 1000 times before.  Really good batch too.

Dinner:  Leftover sourdough biscuits and chorizo gravy, scrambled eggs, 12 oz Miller Lite, donuts


Cleanup.  Very tasty.  Bad for me, though, especially the leftover donuts.

Exercise:  Not as much as planned, just some relatively minor walking.

Not So So Bad

Whew, not ready for it to be Monday, but it is.  Slept acceptably, while I woke up a time or two they were not get up wake ups, so not a big deal.  Woke up a little before my alarm and got going.  Made it to work almost an hour early, necessary due to not getting enough done yesterday.  All good.

Not unhappy either with the small jump on the scale, given that yesterday was not great.  I'm not expecting great things from today or tomorrow on the eating front, but the rest of the week should be okay.

Breakfast:  CF Sausage, coffee


Again.

Lunch:   Spicy beans w mexicheese, sourdough biscuit


Changeup.  I was going to have these this weekend, but never got to them.  So they needed to be cleaned up.

Dinner:   2x mexican, 2x american tacos, 12 oz Miller Lite

Exercise:  Nope.  Super early work day.  But at least I got up at almost the ideal time, so maybe I can get on a schedule?

Endless Discomforts

Well now, that is all sorts of messed up.  Just at the annoying level, not life changing or anything, but it was a ridiculous night.  I went to bed by 8:00 pm - no surprise given that I'd been up since 2:00 am - and fell asleep promptly.  Woke for the first time a little after 10:30 with a bit of knee pain and a need to hit the restroom.  I actually felt quite good - surprisingly rested - and it was a good hour before I went back to sleep.    Woke up a second time about 2:30 with other aches and pains which I have forgotten.  Hit the bathroom and was able to get back to sleep.  Awakened at 4:30 or so with a vicious right ankle and foot cramp.  Ouch.  Worked it out, back to sleep in the recliner.  8:00 I'm bolted awake in the middle of a dream with a major left foot cramp - of the foot-curling variety.  Yow.  Painful.  And it was, oddly enough, part of my dream - I was trying to stop a slowly moving car from passenger side but was failing due to a foot cramp.

Oof.  So it was a long night.  Did not get moving here until after 8:30.  I was hoping that a ten hour window might be enough but it was not.  If not for the foot cramp I probably would have slept a while longer.  But, on balance, I feel halfway decent.  Feels like the sinus issue is mostly out of there, though it has settled in the throat a bit.  Not bad tho.

Entirely possible that my mood would be a lot less positive, though, if not for the unexpected drop on the scale.  I was anticipating a gain, though I did move some waste this morning.  But instead it was significantly lower.  I don't think that gives me a pass to eat the Maiz chips or ice cream on a regular basis or anything, but it was nice to survive.  Some other questionable things on tap today - Sundays, man - but hoping to keep it reasonable. 

Breakfast:  Bacon, greek yogurt w wild blueberries, coffee



Finished off the bacon.  Those servings were excessively large.

A little later, I had to do a little QC of something new, I made sourdough biscuits.  Verdict:  An excellent butter delivery vehicle, but could definitely be improved.  I think my starter is still a little weak.  Good flavor tho.


We'll see how they do in the freezer.

Lunch:  Scrambled eggs, home sourdough biscuits with chorizo gravy


Delicious.  Let's see, 2 biscuits, 3 eggs, 4 oz of chorizo, a little flour, a little butter, a third plus cup of milk, mexicheese, jalapenos, I think that's everything.  A lot of food but very satisfying.

Dinner:  Busy day casserole, cheesy green beans, bisquick biscuit, NSA peaches, 12 oz Miller Lite, girl scout pb patty cookies, HD vanilla ice cream

As I feared, I jinxed it.  First blip up today.  Not super concerned about it, since there are a few different factors at play, but still annoying.

A weird start to the day.  I was pretty miserable when I went to bed last night, the sinuses have been driving me crazy for days and I just could not stop the running of the nose.  But despite that I did not sleep horribly and when I woke up -- at 2:00, standard five hours in but I went to bed earlier -- I was not sleepy.  I waited an hour and a half before seeing if I could brute force some more sleep, no luck.  So I gave up and got up.  Somewhat better with the sinuses but still not quite normal.  I may need to buy some benadryl later.

