Resurgent Hunger

Monday, March 7, 2016

Hungry tonight.  Inhaled dinner.  Still hungry.  Drank a pint of chocolate milk.  Still not satisfied.  Grr.  I should be able to tough it out.

Breakfast:  2 Bob Evans sausage patties, 2 slices american cheese, coffee

Lazy man's breakfast
Too lazy even to open and slice the pepper jack.

Lunch:  Chunky beef with country vegetables soup, ham and cheese sandwiches, 1 oz raisins

A very beefy soup it was
The bread was still good the second day.  I am probably going to mix up another batch tonight, this time going to try the let it rise for a couple hours then stick it in the fridge method.  Tomorrow night I really should bake some and also make a batch of soup.

Dinner:  4 mexican style tacos with cheese, 16 oz chocolate milk

Out of picture:  HOT SAUCES
The problem really is pretty obvious.  No veggies for bulk!  I really should cut down to 2 tacos (if I'm going to eat tacos on dollar taco night, which I probablyyyy am) and have a nice big salad too.  I just like meat and cheese and yummy carbs too much.  Oh, and I was quite hungry so I ate pronto.  Really should break that habit.

Drank both remaining servings of the chocolate milk, a delicious but expensive treat.  Now gone.

Exercise:  Nope.  Planned to work on apartment clean out but had a really bad allergy flareup at the end of the day so I decided to just head home instead.  Some hot sauce helped clear things up a bit, as did some fresh air, but I'm definitely not 100% as I write this.

Screwball

Sunday, March 6, 2016

Just when you think I'm going to zig, I zag.  Or zug.  Something like that anyway.

Breakfast:  French toast with real maple syrup, 2 eggs scrambled, 3 strips bacon, coffee

Not diet-friendly but quite delicious
Yum.  Used up the last of last week's white bread and some milk.  Went easy on the syrup but obviously still a carb bomb.  A darned tasty one.  Also, you know I just don't love scrambled eggs.  I much prefer them over easy or over medium with hash browns to mix them with.

Lunch:  Chef salad with HVR avocado dressing, about half of a half size loaf of homemade bread with butter

Less cheese, more cuke
I couldn't quite finish the salad, it was quite large!  As for the bread, this was the first time, I think, that I have made the famous NYT no knead bread.  I made a half-size loaf.  It didn't get a lot of rise, but it was still quite tasty.

Bonus bread pic!

It's a thing of beauty, even though it's FAR from perfect.
Love that crust!
Dinner:  2 ham sandwiches with butter, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato on a potato roll, quite a few Lays potato chips, blueberries and bananas.

No photo, was guesting.

Dessert:  A glass of Hilhof Dairy chocolate milk

Exercise:  A couple more hours of junk hauling.  Counting it.

A super carby day with lots of bread and more sugar than I'd like.  And still it wasn't horrible.  No snacking, no out of pocket expense.  I'll probably hit dollar taco night tomorrow because I have lots of work to do, but we'll see.

Saturday, March 5, 2016

Well There's That And Then Some

Saturday, March 5, 2016

Not a bad day today.  Got some things done, got some movement in and ate some good food.

Breakfast:  2 eggs over medium, 3 strips bacon, Alexia hash browns in butter, coffee.

Bacon?  Nailed it.
Delicious as always.  Something didn't quite agree with me, but at least it was quickly remedied.

Lunch:    Chef salad with Hidden Valley avocado dressing

Salad mix, tomato, cuke, ham, american cheese
Enjoyed this quite a bit, actually.  I should eat more salads.  I used up some sliced American cheese rather than opening a package of shredded cheese.  Love me some cheese.

Snack:  Burger King grilled hot dog

This was the best thing I've had from BK in years
This was actually pretty good.  At $2.11, it wasn't a particularly great value but it was above average in taste.  And it was the perfect size to tide me over until a late dinner.

Dinner:  Grass fed NY strip steak, mashed potatoes, peas

Sorry no extreme meat closeups
Delicious.  Did the steak sous vide then seared it on the stove.  Quantity wise this was a bit much - steak was ~ 7 oz and as always I did more potatoes than I should have.  Oh well.

Dessert:  Hilhof Dairy chocolate milk.

What a delicious treat.  Yum.

Exercise:  About 2 1/2 hours of apartment cleanout, junk hauling mostly.  I'm counting it.

All in all pretty good.  I probably could have lived without the hot dog and the chocolate milk was a splurge.  I bought a quart, so I'll have it a couple times this week, hopefully as a nice reward for a hard working day with ample exercise.

Not Sure If Cracked

Friday, March 4, 2016

End of a long work week.  More work on the horizon this weekend, alas.  But it will be without the pressure of as many deadlines, at least.

I stopped and got groceries and ran another errand after work.  Stayed late to begin with so I didn't make it home until 7:45.  By then I was starving and I sure didn't buy anything speedy ... I was going to have a homemade pizza and salad.  I didn't have the patience.

