Not Quite Snow Day

I haven't looked outside yet to see how much snow we received overnight.  The forecast was only for a couple of inches, but we must have had some since I have heard snowplows.  Hoping it isn't much more, since I have places to go (okay, place, singular, the grocery store) and things to do.  Can't really afford to just dink around all day.

Anyway, January is about to go in the books as a not-successful month.  So it goes.  I'm not too upset about that fact, instead choosing to be positive about being relatively healthy and sane amongst all the bad stuff that's happening.

Breakfast:  Buttermilk pancakes with butter and maple syrup, 4 strips Kiolbasa pepper bacon, grapefruit, glass of whole milk, coffee


Have that pancake recipe scaled perfectly to produce six nice sized pancakes, ideal for two hearty weekend breakfasts.  Sure, it's not great for me.  Tasty though.

Lunch:  Yellow rice with ham, grilled cheese sandwich, Diet Dr Pepper Cherry



Cleanup on the ham and the bread and a package of cheese.  All good.   Plus I have leftovers on the rice with ham.

Dinner:  Chop suey casserole, green beans w cheese, rolls with butter, lime jello with pineapple

Forgot to take a photo, which happens sometimes when I cook then transport.  Oh well.

Exercise:  Nope.  Moderately active, nothing that counts.  A bit concerned by how bad my conditioning is, went up and down a short flight of stairs a couple times in succession and had to take it slow.  Sigh.

Whew.  TGIS.  Felt like I slept okay despite more/louder snoring.  A little sluggish this morning but nothing that couldn't be overcome.  Just dawdling before tackling the to-do list.

Speaking of that to-do list, it is long.  I have no hope of getting through it, but I am hoping for a productive weekend where I can check a dozen things off.  I didn't get the start I had hoped last night, even though my wishes were modest, but that's the way it goes.

Breakfast:  Buttermilk pancakes w butter and maple syrup, 5 strips Kiolbasa pepper bacon, 1/2 grapefruit, glass of whole milk, coffee


Went deluxe today.  Have some stuff to use up (eg milk and buttermilk).  All delicious.  Oddly enough, I probably would have been fine with just 2 or maybe 3 strips of bacon -- that never happens!  I'm never adequately baconed.

Lunch:   Olive burger, french fries w ketchup, chicken rice soup, Diet Dr. Pepper Cherry


Takeout burger from a local place.  The fries aren't any good without ketchup (not that I should get fries in the first place) but the burger is fantastic.

Dinner:  Pepperoni pizza


One of the better pizzas I have made.  Added some basil to the sauce, gave it extra zip.

Exercise:  Nope.  Modestly active around the house, but not enough to call it exercise.

Hey A Normalish Day

Better.  Not great bob but definitely better.  Slept fine.  Snored less.  Wasn't too tired come morning.  Had a productive day.  Ate at home.  All good.  Still kinda ate like crap but it was at home so I'm not going to sweat it.  I even ate two meals at the table.  Woo.

Working on a theory that I need to not eat a ton of dairy in the evening.  That it could be a major contributor to my sinus issues when horizontal.  Of course I may need to cut other histamines too, but I'm going to start by trying not to eat yuge dairy at night.

Breakfast:  Coffee

It may be that I should eat something.  I wasn't as focused before lunch.

Lunch:  Grilled cheese sandwich with cheddar and swiss, Progresso beef barley soup, pretzels


I think I have one slice of the bread left, the "artisan white" I bought a while ago for some food project, maybe it was grilled cheese idk.  Really good bread but won't get again anytime soon I'm sure.  I'd eat the canned soup more often if it didn't have so many trash ingredients.

Dinner:  3 eggs sunnyside, 2 sausage patties, hash browns, avocado, 24 oz Miller Lite, pretzels


Finished the pretzels before dinner, won't buy again.  Ate too much, so it goes.   Hoping for lots of good digestion before bedtime.

Exercise:  Nope.  Pleased that my leg hasn't been notably painful for a couple days, may be okay.  Will test with a walk soon, I need to get going to be in shape for golf season.

