Two Hour Man

Last day of the year.  I forgot to use this title yesterday when I meant to do so - after another brutal night of not getting good sleep.  Went to bed at 10, woke up at 12.  Moved to recliner.  Two hours.  Moved to couch, two fiftul hours.  Yeesh.

Last night was different!  I had dinner and before I could even think about doing anything I fell fast asleep in the recliner.  Woke up hours later at 12:30.  Got ready for bed, tried that for a bit, had the milkshake I had planned for earlier and went back to sleep on the couch.  Slept soundly and didn't get up until after 9:00!  It was 10:30 before I got out the door.  Not sure what the total sleep count was but it was more than 8 hours, maybe as much as 10 and I definitely felt it.    Oh, that's right, I gave up on bed quickly due to what felt like acid reflux, made more sense to sleep uprightish.  Nice to be able to do so between the recliner and the couch.

Breakfast:  Buffet breakfast, coffee


Usual place, was so late I decided to try the weekly buffet instead of getting my usual.  Okay, won't be doing that again, it wasn't very good.  You have to hit it when stuff is fresh and the only things that were were the french toast (which I went back for when it was brought out, the only thing not pictured) and the sausage gravy.  We'll call it 2 stars out of 5, will not eat again.

Lunch:  2x TB chipoltle chx burritos, root beer

Dinner:  Deluxe pizza, 12 oz Miller Lite, will probably have a small home milkshake

Tired.  Long week, even though I worked no extra hours.  Couldn't manage any.  Just wiped out.

I was quite amused to be down this morning.  I felt very very dense, fat but solid fat not flabby.  Will be interesting to see how things go in January.

Lunch:  Italian beef, chicago dog, fries

Yum.  Local place that does a great job.  Super expensive, but it was a splurge.

Slow start this morning, though I did push myself out the door only a little late.  Got to work and before I could get much going we had a major water leak.  Doh.

On the bright side, despite the complete lack of movement my relative lack of appetite and disposal of much stuff resulted in a prodigious drop on the scale.  Undeserved but I'll take it, nice to have a tiny sliver of sunshine.

Yup.  Had a little homemade chex mix later that I was gifted.

Lunch:  Jimmy Johns Vito, salt and vinegar chips, diet lemonade

Fat as an old porker, but it's Christmas Day.

An absolutely bizarre overnight.  Went to sleep a couple minutes after midnight - I wasn't super tired but I successfully nodded right off.  And then I woke up at 1:30.  Good grief.  Moved to the recliner, eventually got a couple more hours, woke up again.  Moved to the couch, didn't really get more sleep.    So I think I'm running on four or five hours at best, and yet I'm not super fatigued.  I do miss good nights of sleep though.  Maybe this coming year I'll get some things figured out.  Oh, and if I ever move, I'm not setting my bed against an exterior wall.   

Breakfast:  Entemanns mini frosted donuts, coffee

First breakfast.

Second breakfast:  Sausage strata, raisin toast, orange juice, almond pastry


Traditional fare.  Skipped the pumpkin bread, I have enough stuff to eat here.

Lunch:  Chips and onion dip

Spent most of the day sleeping after all that.

Dinner:  Home milkshake

Didn't feel much like eating.

Exercise:  Nope.  At least the blizzard is winding down today and it's supposed to warm up a bunch.  It would be nice if that snow and ice would melt.

It's almost noon and I'm considering leaving the house for the first time in almost two days.  Probably shouldn't, as the weather continues to be nasty, but I wouldn't be going far.  Holiday plans have been changed due to illness, so I have more time now (and will have less on Monday).  We'll see, I don't have all that much enthusiasm for the idea.  Maybe I'll bake another loaf of bread and do a batch of lentils instead.

Otherwise, fattening continues apace. 

Breakfast:  2 eggs scrambled with american cheese, 2 slices raisin toast w butter, orange juice, almond pastry


Easy, low effort stuff.

Lunch:  Jalaranch mix, raspberry lemonade, a slice of pumpkin bread w butter

Cleanup on the mix.  Tested the bread, was good.

Dinner:  Supreme frozen pizza, 12 oz Miller Lite, had a basic home milkshake later.


