Big Drop Eyes Pop

Wednesday, June 30, 2021

I still worry about my scale being broken every time I get good news.  Which I had this morning and it was rather unexpected.  It was a great way to start the day.  Sleep was so-so, snoring OK, tired at least in part due to going to sleep very late.

Breakfast:  2 oz CF original jerky, coffee

Standard.  Forgot the photo.

Lunch:  Home tacos

Same as yesterday.

Dinner:  Qdoba brisket bowl, 12 oz All Day IPA, lime Halo Top bar

Why mess with success?  My burrito artist had a heavy hand with the queso and she was not stingy with the brisket either.

Exercise:  2.5 hours or so of house cleanout.  Not as intense today.

Keep The Score Down Please

Tuesday, June 29, 2021

Chugging along.  Really, really good snore score last night.  Very pleased about that.  Hoping that it continues.  Slept OK, didn't get up early or anything but in fairness I was pretty wired last night -- turns out I shouldn't have watched the end of the Tour de France stage on the DVR close to bedtime, that was a huge adrenaline hit.

Breakfast:  2 oz CF original beef jerky, coffee

They were out of cajun and everything else except original and teriyaki.  So I got original.  And you get an enthralling photo of it.  Cajun is better.

Lunch:  Home tacos

Skipped the salsa and jalapenos today, added some of my latest batch of homemade hot sauce.

Dinner:  Taco salad, 12 oz Miller Lite, lime Halo Top bar

Trying the different salads at a pizza place.  Quite good other than the stale tortilla chips, at least there were not many of them.

Exercise:  9 holes with cart, not much walking

Back To It

Monday, June 28, 2021

Pleased that I didn't pay a price too stiff for yesterday's indulgences.  Did need extra sleep, which puts me behind for this week, but oh well.  Just have to work hard.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Forgot my jerky but I wasn't hungry anyway.

Lunch:  2x McD double cheeseburgers

Ate in about three minutes flat at 2:00, had no time.  Would have customized, ditched buns, etc but just needed to eat fast.  No photo, in the car.  I'll eat the planned tacos tomorrow.

Dinner:  Qdoba brisket bowl, 12 oz All Day IPA, lime Halo Top bar

Standard bowl, minus cheese since I got a decent hit of queso.  Good portion of brisket too, the burrito artist working that side of the line was generous.  Now if I can just find one who'll give me extra guac.

Been quite happy with the Qdoba dinners, will probably keep them up as long as I keep losing.  A nice alternative to breakfast in the rotation.

Exercise:  3 hours of house cleanout.  Lol'd at how soaked my shirt was.

Waterworld Of June

Sunday, June 27, 2021

Well, at least it probably isn't going to rain as much today, so there is there.  It's a pretty soggy world, though, so probably not that much is going to happen outdoors.

Was quite late getting to sleep last night -- I went to bed at a very reasonable hour but was not sleepy.  I'm sure I prolonged the process by finishing a magazine and with a little phone time, though I was just not physically ready to switch off.  Felt like I slept OK and managed to stay asleep until just after 6.  Snoring continues to be on the better side this week.  All good.

Breakfast:  6 strips Smithfield cherrywood thick cut bacon, coffee

Repeat.  Would probably have been satisfied with half as much.

Lunch:  Breakfast bowl (2 eggs scrambled, hash browns, 2 sausage patties, sour cream, salsa,
jalapenos and hot sauce)

I was a bit liberal with the hash browns so this was perhaps more than I really needed given that I have been completely inactive so far today.  The additions were fine and it was tasty but I don't know that it was better than the usual undressed version.

Snack:  1.375 oz Great Lakes salt, pepper and onion potato chips

Dinner:  1.5 beef brats w/ bun and mustard, tater tots w ketchup, salad w ranch, a bite of moose tracks ice cream, lime Halo Top bar.

Eating mode was ENGAGED.  I ate way too many tater tots.  I did narrowly shut out an urge to get more food by promising myself the lime bar.  It was way to close to drive thru time.  Pretty pathetic, but it was an all around pathetic day.