Ugh.  Woke up about 4:00 with a headache and even though I "slept" until almost 9:00 I got very little additional sleep.  Neither the bed nor the recliner worked to get me back to zzzs.  Add in the fact that I just don't feel great today of course I'm sitting here saying please don't get it.

I had work ambitions today that aren't happening.   I would downgrade all the way to no ambitions but my TV is refusing to turn on for some reason (no, it's not the remote) so I'll be spending some time troubleshooting that.

Breakfast:  2 eggs over medium, 2 strips bacon, 2 slices artisan white bread w butter, avocado, glass of whole milk, orange juice, coffee


Cleaned up the OJ from a couple weeks ago, decided to have some milk for extra vitamin D.  Thought about buying some vitamin D enhanced OJ at the store but ended up passing.  I did get some free grapefruits for extra vitamin C though.

Lunch:  Yellow rice with ham, Sprite, Snickers brownie bar


The rice is quite the comfort food and the addition of ham gives it at least a little redeeming value.  It might be fun to kick it up even futher with some sauteed celery and onion, or who knows what else.

Dinner:  Taco salad with al pastor pork, mexican coke, Hudsonvile salted caramel brownie ice cream


Dependably good.  It had been a while.

Exercise:  Nope.  Yesterday sure tired me out though.

Thank goodness for weekends.  Did nothing last night, slept in this morning, worked on a redecorating project and a few other chores.

It didn't really improve my eating, but that's not a surprise.  I need to clean out the fridge, clean up the kitchen and otherwise be ready for a better week this week.  Just eat at home, dummy.

Breakfast:  2x McD egg mcmuffins, Dr. Pepper

Lunch:  Freddy's patty melt, fries w sauce, Dr. Pepper

Turned out pretty good.  A bit salty.

Exercise:  Not really.  Moved furniture, quite a bit of walking due to shopping and stuff, but nothing dedicated.

Another week begins.  The weekend was too short.  Didn't feel great last night, felt fine this morning, felt a little off after lunch, feel mostly OK tonight.  It was a busy but not very productive day.

Lunch:  CFA 2x spicy chicken, medium waffle fries, diet Dr Pepper, brownie

Snack:  Club crackers

Remembered that I had a box of these, ate some which my stomach was not unhappy about.

Dinner:  Meatloaf sandwich w swiss, mayo and a bit of ketchup on grilled white bread, Pringles sour cream and onion chips, Hudsonville mint chip ice cream


Calorific.  The chips were lousy and a waste of calories (and a buck), would not get again.  Tasty otherwise.  At least two more meatloaf meals left too.

Glass And Other Things Appreciation

Not long before I went to bed last night I had a bottle of Topo Chico sparkling water.  I picked one up randomly a while back on impulse and decided that it was a good time to have it.  As I finished it I couldn't help but think how much I liked drinking it out of the substantial glass bottle.  It was a flashback to my youth when soda was commonly sold in glass bottles.  And aluminium cans, sure, but in glass not plastic.  Plastic 2Ls became common some time in there, but I can still remember 8 packs of returnable glass, 1 liter bottles of 7 Up, that sort of thing.  When it comes to carbonated beverages, glass > can >>>>>>>> plastic.  I get why they use plastic and I'm a cheap ass myself, but I do still love the glass.

Anyway, it's another day.  Yesterday I pulled the foam topper off my mattress and remade the bed with an old comforter as a "topper".  Looking to add just a bit of softness to the hyper-firm mattress while hopefully ease the feeling that I'm breathing in something my body really does not like during sleep.  I think describing it as a burning lung sensation is far too harsh, but I have definitely felt something  unpleasant when I lie there that I don't elsewhere.  So we'll try this.  Night one was good, I slept easily and through the night with minimal snoring.

A minor jump on the scale yesterday, no surprise given the pile of carbs, late eating, modest activity and the system is a little backed up this morning.  No worries.

Breakfast:  Leftover buttermilk pancakes w butter and maple syrup, OM thick cut bacon, coffee


Bacon a bit overdone to my liking and I never put the pancakes in for long enough.  So only 8.5/10.