Anyway, much to do so I had better get started.

Update:  And there was much fail.  Not a huge surprise.  Will be up again tomorrow.

Breakfast:  Bacon, greek yogurt with a few wild blueberries, coffee



In stages.

Lunch:  Keto bowl, ground beef, with hot sauce.  Later, Maiz avo oil tortilla chips and Herdez salsa


Despite being satisfactorily full the signal to not want to eat was broken.  Doh.  First serious failure of the week.

Dinner:  A little Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream

Since I ate too many chips with salsa mid-afternoon (and also because I NEED to go to bed early, long long day), I didn't really need dinner.  I ate the rest of the ice cream I bought last week or the week before.  Another thing cleaned up.

Exercise:   Nope.  No excuse.

Steady Droppin

TGIF.  Glad to see another drop on the scale this morning.  I cannot expect that to continue, at least not in any meaningful, consistent fashion.  Future drops will be smaller, more irregular.  But I will continue to enjoy them whenever they happen.

A busy morning, should not be too awful this afternoon - famous last words I know - and then a very busy weekend on tap.  I have so much to do it is CRAZY.

Breakfast:  CF bacon, coffee


A little larger serving of bacon - I got a 2lb pack (precooked weight ldo) of irregular slices from the farm at a nice discount, so there is a lot of bacon to be had.  I'll easily get five or six huge servings out of it.  I don't care if the slices are weird, they taste great.

Lunch:  Soup, sliced cheddar


Standard.  I like the soup better with julienned carrots instead of the sliced chunks but I eat what I thaw.

Snack:  Jack Links original beef stick, Starry Zero Sugar

The beef stick was fine, seemed to be one of the cleaner jerky options.  

Dinner:  Omelet with bacon, cream cheese and guac, 12 oz All Day IPA, popcorn



Chopped up a little bacon for the omelet, was thinking about what else I might do to bump today's protein a bit and came up blank.  Thought of yogurt too late.  Popcorn is the usual home version, popped in coconut oil with melted butter.

Exercise:  Nope.  Another early to work day and a messed up night of split sleep.  I am feeling a little better physically - did more work-related walking than usual today and it was fine.  Still a slight limp, but not much unless I've been sitting for a while.

Day totals:  About $50.00 at the grocery store plus $5.68 at the gas station for the snack spent, loose ok on carbs, success.

There's That Slowdown

Okay then.  I think the big flush is done, though there was still a very decent drop this morning that was almost certainly water, it just wasn't many pounds of water.  In three days I have reversed all of the February gains.  Onward, now, to the range where I was in mid-January.  Not that many pounds away.  

Struggling with fatigue.  The irregular sleep pattern doesn't help, I'm sure, but I do not think that adequately explains it.  Went to bed early, was asleep probably by 9:30, woke up at 3:00, dozed back off about 4:30.  Up at 7:00.  The last couple hours featured a lot of dreaming but not deep sleep.

Breakfast:  CF sausage patties, coffee


Yeah, again.

Lunch:  Soup, sliced cheddar

And again.  And good grief, I forgot to take a photo despite my camera laying right there.

Dinner:  Barbacoa, mashed potatoes, guac, 12 oz All Day IPA, CF hickory bacon


Again?  Again.  And I am sad that I have exhausted that batch of barbacoa, because it was effing delicious.  That's a great, great dinner and it took about 5 minutes to heat up on the stovetop.  I don't love the carbs in mash but I do love the mash and when you add that and the guac it is so delightful.  Out of yogurt so I nabbed a few strips of bacon from the package I cooked up so that there is breakfast tomorrow.

Exercise:  Nope.  Disappointing.  I did make it to work early though which was good.  I have another early work thing again tomorrow, so it may be the weekend before I reboot the workout.

The water flush is just ridiculous.  I mean seriously.  How bloated do you have to be to dump double digits in two days of not-even-that-strict lower carbing?