Exercise:  Nope.  Super inactive today.  Set up for a big gain tomorrow.

Deluged

Saturday, June 26, 2021

It's been raining hard for a couple days and we have at least two more coming right up.  Multiple inch rains, the kind that prevent any kind of outdoor activity for hours at a time.  I mean, you could be out there, but you'd really have to enjoy being wet.  And dodge the lightning.  That's not me.

On the personal front, it was a pretty good week.  I felt decent, ate reasonably for the most part, got in more exercise than anticipated (thanks to work of all things) and saw happiness-inducing results on the scale.  Definitely a shade leaner here and there, definitely still have massive quantities of unnecessary weight especially around the middle.  Overall feeling very positive for once ... despite the fact that I woke up at 4:40 and have not been able to go back to sleep.  I wouldn't describe myself as peppy, but I'm functional and that makes me happy after a five hour night.

Breakfast:  6 strips Smithfield cherrywood thick cut bacon, coffee

Hungrier than normal this morning -- that is, I actually have some modest desire to eat -- so eventually I ate.

Lunch:  Breakfast tacos (2 eggs scrambled, 2 sausage patties, sour cream and hot sauce on corn tortillas)

Much later than I would have expected, ate at 2:00.  I guess dinner will be later than usual this evening.  Also cracked open a bottle of Dr Pepper Cherry Zero Sugar.  It's not bad, not sure it's better than regular DPZS.  I haven't found the ZS version of the with cream soda yet in anything less than a 12 pack, once I find a single or a two litre I'll try that variety too.

Dinner:  CF NY strip steak, mashed potato with butter, salad with Primal Kitchen ranch, 12 oz Miller Lite, will have a Halo Top lime bar later

Let's see.  About half of a 0.7 lb steak, so 5 oz or so.  One potato mashed with 1.5T or so of butter.  Salad mix, a small tomato, a few bacon bits, jalapenos and the ranch.  Tasty salad, will have again.  One of the better salads I've had lately. Was plenty of food.  Not the greatest steak I've ever had flavor-wise, but fine.  Will try seasoning the rest more heavily.

Exercise:  Nope.  Ran around doing errands but that doesn't really count.  It's been a day of modest accomplishments but at least a few things have been handled.

Less Food Plus Exercise

Friday, June 25, 2021

TGIF as usual.  It's been a cray week and it's not over just yet.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Again wasn't interested in eating anything, was not problem.

Lunch:  Home tacos

Very standard.  And also very tasty.  Hey, conveniently I should have just enough containers for next week too.

Dinner:  Qdoba brisket bowl, 12 oz All Day IPA, Halo Top lime bar

Same as yesterday.  Why not go for a complete repeat?

Exercise:  Three plus hours of house cleanout, including a LOT of stairs.  I am quite wiped out.

The Odd Encouraging Thing

Thursday, June 24, 2021

Every once in a while you get a totally unexpected boost.  Got one this morning.  Nice.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Wasn't feeling food so I just skipped it.

Lunch:  Home tacos

Same as usual.  Good as usual.  I made 2# of taco meat last night, so I have 7x portions of just over 5 oz pre cooking.  Seems to be a good amount, the tacos are substantial but not overstuffed.  I'm full but not unpleasantly so.

Dinner:  Qdoba brisket bowl (pintos, fajita veg, queso diablo, pico, roja, cheese, sour cream, guac), 24 oz All Day IPA, will have a Halo Top lime bar later

Delicious and well earned.  Rather like the Halo Top bars, 35 cal and 5 net carbs not bad for a treat.

Exercise:  3 hours of house clearout.  Worked up a good sweat.

Prepaid Nothing

Wednesday, June 23, 2021

Nothing much interesting today.  Didn't get a lot of sleep but at least it was a very light night for snoring.  Felt OK when I got up.

Breakfast:  <2 oz CF cajun jerky, coffee

Wasn't feeling it today.