Breakfast:  2 Bob Evans sausage patties, some pepper jack cheese, coffee

no, I can't think of a way to make this look interesting.
Edible and again I was not hungry before lunchtime.

Lunch:  Homemade beef vegetable soup, grilled cheese sandwich, 1 oz raisins

Last of the homemade soup.  Next time, chicken noodle.
Solid as always, though I was hungry by the end of the day.

Dinner:  Chicken burrito, chips and salsa

Not pictured:  HOT SAUCE
Pretty good.  The burrito was mostly chicken, with a few beans, some onion and cilantro.  Mostly chicken.  Chips were quite good, I never have them since I always get takeout.

Exercise:  Nope.  Sigh.

All in all a decent day.  I did spend too much at the store as well as buying dinner, but I'm pretty pleased.  If I had exercised this would have been a solid B kind of day.

Variety, Needed

Thursday, March 3, 2016

Feeling a bit in a rut tonight.  I eat a lot of the same things.  Which isn't bad, really, but it does seem like I should try to mix it up a little.  Food for thought and apropos since I'll probably hit the grocery store tomorrow night.

Breakfast:  2 Bob Evans sausage patties, pepper jack cheese, coffee

Not sure what I'd have with this.
I contemplated adding something, but couldn't come up with any real good ideas.  I guess a pure fat and protein breakfast isn't a bad thing.  I certainly don't seem to be overly hungry.

Lunch:  Homemade beef vegetable soup, Ham and cheese on white toast, 1 oz raisins

Toasted, not grilled
I ran out of straight butter so I didn't grill my ham and cheese sandwich.  Too bad, it wasn't as good this way.  Still a satisfying lunch.

Dinner:  2 eggs over medium, 4 strips bacon, Alexia hash browns in butter

Relative fail?
Not my finest effort - the bacon was a bit singed and I should have used a bigger pan for the hash browns.  Still delicious.  Downside, too many carbs and I'm hungry again before bedtime.

Exercise:  45 minutes legs and arms.   Hard.

A pretty successful day.  Needed more veggies and a walk, but otherwise quite pleased.

Home Style

Wednesday, March 2, 2016

Well, I have to consider today something of a success.  I ate all meals at home, with stuff I had on hand.  Of course the latter isn't anything special, but it is kind of nice, no money left the pocket.  Now I'm out of butter and low on many other things so I will need to hit the store, but I'm happy.  Now if I had only gotten in some exercise.  Oh well, can't have it all some days.

Breakfast:  2 Bob Evans sausage patties, a little pepper jack cheese, 1 medium organic avocado, coffee

Missed the peak avocado window by a half day or so, oh well.
I really need to get moving earlier so that I can enjoy my coffee instead of drinking half a mug and running out the door.

Lunch:  Grilled ham and cheese sandwich, bowl of homemade beef vegetable soup, 1 oz raisins

Not my finest batch of soup ever but not bad
It's been a long time since I've had raisins.  I bought some a while back when I was thinking about making a sauce, but I never did.  There were quite a few in that one ounce box!

Dinner:  2 eggs over medium, 4 strips John Morrell bacon, Alexia hash browns.

Breakfast, again it's what's for dinner.  Yum.
Light on butter because I was running low.  Such a tasty meal, especially when kicked up with hot sauce.

Exercise:  Nope.  Sigh.  Too icy is my excuse.  Lame.

Overall feeling pretty positive though.  No snacking.  A little hungry here and there but hunger is okay in reasonable doses!  If I were dishing out grades I'd give today about a B-.  Too many carbs, not enough veggies (better tho) and no exercise.

In Which We Give Thanks For A New Month

Tuesday, March 1, 2016

Let's be honest, February sucked.  And it's going to be crazy busy for the next who knows how long.  But let's see if I can at least eat at home a lot more.  Say no to fast food.  That sort of thing.

Breakfast:  English muffin, 2 Bob Evans sausage patties, 2 slices american cheese, coffee

Not the most inspiring photo, is it?

Last of the english muffins.  They do make breakfast easy to handle.  I bought some more of the sausage today -- it's a terrible value and contains things like MSG but it's very easy.

Lunch:  Chunky old fashioned vegetable beef soup, grilled ham and cheese sandwich

Picked up a little ham to add to the sandwich.  Still about
half a loaf of bread to go.
Also bought some more canned soup.  It turned out that I had time tonight to make soup, so we'll see how that turns out.  Nice to have backup and at 99 cents it's dirt cheap.  Now if it just didn't have those "ingredients".  Like sugar or corn syrup.  Come on.  It's SOUP.

Dinner:  Hamburger gravy on mashed potatoes, peas

Hey look, it's a green vegetable!
This was too much food, not to mention too much work.  Next time I'll just throw the cooked hamburger on there and call it good.  Maybe add some hot sauce.  No point in making gravy.

Exercise:  45 minutes shoulders and arms.  Worked HARD.

Not a total win today -- way too much starch, heavy on the dairy.  But it's a start.  Of something.