Pretty good.

Exercise:  Nope.

A much desired day off.  Staying home today.  Almost talked myself into going to work this morning, since I would not have far to go and we only got a few inches overnight, but I'm hanging onto the plan of a stay home day.  I got my presents wrapped last night, so other than cooking I'm prepared for the holiday.

I can't say it's been an incredibly productive morning, but I have gotten a few things done, starting with a cleanout and reorg of the coat closet.   Filled a green bag and have some other stuff to donate, recycle and I'm sure I'll start a take to storage pile soon.  Lots more that I hope to do, we'll see how the desire holds up.  So far it's been slow but pretty steady.

Anyway, I'm currently trying to guess how much I'll bloat up before the new year.  It would be nice to stay below my January 1 number, but I only have a handful of pounds to work with there and a massive pile of carbs and other crap to eat.

Breakfast:  Coffee, donuts, lazy bagels w cream cheese later


Carbapalooza.  I bought Baida everything bagel seasoning since I'm not venturing to Trader Joe's any time in the forseeable future and it's fine.

Lunch:  Lentils.  Later on some jalaranch snack mix and 12 oz Miller Lite



Man do I like those lentils.

Dinner:  Dominos brooklyn pep ham, 12 oz Miller Lite


Reheated quite well, threw on a little parm and some crushed red pepper and destroyed it.

Also:  A couple screwdrivers.  Which went down pretty easy.

Exercise:  Just active around the house, since I'm not going out.  We'll see if I get enough done to count it.

Sigh.  I am in a funk.  No desire, no discipline, no focus, no goals being chased, nothing other than just existing.  Meeting bare minimum expectations and in the case of work struggling to even do that.  It's very very bad.  I don't need to have conquer-the-world levels of ambition but at least a little would be helpful.  I need to snap out of this.

Yup.  I was going to have a slice of toast but things aren't in good order and I didn't want to take the time, especially since I was not able to get up early.  No surprise there, schedule is way off, but still.  Mostly a failure of will.

Holy cow, one week until Christmas.  Insanity.  Pretty much just started my shopping, it's going to be a particularly uninspired assortment of gifts this year I am afraid, just do not have a lot of ideas.  Cranked out some local stuff this morning, ordered a couple things from Amazon, hoping to not have too much left after today.  I do have one out of town stop to make but that's going to wait until Thursday or Friday I think.  

Lots of limping today.  Started treatment on the callus on the bottom of my foot, but it's going to take a while to see any kind of results.

Breakfast:  Standard pre-golf breakfast out


Not ideal golf conditions I am afraid so none will be played.

Lunch:  3x TB chipotle ranch chx burrito, 24 oz Miller Lite, chips, PB filled pretzels

On the go, sorta.  Busy anyway.  I have a completely unreasonable love for PB pretzels but they sure make me fat in a hurry.

Dinner:  Flank steak, mashed potatoes w gravy, carrots, vanilla cake w ice cream

Birthday party.  Weird, I know I had my phone out, thought I took a photo of the dinner.

Also:  McD big mac, mcchix, sm fries, Hi-C.  Sadly the Hi-C is still messed up.

Exercise:  Nope, though I did limp around the grocery store for almost 90 minutes, did all this additional shopping, etc.

It's really stupid to wake up a half hour after you finally get to sleep.  So stupid.  I didn't get to sleep until almost 12:30 and was beyond annoyed when I woke up and the clock said it was just after 1:00.  At least I promptly went back to sleep.  Once I woke up again around 5:00 snoozing was mostly pointless as work thoughts took over my brain.  Sigh.  I'm ready for this week to be over.

Also of note is that it almost seemed like I had a bit of acid reflux going.  Haven't had any issues with that in quite a while.  I may need to tweak the diet to reduce coffee, tomatoes, spicy stuff a bit, but we'll see if some minor other changes will take care of it first.  I don't think the pillows I bought are ideal, so I may need to change something there.  One way or another I'll figure it out.  The 'flux wasn't too awful, I just don't want it to be a regular thing, there are enough reasons why I can't sleep.