Lunch:  Home tacos

Same as yesterday.  I'm out of meat but have two pounds of ground beef thawing in the fridge.

Dinner:  3 eggs over medium, hash browns, 2 sausage patties, 24 oz All Day IPA.  Will probably try a Halo Top lime bar later

I think the "in butter" is pretty established by now when it comes to the hash browns, plus a bit for the eggs.

Exercise:  Nope.  Just an exhausting day.

Tuesday, June 22, 2021

Another day.

Breakfast:  2 oz CF cajun jerky, coffee

Standard.  Going to have to restock this week.

Lunch:  Home tacos

Standard, added jalapenos for fun.  Good as always.

Dinner:  Chef salad w ranch, 12 oz Two Hearted Ale, 2x Mc Double cheeseburger

So close to a good day.

Exercise:  9 holes with cart, little walking

Actions Have Consequences

Monday, June 21, 2021

Don't eat like that, dumbass.

At least I only woke with a cramp once, the bad news is that it kept me awake from 3:30 until almost 5:00.   I abandoned plans to get up and exercise and straggled in to work late and poorly rested.  My guts are also still displeased with me despite my best efforts to remove the offending materials.  Yeesh.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Decided to forgo anything solid, was not a problem at all.

Lunch:  Qdoba chicken bowl w pinto beans, queso, pico, roja, cheese, sour cream and guac

No peppers ready so minus those, add queso since it doesn't appear likely to be veg oil-based.  Pretty tasty, though in the future I'll just get brisket which is so much better.

Dinner:  Brisket w a little spicy sauce, texas chili, corn cake, meijer strawberry fruit bar, chips and salsa

It's not the best brisket I've ever had, not close to it in fact.  But it's still pretty good.

Exercise:  Nope.

Minorly Deflating

Sunday, June 20, 2021

Watching the scale is dumb.  Hoping for a drop of some sort after getting lots of exercise yesterday, but no such luck.  Oh well.  Just a minor deflating moment.  I did eat a lot of starch, much of it late.  May also have been a leftover impact from Friday night's meal.

Much bettter night of sleep last night.  Very late getting to bed, but no leg issues and after an initial burst the snoring was significantly better.

Breakfast:  2 eggs over medium, hash browns, 2 sausage patties, coffee

I think it goes without saying that prep was in butter for both the eggs (just a bit) and hash browns (uh, not just a bit).  I didn't think this was huge but I am quite full.  Time to go burn it off.

Lunch:  Chips and salsa, 16 oz Ultra

Fail.  Should have just skipped it.  Was not needed.

Dinner:  Brats w mustard, chips, potato salad, fruit, mac and cheese , 12 oz Blue Light, vanilla cake and ice cream

UGH.  Ate way too much and bad stuff.  Feel wretched, especially after the cake.  Will be drinking extra water before going to bed and I'll have to wait until more of this gets digested.  IDIOT.

Exercise:  18 holes with cart, not much extra walking.  Didn't check the pedometer, but I believe it was just over 10k steps when I looked earlier.

Tuckered

Saturday, June 19, 2021

Whew.  Finally home and relaxing and can do the write up.

Not a great night last night.  Legs were very tight which led to a number of times where I had to get up due to a cramp or other discomfort.  Not much I can do about that, really.  Didn't really affect things too much today, wasn't super tired.  Just annoying.

Breakfast:  2 eggs over medium, hash browns, 3 strips bacon, raisin toast w homemade strawberry jelly, coffee

Standard pre-golf meal out.  One I'm happy to pick up the check for.

Lunch:  None.  Did have 12 oz Miller Lite after golf.  Just water and a Gatorade Zero during golf.

Dinner:  Taco salad, al pastor, extra avocado.  Meijer strawberry fruit bar

12 hours later.  Figured I earned it.

Exercise:  27 holes with cart, lots of walking looking for wayward shots.  Then I did the grocery shopping and walked down the block to get dinner.  I'm tired.  Over/under 15k steps and I'm taking the over.