This is not a complaint. No no no no.  

It did mean again getting up multiple times in the night.  I expect that to start subsiding (edit:  definitely slowing this evening), though I did still get rid of some additional water this morning, some of that was coffee.  Much of what I put on this month has already disappeared, hoping to quickly get back to the range where I stalled out last month before I fell off.

Breakfast:  CF sausage patties, coffee

Lunch:  Soup, sliced cheddar

Ditto.  I somehow forgot to take a photo.  Oops.  Slightly larger serving of soup due to a different container, otherwise identical to the last two days.

Dinner:  Barbacoa, mashed potatoes, guac, 12 oz All Day IPA, True Goodness plain greek yogurt, pickle


Unlike yesterday, this was from my second crack at barbacoa and it, frankly, was much better.  More heat.  I think I added more chipotle.  Really delicious.  And I have one more for tomorrow night.  The little cup of guac was a good addition.  Also noted: This yogurt has more tang than the regular Meijer brand.

Exercise:  Nope.  Was a possibility this morning but had an early work thing so I didn't.

If the question was "will 1C of mashed potatoes, 35g carbs according to the internet, on day 1 of a reset prevent mass outflow of water?", the answer is a resounding:

LOL NO.

Good grief.  It didn't really kick in until overnight but I had to get up multiple times.  Don't get me wrong, I'm happy about it, but it did make for a lot of interruption.  Many pounds of liquid departed.

Also notable that even after just one day I feel a bit better.  Not a huge difference but still, notable.

I was also very pleasantly sated by dinner last night, it just took a long while to kick in.  Good thing I didn't have anything snackable handy or I would have kept eating.   The urge to eat remains insanely strong, I just have to be tough enough to outlast it.

Breakfast:  CF sausage patties, coffee

Again.  Happily the coffee didn't dry me out today.

Lunch:  Soup, sliced cheddar

Again.

Dinner:  Leftover CF ribeye steak, mashed potatoes, 12 oz All Day IPA, plain True Goodness greek yogurt

Cooked the steak last night and sliced it.  Seems sad to "waste" a ribeye on a reheat, but it's what I had on hand and it still tasted great.

I chuckled a bit this morning when I weighed in.  I ate about 10,000 calories yesterday.  It was awful.  I felt awful.  I slept horrendously.  And somehow, some way, I was actually down a bit.

LOL.

Anyway, we are back at it.  I am hoping to dump some water.  I disposed of some yesterday, but that was ongoing consumption, not storage.  We'll see if and when it kicks in.

As mentioned I slept horribly.  Woke up just before 2:00.  Got back to sleep about 4:45, in bed, and was still sound asleep when the alarm went off at 7:00.  No chance I was getting up right away.  It's such a struggle right now.  I was very glad today was a quasi-holiday, though of course it wasn't a day off.

Breakfast:  CF sausage patties, coffee


I may have to do something about the coffee, it dries out my sinuses.

Lunch:  Soup, sliced Sargento sharp cheddar


Standard.

Dinner:   Barbacoa, mashed potatoes, avocado, 12 oz Miller Lite, 1 slice sharp cheddar


Quick and easy dinner, reheat and eat.  This was the last, I think, of the first batch of barbacoa which was less spicy.   The 1 cup containers are super convenient.

Exercise:  Nope.  I felt horrendous this morning.  On the plus side, other than swelling my knee/leg/foot is slowly improving.  And I will say that I have felt somewhat decent the latter part of the day.  So there is hope.

Sigh.  Getting old is the worst.  Something new every day lately.

So yesterday I was doing not very much when I decided to try on a pair of new shoes that arrived this week.  I found it surprisingly difficult to get the right shoe on, and upon examination I noted that my right foot was very, very swollen.  This is a new thing, I do not recall it ever happening before.

Since I haven't figured out a particularly effective way to keep it elevated, it's still puffy today.  And it's not helping things as I limp about.  At least I seem to be past the worst of the knee issue.  For now.

Breakfast:  Lazy bagels w Meijer veggie cream cheese, coffee


Tasty, but not at all good in terms of satiety.  

