Missing Sleep So Much

Being a decrepit old man sucks.  And nothing frustrates me more than the fact that I cannot get a good, solid night of sleep.  Last night, I went to bed at a reasonable time, just before 10:00.  Woke up at 12:30 with a delightful combination of needing to use the bathroom, back pain, and leg cramps.  Everything hurt.  Fortunately it resolved quickly and I went back to sleep ... until 4:15 when more cramping got me.  Not as easy to get back to sleep that time, ended up moving to the recliner and dozing for an hour between 6:00 and 7:00.  I need to be less fat, less inflamed and retaining a lot less liquid.  Recovery from this surgery is going to be hell.

Breakfast:  Home bread and butter, coffee

Again.

Lunch:   Deluxe sub

After 3:00.

Dinner:  TB 2x chipotle chx burrito, crispy chicken taco.  Masa tortilla chips w guac.  Mint chip ice cream

Thought today was the start of the Volcano menu, no sign of it though.  Oh well.  Ordered a sample pack of the Masa chips (no seed oil, fried in tallow).  Quite good, though they are crazy expensive.

Exercise:  Nope, still not possible.  I'd say the back is about 50% recovered, but still twinges with some movements.

At the end of the day the back is feeling somewhat better but clearly not close to 100% normal.  No major improvement this morning, though a hot shower felt good.  Seen a little improvement since then.  Hoping for more relief tomorrow.

Lunch:  McD 2x QPC, mcchick, vanilla cone

Had errands to run and short on time.

Dinner:  Frozen deluxe pizza, mint chip ice cream, home bread and butter

Slow Starts and Storms

Slow start to the day, dozy.  Got up at 5, moved to the recliner and went back to sleep.  Didn't get up until 8:00, which is unfortunate as I have a million things to do today.  There is a good chance of some storms this afternoon, which, frankly, wouldn't be all bad.  We need the rain and I should work not golf.

Breakfast:  McD 2x sausage mcmuffin, hash brown, apple fritter.  Coffee

Needed to move the car, paired it with a breakfast run.  Going to clean out and organize the fridge shortly, I have lots of food, I need to be more prepared to cook it.

Lunch:  Ribeye


I meant to have this for dinner last night, but instead I had it for lunch.  Have half left for tomorrow's lunch, I think I'll have a steak sandwich.

Also:  3x TB chipotle chix burrito (later)

Dinner:  Brats/hot dog w MR, potato salad, green salad, strawberries and vanilla ice cream

Anyway, another pleasant night of sleep where I didn't wake until after 6:00.  I'm a big fan of that, it's been a rare thing of late.  So I celebrate when it happens.  Still don't have a lot of pep but I won't until after the procedure and rehab.

Breakfast:  Sausage mcmuffin, hash brown, coffee

Late breakfast after a meeting and a blood draw.

Lunch:  Lentils, grilled cheese

Dinner:  Dominos bklyn pep sausage, parm bread bites, SF choc pudding

Father's Day.  Always an enjoyable day.  Grateful for mine.

Predictable results after abysmal eating yesterday.  I think rice bloats me like nothing else, but add a vat of seed oil and other crap and yeesh.  

Breakfast:  3 eggs scrambled with peppers and onions, cheese, sour cream and picante sauce, 2 sausage patties, hash browns in avo oil and butter.  Coffee


Pretty tasty, though obv a lot much.

Lunch:  2x McDoubles.  Had a 16 oz Mich Ultra after golf

Yup.

Dinner:  Home cheeseburger, pasta salad, chips, strawberry shortcake w ice cream

Tasty.  Party food.

Exercise:  18 holes with cart, not much extra walking

Really hoping to recapture some pep.

I definitely need a go-to takeout order for nights like last night.  What I got was a bit much and a bit off, plus I chose it in large part due to a coupon.  Maybe I should just default to tacos.

Anyway, not the best night of sleep, up too late, felt notably bad when I got up.  Fortunately a lot of it cleared right up, but coughing isn't an ideal start to the day.

Breakfast:  Ham and swiss sandwich, coffee


Went whole hog since I had one slice and the crust left.

Lunch:  Soup, 2 slices of pepperoni pizza


Since I had no bread for a sandwich I decided to try the local pizza place's lunch slice deal.  Not bad.  And the soup was from one of the best batches I have ever made, so it was delightful overall.

Dinner:  Taco bowl (seasoned ground beef, Bush's southwest zest beans, Vigo avocado lime rice, Pace picante sauce, cheddar, guac), 12 oz All Day IPA


I made the reluctant call to cook and I'm glad I did.  Turned out pretty decent.

Exercise:  Nope.