Water And Scale Watching

Friday, June 18, 2021

Weird overnight.  Woke up at 3:30 to get rid of some water.  Was quite awake.  Woke up when the alarm went off at 5:00.  Was fairly awake.  Got up eventually -- no walking as a heavy thunderstorm was going through -- and eventually dozed off in the recliner.  After that I was decidedly NOT awake and my body was not keen on the idea of getting up, even at 7:30.  I don't get it.

Was a little greedy hoping for a big drop this morning.  Got rid of a LOT of water.  Did get a nice one, just a bit less than I was wishing for.  No worries.  I have been questioning my scale's accuracy after reading back through the archives but I do think it's consistent (ish?).  Current weight isn't super low but it's down a bunch from some of the higher numbers ... about 20 pounds would get me into the range of lowest since the postloss FAIL kicked in.  Long ways to get back to the best numbers recorded.  At least I'm motivated at the moment.

Breakfast:  2 oz CF cajun jerky, coffee

Standard.  I have enough for next week but will need to hit the farm soon.

Lunch:  Home tacos

Also standard.  For some unknown reason I have a couple tortillas left over.  No idea why.

Snack:  Salt and vinegar pork rinds

Probably had an ounce and a half.  Enjoyed but I was able to stop no problem.

Dinner:  Fried chicken sandwich with gouda and bacon and other stuff on a pretzel bun, tortilla chips, some fries w ketchup, 16 oz Ultra

Post golf dinner.  Not diet food, that's for sure, but it was sure good.  Ate too much too late though.

Exercise:  18 holes with cart.  Obviously didn't stress about this morning -- the weather truly prevented any chance of walking -- because I knew I'd be out on the course this evening.

Small Kinda Positive

Thursday, June 17, 2021

Finally, an early morning that I'm pretty happy about.  Felt like I slept okay, though I had the worst snore score in a long time, just loud and constant.  Woke up when the alarm went off at 5:00.  Dawdled a bit but got out there for a walk -- just an absolutely perfect morning for it, low 50s and not much humidity.  No epic hike or anything but I got in enough to get the blood pumping.  Happy.  Minor grumbling from the knee but not bad and (more importantly at the moment) the rest of the leg seemed fine.  Check back later.

Breakfast:  2 oz CF cajun jerky, coffee

Had to wait a while, since I had blood drawn.  Fortunately my appetite is reasonably well controlled right now.  Once again a satisfactory breakfast.

Lunch:  Qdoba bowl - pintos, extra chicken, peppers, pico, roja, cheese, sour cream and guac

The burrito artist gave me a ton of chicken.  This was pretty darned tasty.  Not as good as brisket, of course, but quite good.  Unfortunately extra meat takes it up to around $12, so it'll be a treat, not a regular feature.

Dinner:  Home tacos, usual, 12 oz Miller Lite, will have a Meijer strawberry fruit bar later

Ran errands at lunch so I flipped my meals, though I otherwise would have had breakfast for one.   Tasty as always.

Exercise:  Just over a mile, 2500 steps, about 25 minutes.  Still haven't fixed my stride length on the pedometer so I plugged it in to an online calculator which gave me 1.2 miles.  Passes the sanity check based on time and number of blocks walked.

Excessive Wordiness

Wednesday, June 16, 2021

One thing I did notice from reading back through the archives is that my posts used to be a lot shorter (lol).  Not that there is anything wrong with either way, just an observation.

Between the modest exercise and the lightish dinner I felt pretty decent last night.  Was nice, though it did not translate to a restful night of sleep.  Too much snoring.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Had an early appearance and forgot my bag of jerky.  Not a problem, didn't really notice any hunger until just before the usual lunch time.

Lunch:  Home tacos, cheese sour cream and jalapeno verde salsa

Standard.  Still easy and delicious.  Other than too many tortilla carbs it's outstanding.

