Curiouser

Thursday, March 19, 2020

Strange days.  Have I said that?  If so I mean it with extra authority this time.  Just bizarre.

Woke up at 4:30 this morning and instantly knew I wasn't going to get back to sleep.  So I hit the grocery store at 6 -- it was busy but they had a dozen or so packages of toilet paper.  Got some blood drawn -- that place was unusually empty.  Got breakfast and to work early.  Not that it mattered.  There isn't much going on.

In possibly related news, I was hungry today.  So I ate.  Stress ate?

Breakfast:  Marble cornbread scramble, diced redskins, coffee, bite of a cinnamon roll w icing

Since I got up so early I had breakfast.  Takeout from a local place, figured I get it while I can.  It was glorious.

Lunch:  2 slices extra sharp cheddar, homemade roll with butter, Dannon Just 3 raspberry yogurt

Cut back a shade since I wasn't super hungry.  The yogurt was a one off, I thought I had a freebie coupon but it must have expired the day before I got it.  It was fine, but I prefer the greek yogurt and it really didn't need the sugar.

Dinner:  Leftover pizza.  I might have a Light Hearted IPA too later.

One of the best pizzas I've made.  Just exquisite.  Didn't suffer a bit from being frozen.

Exercise:  Nope.  No excuses, just lazy af.

Virus Watch

Wednesday, March 18, 2020

Things continue to slow down as the world deals with the coronavirus.

On the home front, let some water go this morning and it feels like things are getting back on track, though seeing lots of pics of tasty takeout in my Facebook feed definitely fired up the hunger this morning.   Not hard to resist though.

I never did a vacation wrapup post, other than posting food logs.  So a couple things -- first, I was extremely pleased by how I held up physically, despite not getting into a solid walking routine.  Losing what I have was very, very helpful and I never got too tired, too winded or too beat up.  I was also less stiff afterward, which was a surprise.  I didn't sleep particularly well due to soft mattresses, but apparently it was sufficient.  Overall very very pleased on the physical front.  I just needed to eat better but I'm not going to sweat it.

Breakfast:  Coffee with cocoa butter

Just had one w/ cb.  I'm not quite running low but I probably only have a few weeks worth left in my bag and it feels weird to be ordering non-essential stuff from Amazon so I'll probably wait a bit.

Lunch:  OM naturals roast beef, 2 slices extra sharp cheddar, homemade rolls with butter, Fage cherry TruBlend yogurt

Standard.

Dinner:  Duke's hot and spicy shorty sausages, leftover pizza

Got a little carried away with the snack sticks.  Pizza was excellent.  I am quite full.

Exercise:  Nope.  C'mon man.

Kinda Ravenous

Tuesday, March 17, 2020

Interesting times roll on.

Nothing so exciting on the personal front.  My body is fighting me on getting back into a good food routine, I was hungry this morning though that went away pretty quickly.  And I wanted to eat right when I got home -- that old thing -- so I compromised and ate something.   So it goes.

Breakfast:  Coffee with cocoa butter

Lunch:  OM naturals roast beef, 2 slices extra sharp cheddar, homemade rolls with butter, Fage cherry TruBlend yogurt

Standard.

Dinner:  Asiago/pepperjack Whisps, leftover homemade pizza from the freezer

We'll see if I want beer or nah.

Exercise:  Nope.

Accurate Projection

Monday, March 16, 2020

A moment of levity this morning as I accurately predicted, down to the tenth of a pound (okay, fine, my scale is in 2/10ths increments), what I'd weigh this morning.  I usually have no idea if it'll be up or down but coming off vacation I had great confidence it would be up.  And it was.  So be it.  I suspect much of it will vanish quickly, though I will say I was kinda tempted today.

Breakfast:  Coffee.  No time to add cocoa butter.

Lunch:  Jimmy Johns east coast italian, minus mayo, add mustard, peppers and pickles.  Dill pickle.

Quite good, I think I liked it better with mustard than when I'd gotten it with mayo.

Dinner:  4 tacos mexican style, hot sauce and avocado.