Lunch:   Soup with a scoop of mashed potatoes


Made some mash for the freezer, had just a bit left over.

Snack:  Everything pretzel crisps, homemade brownie w HD vanilla ice cream

Dinner:   American goulash, salad no dressing, garlic toast, 12 oz Miller Lite, birthday cake and ice cream


Party food.  The cake was insanely rich.

Exercise:  Nope.  Moderately active, but nothing specific.

The good news:  I think I got eight hours of legit sleep!

The bad news:  It took eleven plus hours to get it.  Sigh.  Went to bed early.  In bed before 8:30, asleep before 9:00.  That just meant I woke up an hour earlier, at 2:00 instead of 3:00.  Was up for a couple hours, then dozed off in the recliner for several hours.  Not the greatest sleep, but okay.  Lots of dreams.

I don't know if I'll ever be free of the aches and pains and other issues that prevent me from getting eight hours of deep restful sleep in bed, but whatever.  I do feel better, even if I was very much not ready to get up this morning.

Breakfast:  2x egg mcmuffin, coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Soup


Again.

Dinner:  Maiz tortilla chips, Meijer hatch chile salsa, 12 oz All Day IPA, cheese toast

I really like the Maiz chips, too bad they're not good for me.  They were even on sale.

Exercise:  Not really.  Did a fair amount of snow shoveling, but not counting it.  Was good to be a little active at least.

Sigh.  I need to snap out of this rut.

I did not get to bed quite as early as I was hoping, but still not too late.  Woke up, as usual, early this time just before 5:00.  Didn't get back to deep, restful sleep, but dozed off enough to make getting up unpleasant.

Eating poorly again, need to fix that tomorrow.  At least I now have a plan to do that.

Breakfast:  Bagel breakfast sandwich w egg, sausage, cream cheese.  Coffee.  Paczki.

It being Fat Tuesday isn't helping.

Lunch:  Italian beef, fries.

I put the Fat in Fat Tuesday.

Dinner:  Cheese toast, 12 oz All Day IPA, a few Maiz chips w salsa, SF vanilla pudding


Quite a menu.

Exercise:  Nope.  Sometimes it's not awful, other times it's still very painful.

I did not need the Super Bowl to go to overtime.  Did not get to sleep until late and felt rough this morning.  It was not pleasant.

Yeah, one thing I did not get around to was cooking up some sausage yesterday.  Or today.  Oops.

Lunch:  Leftover chili and cornmeal biscuits, a few Maiz tortilla chips

All good.

Exercise:  Nope.  There are times when I feel almost (almost) normal, but then there are times where it's back to real pain.  Still have some optimism.

Getting old is the pits.  Another night of waking up in the middle, not being able to get back to sleep and doomscrolling until finally dozing off in the recliner hours later.  It was so long this time that I had coffee and breakfast before I went back to sleep.  And I didn't get up until after 10:00.  Yikes.

Anyway, busy day planned, though not much will be accomplished.  A little cooking prep for the Superb Owl, plus all the stuff I didn't do yesterday like laundry.  

Not so exciting.

Breakfast:  Cheese toast, coffee

Had a couple slices of bread to clean up so I did.  Not a standard 6:00 breakfast but tasty.

Lunch:  McD 2x Big Mac, 2x McChick

Okay, done with the fast food for a while.   Tasty though.

I also had to do quality control testing on tonight's cheddar cornmeal biscuits and brownies.

Dinner:  Chili, cheddar cornmeal biscuits, 12 oz All Day IPA, applesauce, salad no dressing, brownie w haagen dazs vanilla ice cream


All very tasty.

Exercise:  Nope.  Still gimpy.  Though it does seem like there is some improvement.

I'm still limping around, but I'll live.  It would be unfortunate if this is a new reality, but we'll see.  One thing I am pretty sure of is that losing some weight would be helpful, take some pressure off.

Taking it easy today, though I have a million things to do.

Breakfast:  Cheese toast, coffee

Dunno why, it just sounded good, I had the bread and it was easier than anything else.  Cleaned up a cheese.