Dinner:  3 eggs over medium, hash browns in butter, 2 sausage patties, jalapeno verde salsa, 12 oz Miller Lite, Meijer strawberry fruit bar

Superb as always.  Added an extra egg, dialed back the butter just a bit.

Exercise:   Nope.  Going to try and chase around the house cleaning for an hour again, we'll see.  If I make it, I'm counting it.

Nine Hour Resignation

Tuesday, June 15, 2021

It seems like I have to be resigned to needing nine hours of time in bed.  I was reading back through the archives last night and the early days were full of notes of nights that I didn't get nearly as much sleep - four hours, six hours, seven hours.  I was motivated, so I set an early alarm hoping to get by on seven hours last night and to take advantage of a great weather forecast to kickstart some walking.  NOPE.  Woke up with the alarm and felt awful, low oxygen headache.  It took two more hours to feel vaguely functional.

So frustrating.

It may be that I'm going to have to wait before I can implement any kind of early morning walking plan - it's just not feasible to go to bed at 8:00 during the summer.  The problem is that evening walks have their own set of problems - workday fatigue, other obligations, keeping me awake later, etc etc.

It may all be moot if I have additional leg/knee/ankle/foot issues.  It wasn't real happy with me on multiple fronts over the weekend and it's definitely feeling stressed, so maybe it's not all bad that I couldn't walk this morning.  But I am rather sick and tired of my traitorous body refusing to work with me when I have these flashes of motivation.

Speaking of motivation, I tried to do two hours of consecutive tasks last night as exercise ... didn't make it.  Just shy of one hour before I sat down.  It was a surprisingly good workout and I did get a few things accomplished so I am happy that I tried it.

Breakfast:  2 oz CF cajun jerky, coffee

New photo.  A bit more than usual, I must have gone light yesterday.

Lunch:  Home tacos with cheese, sour cream and salsa verde

Extra good today.  I think today's taco meat was from a batch I divided into thirds instead of fourths, so it had more.

Snack:  Mac's salt and vinegar pork rinds

Impulse buy at Walmart recently, they're pretty good.  Had quite a few.

Dinner:  Chef salad with ranch, 12 oz Miller Lite, Meijer strawberry fruit bar

Vegetation and lots of it.  Pretty good.

Exercise:  9 holes with cart, not much walking

Somewhat More Serious

Monday, June 14, 2021

Back at it.  No question that more improvements are still to be made -- tortillas have way too many carbs, for example -- but I'm looking to build on the eat at home except when free momentum with some simpler, better food choices.  For once I don't have that much junk on hand, mostly just a box of frozen fruit bars.  If I don't have it I'm far less likely to eat it!

I crashed out hard last night, couldn't stay awake to watch the end of a golf tournament.  Asleep at 10, didn't get going until after 7:30.  Sleep quality wasn't good, but it looks like there was enough of it that I will be able to get through the day without the overpowering sense of fatigue.

Breakfast:  CF cajun jerky, coffee

A thoroughly OK breakfast.  I do need to see how much I have left on hand though.  Borrowed the photo from a previous day since I didn't take one this morning.

Lunch:  Home tacos w cheese, sour cream and fire sauce

Super simple tacos.  Super easy, super quick.  Just have to remember to thaw the precooked meat.

Dinner:  2 eggs over medium, hash browns in butter, 2 sausage patties, jalapeno verde salsa, 12 oz Miller Lite, will have a Meijer strawberry fruit bar later

Delicious as always.  About a thousand calories, I'm sure, but that's what happens when you are liberal with fat.

Exercise:  Since I didn't get up early enough today and I have a ton of stuff on my to do list, I'm going to try something new - I'm going to be cleaning and such from 7-9p without sitting down.  If I accomplish that I am counting it.  When you're this fat two straight hours of activity counts.

Missing Rest Again

Sunday, June 13, 2021

Once again missing the deep slumber of my wayward youth.  Seriously.  I'd get in bed and would be out like a light.  Dreams were relatively rare.  I'd wake up and it would be morning.  Sadly, aches, pains, an old person's bladder and way too much fat make deep sleep a thing of the past.