Lunch:  Leftover pizza



Just ate it cold.  Didn't eat all of it.  Just not a great effort.  Particularly disappointing because I used different yeast with a March expiry instead of what I've been using.  Guess I'll be hungry come dinnertime.

Dinner:  Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, Culver's concrete mixer with salted caramel and peanut butter cups

Forgot to take a picture.  Made the dinner, turned out well and I have several meals worth of leftovers.

Exercise:  Nope.  Only modestly active too.

That Other Resistance

TGIS.  Not as catchy as TGIF but maybe even more of a relief.  I need a day off.  Ambitions are modest.

Saw an inforgraphic on twitter the other day that caught my attention.  It pictured a few different signs of insulin resistance, including one which I had never really thought of before -- being hungry just after eating.  I've definitely experienced that.  I've always attributed it to just a defect in how my stomach communicates satiety to my brain, but perhaps there is something more to it, that it's insulin driven.  Interesting.  To me, anyway.

Anyway, a good start to today -- got to bed early again and this time I actually put down the phone (a dismal habit I must break) at a relatively reasonable 10:30.  Woke up about 5:00 and was actually awake.  No dozing, no obvious sleep deficit.  I haven't exactly been a ball of fire (it's now 7:00) but I have managed to get through the shower, emptied the dishwasher and prepped breakfast to cook.  Oh, and snoring was nice and limited last night for once.  I wonder if being done eating earlier had something to do with that.  No love from the scale but no surprise since I ate well and was not active yesterday.

Breakfast:  Buttermilk pancakes with butter and maple syrup, sausage, coffee


Oh man was this good.  I picked up a tip a while back to let the batter sit for a bit to "let the buttermilk work its magic" and doing so makes it so easy to use.  Just have to keep the ladlefulls scant ... which I always forget.

Lunch:  Vigo yellow rice with diced ham.  


Tasty but of course way too much.  This is the one meal of the weekend I didn't really have nailed down in advance.

Dinner:  Detroit style pizza with pepperoni, keto meatballs and onion.  12 oz All Day IPA


Tried a different recipe, did not like it as much.  Still edible, still ate way too much.  I will say the sauce was better and it cooked with a lot less drama due to the tomatoes being drained (?).  It was nice having no splatters to fight.

Might take a break from the Detroit style next weekend and try making a stuffed crust pizza.

Exercise:  Nope.  And only moderately active too.  Weight will be up tomorrow.

It's always weird that January 15 is a tax payment deadline.  It's not close to anything else!  Which would be good, except income is always down and expenses up during the holidays.  Bah.

Nothing much else of note.  Glad it is Friday.

Today's tweak was on one of them I put some Meijer veggie cream cheese between the tortillas.  Result was kinda subtle but I liked it.  Will try again, and not only because I still have 7/8ths of a container of cream cheese on hand.

Dinner:  2 eggs, 2 sausage, hash browns, 24 oz All Day IPA


Sending out the work week in style.  I'm loving this breakfast for dinner kick.  Debating making some popcorn too, though I did have a lot of hash browns so mebbe I shouldn't.

Exercise:  Nope.  Leg is about the same, no active pain but the occasional reminder that it's not right.  Still not pushing it.  At least I haven't been limping today.  We'll see how active I can be this weekend.

Well there you go.  I mention how it would be nice to not have to get up so often in the night and for once I make it (more or less) to wakeup.  Speaking it into existence.  Now, I just need to get back to less snoring.  Got a change in mind and obviously less fat would be helpful.

Anyway, glad we're getting closer to the weekend.  Definitely felt this morning like it should be Friday and I'm vaguely irked that it is not.

Breakfast:  3 slices Kraft deli deluxe american cheese, coffee


Cleaning up a mostly depleted package, two slices left for tomorrow.

Lunch:  Tacos, dill pickle


Same prep as previous w lettuce, sour cream, a little cheese and fire sauce.  I'm getting better at this, the last couple days I've had these they have been really good.

Dinner:  2 eggs, 5 strips thick cut bacon, hash browns, avocado, 24 oz All Day IPA


Exquisite.