 No good news on the scale today, so I may have gotten rid of all of the current surplus water.  Still need to make some reductions, I think, in the carbs and junk in order to get on a track of regular losses.  Feels like I'm in a pretty stable range, I just want that range to be lower.

Breakfast:  Toast, coffee

Yup.  Bread was from the freezer (defrosted in fridge) so it needed toasting ... which made it stellar.

Lunch:  Soup and grilled cheese

Yup.

Dinner:  Dominos brooklyn sausage mushroom, 12 oz Miller Lite, mixed nuts

Cracked.  Long week.  And sucked in by the carryout tip deal.

Eighty Five Or Ninety

Almost there.  Not quite one hundred percent this morning, still had a little junk to clear out, but not that bad and I don't feel terrible.  Managed to get six consecutive hours, more or less, of sleep which was nice.  Dozed for a while after getting up but didn't rack up any additional sleep.  I can live with this level of functioning, though of course I still hope for optimal.

Didn't take a hit for yesterday's lunch which is nice.  But also didn't shed more water, so there may not be that much easy stuff left.  Still have hopes of dropping a little more before the holiday eating kicks in.

Breakfast:  Bread w butter, coffee

Same thing.  Just about done with the small loaf.

Lunch:  Soup, bread w butter, swiss cheese

Standard.  Had the odd extra bit of bread since it was a small crust.  The soup was a jar from an old batch that I noted when reorganizing the freezer, it was okay but not my favorite.  I should try and eat up the odd jars of lentils and spicy beans too since those have been in for a while.

Dinner:  Mixed nuts, 12 oz All Day IPA, deluxe home chili, SF white choc pudding

Why mess with success, same exact thing as last night.

Exercise:  Nope.  Schedule is off and health not fully recovered.  It was also nasty out there so I probably would not have gone even if I were awake.

How about that, a successfulish day.  My standards are low, I didn't have any major blowouts so I am counting it as a win.  And I even got something resembling normal sleep last night, only getting up once and that was an urgent need.  I'll take it.  Letting go of the water is always a good thing.

Turns out I couldn't make it another in a row, but so it goes.

Breakfast:  Bread and butter

If I'm eating it for breakfast safe to assume it's the homemade stuff.

Lunch:  Jimmy Johns Vito, salt and vinegar chips

Plans foiled by work.  Oh well, I'll eat the soup tomorrow.

Same as yesterday, just different pudding.  Again cut my serving size in half, working so far.

Exercise:  Nope.  I had a better morning but was still very tired and slept as late as I could.  Still some phlegm/congestion but notably less than yesterday.  Once I got going it was fine.

Ready, Waiting, Oh Come On

Sigh. 

I actually felt pretty decent last evening.  With minor adjustment in food I never felt like I overate but was not hungry.  Had good energy, made soup and baked up the bread dough that's been hanging out in the fridge.  Didn't nod off at any point and in fact wasn't at all ready to sleep until relatively late, after 11:00.  

Which is why it's so maddening to wake up at 1:30, feeling worse.  Drainage, coughing, yuck.  Went back to sleep on the couch and when it came time to get up it was a struggle.  So frustrating.  Ended up being late again to work, not that it was a big deal, I just don't like it.  And I have little pep.  At least otherwise I feel better than I did when I woke up.  Thank goodness for that.  But I'm ready to be 100%.  110% even.

Oh, and I got rid of some water.  That's a good thing.

Breakfast:  Bread w butter, coffee


Bread recipe makes one large (2.5 lb) and one small (1 lb) loaf.  Sliced up the small loaf and I have to say it turned out excellent.  Crusty and delicious.  I'll slice up and freeze the big loaf at lunch, the small loaf should get me through the week.  I do not know whether breaking bread for breakfast will be an ongoing thing -- have done quite well without thank you -- but for the moment it's a pleasure.

Lunch:   Soup, bread w butter, swiss cheese

Yup.  Again skipped making a sandwich.

Dinner:  Mixed nuts, 12 oz All Day IPA, home chili deluxe, SF vanilla pudding


Hungry when I got home so a few nuts and the beer to take the edge off.  Chili from the batch I made a couple weeks back out of the freezer w/ cheddar, jalas and sour cream.  The other half of yesterday's pudding.  All solid eats, about zero effort.  Could have eaten more, certainly had the urge (the whole not ready to stop eating yet thing), but holding strong.