Breakfast:  Coffee, Fig Newtons

Lol, yeah.  At least I wrote up my grocery list and this week should be better.

Lunch:  Sack of Taco Bell, root beer

Dinner:  Pizza Hut thin pep ham green olive, sub rolls

Exercise:  18 holes with cart, left the pedometer in the bag.  Oops.

Saturday, June 12, 2021

Whew.  Another toasty day, looking forward to less humdity tomorrow.

Bad eating day, mostly planned.  One more tomorrow, to be followed by getting on the horse next week.

Breakfast:  2 eggs over medium, 3 strips bacon, hash browns, raisin toast w homemade strawberry jelly, coffee

Standard pregolf breakfast out.

Lunch:  Campfire dog, fries, 12 oz Miller Lite

Snack:  McDouble, sm fries, Dr Pepper

Needed more liquid, added some bonus sodium.

Dinner:  Deluxe pizza plus jalapeno, 20 oz Coke, will have 2 outshine grape bars

Planned pizza night.

Exercise:  18 holes with cart, plus some shopping.  12,500 steps +

Friday, June 11, 2021

Half a day at work, hooky this afternoon to play golf.  Needed.

Breakfast:  CF cajun jerky, coffee

Worked great again, just 1 1/3 oz is fine.

Lunch:  Ham and cheese sandwich w mustard on a sub roll

Quick bite.

Dinner:  Brisket mac and cheese wrap, broccoli potato salad, a few fries w ketchup, salt and pepper chips, 16 oz Ultra, 32 oz grape Powerade, 2 grape Outshine bars

A bit excessive.

Exercise:  18 holes with carts.  Kinda toasty out there.

Some Dietary Motivations

Thursday, June 10, 2021

It's been a mixed bag lately.   I'm pretty happy with how I've been able to eat all meals at home the last couple weeks, other than meals out I'm not paying for (with the execption to that of Saturday breakfasts which are planned and I'm OK with).  No drive thru breakfasts or lunches or pizza dinners.  I am planning a pizza this weekend -- intentional, not out of laziness.

Next week we start working on some better food choices.  I've gotten way too sloppy with the junk carbs.  If I eat good stuff - protein, decent fats, vegetables - the weight should drop off.  It just hasn't been the focus lately, I had to break some bad habits first.

Breakfast:  CF cajun jerky, coffee

Really pleased with how this is working as a satisfying breakfast.  It's easy (as long as I don't run out), portable and it doesn't take much to make appetite a non-issue all morning long.  Skipping would be better (imo) but this isn't bad.

Lunch:  Ham and cheese sandwich on a WM sub roll, Annie's cheddar bunnies, dill pickles

Same old, except I got these enormous (lol 260 calorie) sub rolls instead of hot dog buns.

Dinner:  Yellow rice and leftover rotisserie chicken, chips and salsa verde, 12 oz Yuengling (forgot to log 12 oz Miller Lite yesterday).  Will have a couple grape Outshine bars too.

Random stuff.  Cleaned up my supply of rice, chicken, chips and salsa.  Oh, and my last Yuengling. Not too much left from my trip to Walmart yesterday other than a bunch of sub rolls and a package of ham.

Exercise:  Nope.   Sluggish.

When The Memory Goes

Wednesday, June 9, 2021

I thought I had at least started this post yesterday.  Oops.

Breakfast:  CF cajun jerky, coffee

1.33 oz instead of 2 oz (3 days instead of 2) on this package.  Still fine.

Lunch:  2x hamdogs, Annies cheddar bunnies, dill pickles

Same as every other day this week.

Dinner:  Walmart rotisserie chicken, Julio's tortilla chips and salsa, Fig Newtons

Whew.  That's a lot, most of which is not pictured.  Guess I should stick to shopping once a week.  The chicken was pretty solid, though I was not excited to see the label say a 3 oz serving is 250 calories.

Exercise:  Nope.