The usual.  Going to be takeout only for a while due to the stupid coronavirus.

Exercise:  Nope.   Need to change that.

Slow Motion Vacation Blowout

Sunday, March 15, 2020

Whew.  Quite a mini-vacation.   The slow motion trainwreck pairs nicely with the slow motion pandemic disaster.   Back on the horse tomorrow.  I'll be super interested to see the damage.

Breakfast:  2 McD Egg McMuffins, coffee

Lunch:  Some cheddar cheese Combos, coffee

No photo, consumed while driving.

Dinner:   Deluxe pizza plus jalapenos, Girl Scout caramel de-lites

Cookies not pictured.  Serious binge meal.

Exercise:  Nope, travel day.

Saturday, March 14, 2020

Breakfast:  Works omelet, bacon, 2 biscuits with strawberry jam, coffee

Lunch:  Spanish peanuts, cheddar cheese combos, 48 oz Yuengling

Dinner:  10 oz chopped steak w mushroom onion and bacon, baked potato w sour cream, blackberry cobbler with ice cream

Didn't eat the "butter", it was spread.  Also only ate half a spoonful of the beans, they weren't good.

Yeah, sugar bomb.  Pretty good though.  Incidentally, I had two beers in the afternoon and two after dinner.

Exercise:  12 holes with cart, cart path only

Lots of walking, lots of billy goating.

Friday, March 13, 2020

Breakfast:  Works omelet, 1 sausage patty, 2 biscuits w strawberry jelly, coffee

I didn't ask for and did not eat the potatoes or toast.

Lunch:  Jack Links beef stick, spanish peanuts, 36 oz Yuengling

Dinner:  Club sandwich, pinto beans

I didn't eat the bread.  No mayo.  Pretty decent really.

Also:  1 girl scout cookies, caramel delites

Exercise:  27 holes with cart, cart path only.  Wish I'd brought my pedometer.  One of the other guys was at 18,000 steps, none of them on flat ground.

Thursday, March 12, 2020

Breakfast:  Cracker Barrel double meat breakfast, coffee

Only ate one biscuit and half the gravy.  I was full.

Lunch:  Meijer hot & spicy peanuts, 24 oz Yuengling

Dinner:  Corned beef reuben sandwich (no dressing), pickles, baked potato w sour cream and butter, 2 girl scout cookies, caramel delites

Not bad.

Exercise:  18 holes with cart.

Good Looks And Bad

Wednesday, March 11, 2020

Vacation the first hits today.  Apparently I decided to start the vacation eating early.

Had an interesting (to me) observation this morning -- when I put on my work clothes, I'm pleased with how loose they're getting.  When I look in the mirror from close up before getting dressed, I can see the progress.  But when I happened to look from further away this morning, it was OMFG AVERT YOUR EYES.  Yup.  Still very fat.

Breakfast:  CFA chicken biscuit (x2), coffee, one earlier coffee with cocoa butter

Decided to have a late breakfast, not eat lunch at the regular time and to have a snack before leaving on my trip since dinner will probably be very late.  I only ordered one biscuit, they gave me another one free since it was the end of breakfast hours.  And I ate it, because I like chicken biscuits.

Lunch:  OM Naturals roast beef.

Considering I ate this about 5, it's almost not exactly lunch.

Dinner:  Culvers Bacon Deluxe, minus mayo plus mustard

Exercise:  Nope.  Work, then travel.  Long day.

Vacation Nearly Prepped

Tuesday, March 10, 2020

One more day after today, then it's a long weekend away.  It's been too long.  Sure, there were a couple days off over the holidays, but I didn't go anywhere.

Breakfast:  Coffee with cocoa butter (x2)

Lunch:  OM Naturals roast beef, 2 slices extra sharp cheddar, sourdough bread with generous butter, Fage cherry TruBlend yogurt

A standby.  This was the free store bread, not homemade.  I'll have it again tomorrow then tuck it in the freezer.