Exercise:  Nope.  See above.  Had designs but when I can't get decent sleep is problem.

Holy cow, two weeks until Christmas.  Very much not ready for that.  As in barely started doing anything.  I guess I did make a list of some things I have to do and much of the prep isn't that bad.  No excessive cooking or cleaning since I don't host anything.

Sinuses continue to be an issue.  Definitely got a drip going that's producing a cough, but at least I can't say that I feel lousy.  It's not helping my energy and enthusiasm levels, but like I said, at least I'm not sick.

Sigh.  It's a vicious cycle.  I'm hungry in the evening, I overeat by a bunch, it's not fully digested by the time I go to bed and I don't sleep well.  Time to get a grip on that.   I have some ideas, let's see if I can implement them.

Breakfast:  Standard pregolf breakfast out, coffee


Yup.  Was much, much later than usual today, did not get going at all until after 8:30.  Pathetic.  And obviously there was no golf.  I'd be tempted to try it tomorrow (high of 41), but I'm waiting on some new tires and don't really think driving any more than is absolutely necessary is in the cards.

Lunch:  Jalaranch snack mix, soup, later a small glass of orange juice


Late lunch, just way way way off today.

Dinner:   Pizza hut thin pep pork beef, breadstick w extra parm and sauce, 12 oz Miller Lite, another little glass of OJ later

Needed a day off from the sausage and peppers.  Of course I should have gone in a completely different direction, but it is what it is.  It has not been a good day in any respect.

Exercise:  Nope.  Felt extra lousy this morning so no chance.  The best I felt before I got out the door was when I was awake between 3:15 and 4:00.

I guess a schedule change is in the offing.  No pep again this morning.  I woke up at 3:45 and was quite awake.  Went back to bed with only intermittent success -- thinking about work would jolt me awake, I'd refocus, doze and then boom another work thought.  And yet it wasn't enough to get me going.  Even after I hit the alarm at 6:00 (no delusions of an early walk even though I did go to bed early) I still couldn't make myself get going.  Which means I was behind from the start this morning at work.  

So I guess I'm going to have to shift to going in after dinner a couple nights a week.  I need to put in more hours and that's seemingly the only way it's going to happen.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.  Should have had that third cup too.

Lunch:  Soup, grilled ham and cheese


Used up the rest of the ham to beef this up a bit since I went with the smaller container of soup.  I have no idea why a pint jar holds so much more than a 2 cup storage container.  It shouldn't but it does.

Dinner:  Domino's brooklyn extravaganzza, SF choc pudding.

Sigh.  Work.

Never developed any sort of pep today.  I got a reasonable amount of sleep, I think, and didn't wake up before my alarm.  Snoozed a bit.  Wasn't exhausted or anything when I got up.  I just never pepped up.  So it goes.  I survived.

Off Routine Off Platform

Just off this morning.  Up too late last night watching football, should have just planned to watch it on tape this morning like I have several times previously this season.  Oh well.  I paid for it.  Off routine.

New pillows were fine, but still scratchy when I got up this morning.  I can live with it, but it would be nice if it would go away.  I'll continue working on dusting and vacuuming and will keep an eye on the humidity, hopefully I'll get things sorted and can stay healthy.  It would sure improve my chances of getting on a regular morning exercise plan if I can sleep better and wake up feeling better.

Breakfast:  Lazy bagels w veggie cream cheese, donuts, coffee


Carb central.  I did the lazy bagels a little different, threw the seasoning and a bit of parm in the dough, no egg wash.  Turned out fine.  Not as pretty, but tasty.

Lunch:   Ham and swiss on demi baguette, soup


Same sandwich as yesterday, once again delicious.  First of the most recent batch of soup (I have a couple of the prior GOAT batch left but decided to test the new), worked out just fine to skip the potatoes.

Dinner:  Roast, mashed potatoes, carrots, rolls w butter, gravy, 12 oz Miller Like, sugar cookies w vanilla ice cream and choc sauce


Excessive.  But all really good, except the lousy sugar cookies.