Exercise:  Nope.  Not quite as positive on the leg today, though it's more annoyance than active pain.  Of course I'm not pushing it at all.

There is only one thing not to like about seeing ten pounds of purely-bad-diet-induced water weight vanish almost as soon as you even half assedly pay attention to your diet -- you actually have to get rid of that water, which meant getting up an extra time last night.  Ugh.  I well remember the days when I could actually sleep through the night.  Getting old sucks.

Anyway, another OK day.  Not great, not awful.  But far better than the last couple months!

Breakfast:  2 slices extra sharp cheddar cheese, coffee


Remembered the photo today.  Ate at 9 something, I may as well just eat at home if I'm not going to hold out longer than that.

Lunch:  Keto meatballs with thousand island dressing, Claussen half dill pickle


Made the meatballs on Monday, they turned out quite good - 1/3 italian sausage, 1/3 CF ground beef, 1/3 CF ground beef with heart.  The dressing isn't ideal, just a bit of mayo with some Simply Heinz ketchup (which of course has sugar).  It went well with the meatballs though, something I picked up from a low carb cookbook years ago.  Have several more meals of these in the freezer.

Dinner:  2 eggs, 5 strips thick cut bacon, hash browns, medium avocado, 12 oz Miller Lite, 12 oz All Day IPA


So good.  I go back and forth whether I like bacon or sausage best with the GOAT, tonight bacon was the clear winner.  This was a lot of food, with the extra bacon and more hash browns than I thought were left in the bag.  Oops.  No regrets though as it was 10/10 delicious.

Exercise:  Nope.  Leg continues to feel better, though not 100%.  Hopefully will be more active this weekend.

Quiet day and that's a good thing.  Did stay up too late last night so I did not make any progress toward shifting my schedule in the right direction.  Need to start working on that, getting up this late is not good.

Waited until 9:30 to eat these, felt decent about that decision.  Going to stretch morning food and not eat until hungry (or lunch, whichever comes first).  Forgot to take a photo.

Lunch:  Tacos, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, fire sauce.


Standard stuff.  Good today.

Dinner:  2 eggs sunny side up, 2 sausage patties, hash browns, medium avocado, 24 oz Miller Lite


Same meal, done to perfection.  Quite hungry this evening.  Might have to think about some popcorn too.

Exercise:  Nope, although definite improvement with the knee/leg.  Not nearly as much pain today.

Okay.  Sluggish this morning but let's do this.  At least let's do somewhat better.

Breakfast:  Cabot seriously sharp cheddar cheese, coffee


Leftover from NYD scalloped potatoes.  Ate more than I planned, the danger of having food around when I'm not on my food meds.  On the plus side I wasn't too hungry come lunchtime.

Lunch:  Tacos w cheddar, lettuce and sour cream


Used a little too much water when reheating the meat, washed out the seasoning some.  Oh well, still fine.

Dinner:  2 eggs sunny side up, 2 sausage patties, hash browns, medium avocado.  24 oz Miller Lite.  Also ended up eating 2 slices of thick cut bacon and a homemade keto meatball (small).  And a couple mini jelly beans.


Tasty as always.  Busy cooking night for a weeknight, made meatballs, taco meat and a package of bacon.  I should be in good shape for protein this week.

Exercise:  Nope.  Leg hurting pretty bad today.  Going to try a few days of rest before seeing a doc.  Good news is that it feels better this evening than it did this morning.

Despite All That

Weird start to the day.  Okay, not that weird.  Woke up at 4:45 for the usual reason, but atypically I was actually awake, rested, alert, whatever.  Took care of that and hit the recliner, it took a good 20 minutes to get back to sleep.  Woke up at 9:00 when a neighbor's dog went off.  Guess I needed extra sleep, though I certainly felt much worse after getting it.  It's taken until almost 11:00 to get through the shower and have a first cup of coffee.  TGIS, I guess.  Snoring was also apparently horrible, though that's not a surprise due to eating lots and late.

And despite all that plus no exercise the scale didn't jump.  A sign that I'm way too fat, sure, but still a relief.  Let's hope I can get adequately prepped for the week today.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Lunch:  McD 2x cheeseburger, fries, Dr. Pepper

Really, this was breakfast, since it was before noon.