Dinner:  Leftover homemade deluxe pizza

I made multiple pizzas on Saturday and stuck a couple in the freezer.  This was thawed overnight and then reheated for 18 minutes at 350.  Result was nicely warmed, but the crust was limp.  I'll have to explore other options to crisp it up a bit so it's sturdier.  And while quality suffered a bit, it was still quite tasty.

Exercise:  Nope.  It's going to be an interesting trip.  I'm not in great shape, though thank goodness I've lost some weight and am moving better.

World Wild Monday

Monday, March 9, 2020

A crazy day in the rest of the world, a regular Monday in these parts.  No local corona virus cases, just not an issue here yet.  And nobody had much to say about the crash in the stock market.   It's a fairly surreal contrast with the places we see on the TV news.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Early start today, so it was coffee from home and later a McCoffee, neither with cocoa butter.

Lunch:  Leftover pizza

Yum.  The best part of Mondays.

Dinner:  4 mexican style tacos with onion, cilantro, avocado, hot sauce

The second best part of Mondays.

Exercise:  Nope.  Didn't sleep great last night and I'm still not entirely adjusted to the time change.

Daylight Save This

Sunday, March 8, 2020

Ugh.  Springing forward is annoying.  My body clock was completely baffled this morning -- I gave up and went back to sleep.  So now tomorrow is going to suck more.  Oh well.

At least it's going to be a warmish sunny day.  Might have to get outside and do something.

Breakfast:  1 egg, a sprinkle of sharp cheddar on well buttered sourdough, coffee

Absentmindedly used up all my bacon last night and I didn't feel like opening another package.  This was a fine breakfast, since it's already 10:00 I don't feel like anything more substantial.

Lunch:  Homemade tacos

Same as yesterday, just with cheddar instead of cheddar jack and fire sauce instead of salsa verde.  Oh, and I made the dough into 3 tortillas instead of 4.

Dinner:  Chuck roast, gravy, boxed potatoes, carrots with butter, roll with butter, 12 oz Miller Lite

Ate what was pictured, plus about 6-8 more carrots and the beer.  It wasn't a good night for the roast, it needed more time.  If I were in charge I would have served real potatoes and homemade rolls, but I'll survive.

Exercise:  Nope.  Quite active today but no dedicated exercise.

That Stuff Is Pervasive

Saturday, March 7, 2020

Made it to the weekend.  And though I have a lot to do, it's still relaxing.  And I have a short week plus vacation comin.g right up.

On the down side, it's the weekend of spring forward.  I was able to get up much earlier than usual today -- 5:00 a.m. -- but it's depressing to think that tomorrow that'll be 6:00 and I'll have to get up an hour earlier yet to keep that time.  I wasn't quite inspired enough to get outside to walk, but I figure that if can start getting the sleep schedule fixed it will help move me in that direction.  Long term.

Didn't suffer too much from overdoing treat night.  Stomach a bit unhappy -- too much acid too close to bedtime -- but nothing major.  Didn't retain as much water as expected either.  So life is good.

When I got my groceries last night I had a coupon for a free loaf of bread, any kind except the in store bakery.  I probably looked at fifteen different kinds, maybe more, and every single one of them -- even the "natural" stuff - had soybean oil (on in the case of Dave's Killer Bread and maybe one or two more, "organic expeller pressed canola oil").  No thanks.  I rolled the dice on the localish bakery sourdough that has no oil - the kind I usually get when I do buy bread - and the coupon was accepted.  So I'll have that in the freezer.  Sheesh.  I guess I'll be eating that crap on vacation since avoiding buns and bread entirely isn't going to be easy (or likely) but all the more reason to make my own.

Breakfast:  2 slices Wright thick applewood bacon, homemade buttermilk roll with butter, coffee w cacao butter

Tiny amount of cacao butter this morning, just didn't feel like adding much.  Didn't eat right away either, it's almost 8:00 as I'm finishing up.

Lunch:  Tacos w/ onion, cilantro, cheddar jack cheese and TB salsa verde

Pretty good.   The beef was from a prior week (frozen), maybe a hair less good but perfectly fine.  Went with the verde instead of fire for a change of pace, not bad.