Lunch:  Jersey Mikes #56

Free sandwich.  Also just sounded good.  And easy.

Tomorrow is going to be bad on the scale because JM#56 is the new all time champ for making me drink tons of water.

Tasty.  And of course so very bad for me.

Exercise:  Nope.  I did walk around a bit, but I really can't count it.

Yeah, it's been a week.  

Drank a lot of water last night for whatever reason and the scale showed it this morning.  I am going to need to get back on track.  Just did not happen today.

Breakfast:   Panera 2x asiago bagels w cream cheese, coffee

Yuh.

Lunch:  McD 2x Big Mac 2x McChix

Uh.

Dinner:  Ranch mix, garlic mexicheese toast


/shrug.  Bought too much crap at the store tonight.

Exercise:  No, ldo.  Still limping.

Well, no, things were not fixed.  Another day of failure.  And yet it wasn't all bad.

I made myself get my knee checked out and I'm glad I did.  The doc didn't think there was any structural damage, just inflammation, probably arthritis.  Got some direction as to what to do, and already seeing a little improvement.  Big relief.

Breakfast:  2x Egg McMuffin

A late breakfast after waiting around for a looong time for a blood draw (unrelated to the knee).

Lunch:  Keto bowl w ground beef.  Later, CFA spicy chx and frosted lemonade


I do like a good keto bowl.

Dinner:  Jersey Mikes #56.

Very tasty.

Exercise:  Obv not.

Day totals, Spent a bunch, way over on carbs, fail.  Planning to get straight this weekend.

Yeesh.  I've been super tied up with a massive work project, but it ended late this aftenoon.  On to the next one.  I'm kinda tired of being this busy and it's just going to get worse.

Still having a rough time with the knee, though there have been a couple of brief windows where it is clearly improving a little.  It's still not right, not close, but if it continues to improve maybe I can avoid surgery or other medical intervention.  

Forgot to take any photos today, that's how focused I have been.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Again.  No problem.

Lunch:  Jimmy Johns #9, minus VO, minus mayo, add mustard, pickles, peppers.  Salt and vinegar chips, diet lemonade

Not bad, just bad for me.  Stuck at work, grinding.

Dinner:  Pizza Hut thin pep pork beef, breadsticks w sauce, 12 oz Miller Lite

Surprisingly decent.  I had very low expectations.  Another choice made due to drive through.  I'm going to go thaw stuff for tomorrow right now so I can get back on track.

Exercise:  Nope, still very injured.

Arrgh.  I really need to pay more attention when I grocery shop.  I looked at the ingredients on the giardiniera and bleah, right there, major ingredient soybean oil.  FAIL.

Not much else happening.  Still limping.  Not sure if it's going to get better.

Again.

Lunch:  Not quite italian beef sandwiches

Last go-round.  Subbed a slice of mozz, otherwise same as the last two days.   I'm annoyed about the giardiniera as I have appreciated that it has some zip.  

Dinner:  2x Big Mac, 2x McChick, 12 oz Miller Lite, SF vanilla pudding

Sigh.  Nothing thawed, went drive thru due to hurting.

Exercise:  Nope.  Again, no chance.  Hurting.

Never Taken For Granted

I don't feel like I ever take my health for granted.  I'm limping badly again today as I'm still having trouble with my right knee and leg.  I have some small hope that it's muscular and that with rest it will resolve, but I am mentally preparing for the possibility that it is ... not that.  It does seem a bit less swollen.

Anyway, nothing else of note.  Was predictably up after bad eating yesterday.  I probably didn't need to start weekday 2MAD today, but I wasn't hungry this morning so it worked.  Was ready for lunch a bit early but it was no trouble to wait until the usual 12:30.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Not exactly italian beef sandwiches


Same as yesterday and I'll repeat once more tomorrow, at which point I will have used up the beef, buns and cheese.

Dinner:  2x mexican 2x american tacos, 12 oz Miller Lite, Meijer pork rinds


Tasty as usual.

Exercise:  Nope.  No chance.  Limping.