Snack:  TB bacon club chalupa, 2x beef burrito, Sprite, chili cheese fritos, baby ruth

Dinner:  Leftover pepperoni detroit style pizza, haagen dazs chocolate choc chip ice cream


Okay enough foolishness for now.

Exercise:  Nope.  Will be a bit, I managed to hyperextend my bum knee and it's hurting.  Walking any distance is probably a bad idea, I did limp around the grocery store and that was enough.

Turns out that I wasn't remotely ready for the week and especially on the food front.  I thought I was in pretty good shape with some leftovers and a few ideas of what I would eat ... and I ate none of it.  Instead it was fast food and pizza all day every day.  Oh and lots of soda too.

Got a plan for next week, we'll see if it comes off.

Breakfast:  2 eggs sunny side up, hash browns, 2 sausage patties, coffee

Kept the browns reasonable.

Lunch:  Twinburger, fries, chicken rice soup, a few chips with salsa con queso, maple nut goodies, Diet Dr. Pepper

Tried the diet doctor, it was not terrible for diet.

Dinner:  Detroit style pizza with pepperoni, Culvers concrete mixer w reeses and salted caramel


Turned out good.  First try with the new pan.

Again very glad that it's a weekend day, though things are a bit more normal.  Woke up at a more reasonable 7:30, though it did take a while to get going.  I have a million things on the to-do list today, much of which is wishful thinking, but I do hope to get some things checked off.

Things are gradually taking shape around the house.   I have been spending too much money on my redecorating project, but c'est la vie.  A few parts of it will wait for someday but for some key items it's worth it to just get it done and pay for it later.

One thing that's on  the list for today is some time at the office ... which may or may not happen.  It needs to, but getting myself there on weekends has been hard.   So I have some significant trepidation about tomorrow is going to go.

Breakfast:  Chex mix and coffee

Nothing ambitious.  Cleaned up the mix.

Lunch:  McRib, fries, Dr. Pepper, McDouble

On the go.

Dinner:  Pepperoni and ham thin crust pizza, Sprite

Wow am I messed up.  Stayed up too late watching a football game I didn't really care about, struggled to sleep and felt awful this morning.  But for two very urgent trips to flush liquid I might still be sleeping.  As it was I slept until nearly 11:00.  I just don't do that.  And it's immediately thrown an ambitious plan for the day for a complete loop.   We'll see how much I can scale it back.

Also, I realize that I have a lot of crap food on hand to eat up.  Gulp.

Breakfast:  Leftover sausage strata, orange juice, coffee, chex mix


Ate about half of this.  It was way too much.

Lunch:  Freddy's patty melt, fries, Dr. Pepper

Snack:  Chex mix, Sprite

Dinner:  CFA spicy chicken sandwich, chocolate milkshake

Exercise:  Was active including lifting and moving stuff, kinda counts.

Hooray, no more 2020.  Very happy about that.  It went out fine, though, a relaxing evening at home with a pizza and a bottle of sparkling wine.

I have been wildly off track with the eating, though today's number is inflated by the timing.  I'm pretty serious about eating more at home this year so I think I'll see some progress during the dull months of January, February and March.  We'll see how COVID factors into that.

Incidentally, I do not believe in starting resolutions on January 1, so nothing great coming up today or through the weekend for that matter.  It would be nice to post accurately so that my folly can be laid bare, though.

Breakfast:  Sausage strata, orange juice, coffee

Lunch:  Leftover deluxe pizza, Sprite.  Also had a bit of banana leftover from cooking.


Good stuff.  I'm sure I'll get it again at some point, but it may be a while.

Also, I had a little homemade chex mix from the batch I made today.  No wheat chex in this batch and I killed off the box of rice chex too.  I should have just thrown in the last cup or two of corn chex since that's all I have left lol.

Dinner:  Ham, scalloped potatoes, corn, buttermilk rolls with butter, Jello with strawberries and bananas


Traditional new year's meal in our family.  All good.

Exercise:  Nope.