Dinner:  Homemade pizza with pepperoni, bacon, ham and four cheeses

So good.  Made my own sauce, too.  And I have leftovers!

Exercise:  Nope.  Only modestly active, too.  Did the usual chores but also nodded off twice while relaxing.

Treat Time

Friday, March 6, 2020

Feeling pretty good about things.  TGIF of course.  I still get cranky when I see myself in the mirror or when I get aches and pains -- I'd sure like the random abdomen pains to go away -- but I'm still feeling positive.

Had my treat meal tonight and I enjoyed it.  Overdid it, certainly -- I still do not have complete power here -- but I think I'll be fine.  I even picked out the next treat meal, though it's a ways away and may not be until after two vacations.

Breakfast:  Coffee w cocoa butter (x2)

Lunch:  Roast beef, 2 slices extra sharp cheddar, Fage vanilla TruBlend yogurt

Super quick, didn't have time to heat the roll I had defrosting in the fridge.  Oh well.

Dinner:  Deluxe pizza plus jalapeno

Said it all.  Honestly I may even like the homemade pizza better, but this is good.

Exercise:  Nope.  How about tomorrow?  I did spend 45 minutes hiking the grocery store but I'm not counting it.

Barrier Broken Small Version

Thursday, March 5, 2020

A very pleasant surprise to see another dip on the scale this morning, blew right past the previous low for recent years.  I still (and will never) understand how these things go -- I ate too many carbs yesterday, didn't skimp at all at dinner and I got in zero exercise and virtually no movement.  This is not a complaint.  Not at all.  And yes, I may need to have breakfast tacos again tonight.

One of today's little projects is to try and find the next mini-target weight.  Seems like I wasn't very good about recording numbers while gaining, so I'm not sure what I will find.  If I don't find much, so be it.  I know how far I have to go to get back to my 2013 best.  It's a ways.

Edit:  Okay, next lower number is only a couple pounds, my last recorded 2013 weight.  So let's set the next little step eleven pounds down   That'll get me back to September 2013.  Starting to get a ways back in the archives here and I once again curse all the days (weeks, months) where I didn't record a weight.  Target 88, then 70 for the next one, epic vacation number.  35 low.  And remember dumbass that your fastest drops happened and you felt your best when you were walking every morning.  You built up to the point where your endurance hung on for quite a while after you stopped doing it daily.  That was seven years ago.  Idiot.

Breakfast:  Coffee with cocoa butter (x2)

Lunch:  Oscar Meyer naturals roast beef, 2 slices extra sharp cheddar, homemade buttermilk roll with butter, Fage cherry TruBlend yogurt

Quite satisfactory.  When I made the last batch of rolls I made them a bit bigger with the plan to just have one instead of two.  So far so good.

Dinner:  Breakfast tacos, take 2

Very tasty.  Proportions were good with 2 eggs and a bit less sausage.

Exercise:  Nope.

Unsolvable Sleep

Wednesday, March 4, 2020

Excess fluid level reduced slightly this morning.  Back on track.  Interestingly -- to me anyway -- when I checked the snorelab app it showed remarkably little.  What it did record is times when I must have been awake since I can hear a sniff common to my waking hours and other sounds indicative of being awake.  I do not remember being awake, though.  I would ordinarily be more concerned about this but given the lack of snoring it doesn't seem like this is an apnea situation.  Something to watch though.

Breakfast:  Coffee with cocoa butter (x2)

Lunch:  Ham & Bacon & White Bean soup, homemade buttermilk rolls with butter, 2 slices extra sharp cheddar, Fage vanilla TruBlend yogurt

A bit excessive but very tasty.

Dinner:  Breakfast tacos -- corn tortillas, 3 eggs scrambled, leftover CF breakfast sausage, a little shredded cheese, avocado, fire sauce

Turned out very good!  Will probably have again tomorrow, may cut the eggs down to two as I had a little bit much in the filling department.

Exercise:  Nope.  Pathetic.  Abdomen issue is flaring tonight which isn't helping.