Asking For Clearance

Another day.  I do feel somewhat better, though clearly not 100%.  Lungs are not clear.  But I'm far more functional than I was on Monday.

Unrelated, I have seemingly disposed of some water, feeling a little leaner and the scale was kind again despite the big sandwich for dinner and no exercise due to the rain.  All good.  I even slept straight through until after 5:00 this morning!  More than six hours is incredible.

Breakfast:  Half ham and swiss sandwich, coffee


Yup.  Not sure if this is worth continuing, I was still rather hungry by late morning.

Lunch:  Soup, grilled cheese


Same as yesterday, one slice less in the sandwich.  I also found a jar or two of soup from an older batch in the freezer so I'll be able to get through tomorrow at least with the same menu.  

Dinner:  2x Wendy's doubles, SF chocolate pudding

Best way to get me to crack?  Keep me at work past 6:30.  So not a perfect day with the buns and mayo, stupid seed oils.

Smoothing Out Rough Spots

Still not healthy, though I guess I do feel a little better today.  Appeared that I had a fever last evening but it was gone this morning.  Nothing outrageous, just another thing making life unpleasant.

Sleep was a little smoother.  First wakeup was before midnight.  Ugh.  There were a couple others, too.  But I was never awake for more than a half hour or so before falling back to sleep.  Didn't do the math but I think I probably managed seven hours in all.  As a result I'm tired today but not exhausted.  Ready for a post-lunch nap that isn't coming though.

Got rid of some extra water thanks to a decent day of eating.  Still would like to lose a chunk of weight before surgery.

Breakfast:  Half ham and cheese sandwich, coffee


One slice bread, butted, one slice cheese, some deli ham.  It was something.  Can't say it was real satiety provoking but I would not expect it to be.

Lunch:  Soup, grilled cheese


Yup.  One less slice of cheese since I had one for breakfast.

Dinner:  Italian sub

Meh.

Exercise:  Nope.  Rained out.

I hate being sick.  I managed to stop the drainage pretty well but still have a cough and today I just generally feel like crap.  Hopefully it'll be better tomorrow.

Decided this morning that I'm going back to 3MAD for a while.  Just a little breakfast, but I think for now it's better.  Once I'm healthy and rehabbed I may well revisit.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Soup, grilled cheese


Yup.  Realized just now, as I'm finishing almost the last of this batch, that I didn't throw a bay leaf in for the simmer.  I feel so ... defeated.

Dinner:  2x mexican, 2x american tacos w added guac and Pace picante sauce, SF butterscotch pudding



Decided to jazz up the tacos a bit.  Worked better with the mexican style but tasty either way.

Sleep should not take up so much of my posts, but it seems like I'm doomed to keep posting about it since every night it's something new.

Held up better than expected yesterday given the lack of sleep the night before, but I still went to bed by 9:30.  Managed this time to sleep until almost 4:00, then I was able to get back to sleep around 5:00 and it lasted until past 7:00.  By my math that should be about eight hours, though it wasn't super high quality.  When I woke up my throat was swollen almost entirely closed, presumably due to drainage from the sinuses though they didn't seem to be particularly fussed.  A few hours later things are pretty well back to normal, though it has settled in the chest and that's not quite clear yet.   It's always something.

Anyway, given the rough start not much has happened yet this morning.  Taking it easy.

Breakfast:  Lazy bagels with cream cheese, coffee


Might be the end of the run for now.

Lunch:  Leftover deluxe pizza, grilled cheese, chips and onion dip


Modest quantities for once.  And laziness worked to my benefit, didn't want to leave to go get anything so I settled on the grilled cheese.  Good thing I got groceries yesterday.

Dinner:   Chicken enchilada, rice, chips and salsa, cupcake and ice cream


Birthday party food.

Exercise:  Nope.  Rained out, which was fine with me.  Needed a day off.

Why Is Sleep So Hard

Ridiculous.  I went to bed around 10, not that unusual.  I woke up at 1:30.  And I could NOT get back to sleep.  Felt like crap but was not able to sleep.  I got most of an hour between 5:30 and 6:30, but that was it.  So frustrating.

Otherwise, I got through today better than I thought I would.  Still in poor condition, but that isn't going to change until after upcoming surgery and rehab.

Breakfast:  Standard pre-golf breakfast out.


Good as always.

Lunch:  ~ 24 oz Coors Light

Post-golf.

Dinner:  Deluxe pizza


Good as always.  Hopefully I have kept the quantity in check sufficiently that it doesn't delay bedtime.

Later:  Hot fudge sundae with hard serve.  Will miss these.  Bad habit but very tasty.

Exercise:  18 holes with cart, minimal extra walking.

Not much pep.  Did not push it.