Not Cleared Not Close

Tuesday, March 3, 2020

System remains questionable.   Given the lack of success in clearing it I'm going to hope that I'm wrong in my thinking that output and input are way out of balance.  Dunno.  Definitely bloated this morning especially upper abdomen - not a big surprise since I ate way too much again last night.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Didn't add any cocoa butter this morning.  Had to grab and go.

Lunch:  BBQ brisket, cup of spicy texas chili, half a corn cake

Didn't eat until some time after 1:30, I was ready and hungry by then.  Had a hard time deciding on where to go, since I didn't have time to make the trek home and heat anything up.  BBQ place won out and it was quite good.  I didn't eat the sauce, just the brisket, cup of chili and about half the corn cake.  If it didn't have sugar or if I could have added a bunch of butter I would have been okay with eating it.

Dinner:  Cheese popcorn, Fage cherry TruBlend yogurt

Benefit of the late and satisfying lunch, not at all hungry when I got home.  Eventually decided that I wanted some butter, went popcorn for that.  Added the yogurt I didn't have for lunch and I'm living the high life.

Exercise:  Nope.  Excuses are wearing awful thin.  Need to get to it.

System Issue

Monday, March 2, 2020

Another Monday.  I actually woke up this morning and couldn't remember if it was Sunday or Monday.  It required concentration ... and remembering that yesterday was warm ... to answer correctly.  Unfortunate.

System has been lacking in output and that was the case again this morning.  Potential corrective action has been taken, but it will definitely be nice to get it back to peak performance.  Otherwise, pleased not to see a gain after the massive dinner.

Breakfast:  Coffee with cocoa butter (x2)

Lunch:  Leftover pizza

Good as always.  Such a decent, easy, quick lunch.

Dinner:  Breakfast bowl -- 2 eggs, some CF sausage, Alexia hash browns, medium avocado, cheese, hot sauce.  Also:  cheese popcorn with butter

Good stuff.  No taco Monday today.  Actually measured the hash browns in order to size correctly with butter.

As an added bonus, I left work unusually early and am finished by 7:00.  Good times.

Exercise:  Nope.  Slept poorly, no chance of getting up.  Trying to fix the schedule tonight.

First March

Sunday, March 1, 2020

Two months in the books.  Two successful months.  Still tons of weight to lose.

In a particularly good mood this morning after an unexected drop on the scale.  It's a mystery how that happens -- I was not real active yesterday, ate three meals and carbs at each, didn't purge a notable amount of waste, and yet there it is.  I'll probably be higher tomorrow morning due to variance if nothing else, but it is sure nice when the numbers go down.  And it meant that I hit my goal for February, which is a bonus.  I didn't quite reach my reward trigger, which is too bad because tonight would have been a good night for it, but it's super close.  And I'm only a tiny fraction short of being my lightest since April 2014.  It's all good.  Next target is a few more -- three -- pounds that gets me to lowest since November 2013.

Speaking of the old days, I noticed when looking at that spring 2014 stretch I was eating a lot of familiar foods -- breakfast, homemade pizza and tacos!  It's almost like I'm wired to like such things and they somehow don't cause increased fatness unless I overdo it.  Of course I fell off as I have pretty much always done, but it was interesting to see.  Somewhat different than when I had prior success which was (iirc) definitely low carb.

Also:  Tried on some things yesterday that I'm likely to wear on vacation and was quite pleased with how they fit.  Definitely a few pounds gone especially around the midsection.  Yeah, yeah, still very fat.

Breakfast:  Oatwaffles with butter, 3 strips bacon, coffee with a little cacao butter

Dependably good.  Last of the oatwaffles -- could have used even more time in the oven.  Put them in before the bacon next time.

Lunch:  Tacos with cilantro, onion, shredded cheese and fire sauce

Same as yesterday.  Fresh tortillas, everything else was left over.  Yum.

Dinner:  Taco salad with al pastor pork

Audibled to this, wanted some veggies again.  Good, though it is too big.  I should have only eaten half or something, I'm quite full.

Exercise:  Nope.  Not going to count anything, though I was quite active.  I put up a shelf, worked on detailing my car, stuff like that.
