All Out Pretty Much

Saturday, April 30, 2022

I know.  TGIS.  I said it again.  Needed it.

Going to be a lousy eating day.  Oh well.

Breakfast:  2 eggs, 3 strips bacon, hash browns, raisin toast w homemade jam, coffee

Standard pre-golf breakfast out

Lunch:  12 oz All Day Vaca, deluxe sub

Merely very good.  A tiny fraction short of the usual incredibly elite sandwich.  But very very good.

Snack:  Chips and onion dip

Oy.

Dinner:  Domino's thin crust pep ham green olive

Darned deal got me again.

Exercise:  9 holes with cart.  Rained out at the turn.  Not enough walking.

Positive Thinking I Guess

Friday, April 29, 2022

At least there are two good things today, it's Friday and it's been a good week for shedding water weight.  I have a social function tonight that I am not exactly excited about but I'll make it through.  Need to do lots of stuff this weekend, we'll see how far I get.

Low snore score last night and it felt like I slept OK.  I'm surprised the scale was down after I added a big serving of popcorn to my already substantial dinner, but no way am I complaining.  All pretty positive.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Ham soup, toast, cottage cheese, Cabot seriously sharp cheddar

Cleanup.  Finished off everything (I threw two soups in the freezer yesterday to test that out, I've been reluctant to try it given the cream but I've read some stuff that suggests that cream freezes OK).

Dinner:  Beef, mushrooms, potatoes, carrots, salad with some kind of dressing and fruit, 24 oz Coors Lite

Event food.  it was okay.

Also:  TB beef and chipotle chicken burritos

Fatter than the typical $2 burritos.

Exercise:  Nope.

Beigeday

Thursday, April 28, 2022

Maybe just a hair less aggravated today.  But not much.  Did get a decent amount of sleep last night and it's never a bad thing to get rid of some more water.  We'll see how the rest of the day unfolds.

On the food front, it is and will continue to be a very beige day.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Ham soup, toast, cottage cheese, cabot extra sharp cheddar

Just different soup.  Made a batch last night to use up some stuff.  Soup is okay, but not exceptional.  It'll work and that's a good thing because I have four more servings in the fridge...

Dinner:  Ham soup, 12 oz All Day IPA, mixed nuts, Nick's triple chocolate, popcorn with butter

Annoying urge to eat tonight.

Exercise:  Nope.  See yesterday's complaint.

Abandon Plan

 Thursday, April 27, 2022

So frustrated right now.  Just completely frustrated.  I feel like I had developed a good plan.  Come home, eat a modest dinner, clean up, go to bed early.  Get up early, walk, get to the office an hour early and devote that time each day to a particular set of tasks.  It all made perfect sense.

Except neither my body nor work are going to allow that.

The body side is mostly just annoying.  I have been tired lately, which is probably more stress-induced than anything else.  I have not been able to push through to get myself up.  I have been somewhat successful at going to bed early, though less so at getting to sleep.  But mornings have been a complete and utter FAIL.

On the work side, I'm staring into the abyss.  I have so much more to do than I have time and energy to handle.  Burnout is real and it is severe, but even when I push through that I fall further and further behind.  I think I'll work weekends but when I do the hangover effect into the following week is brutal.  But I have to do this stuff.  No question about it.  I have to work more, harder and efficiently.  Somehow.

And what is going to have to give is the beautiful plan, which made so much sense.  Tripped by the body then guillotined by the office.  Instead I'll be going back to work in the evenings and on the weekends (though I won't give up golf season for reasons) and pushing things as hard as I can.  Late nights and not enough sleep.  Hopefully I can still eat decently.

The one positive thing I can say is that I let go of much water last night.  And I was much more comfortable when it was time to sleep having eaten less.  Need to keep that up.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Soup, toast, cottage cheese, Cabot seriously sharp cheddar cheese

Repeat.  Still good.

Dinner:  Lentils, 12 oz All Day IPA, mixed nuts, sugar free chocolate pudding w unsweetened coconut

Hey, it worked yesterday right?  All good stuff.

Exercise:  LOL NO dammit.

Let's Try Resting Up

Tuesday, April 26, 2022

A radical idea I know but I went to bed relatively early last night.  Maybe I should say very early.  I just didn't go to sleep right away -- need to break that habit -- but it was still relatively early.  I wasn't quite as dozy and was much less fatigued this morning as a result.  I would still like to get into a dependable routine, but life sure makes that hard.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Soup, toast, cottage cheese, a couple little slices of Cabot seriously sharp cheddar

Remembered the cheese when cleaning out my fridge yesterday and it sounded good so I had a couple thin slices.  One of my favorite cheeses and you don't need a lot to get enjoyment.

Dinner:  Lentils, 12 oz All Day IPA, mixed nuts, sugar free chocolate pudding w unsweetened coconut

New batch of the lentils (sausage lentil "soup").  Tasty as always.  It is entirely possible that I will need to give up the lentils

Exercise:  Nope.  Too much sleep.

And Another One

Monday, April 25, 2022

Poor discipline this weekend.  Sad.

Not ready for another Monday and that's with having an unexpectedly free afternoon yesterday.  So it goes.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Soup, toast, cottage cheese

Standard.  New batch of soup is good.

Dinner:  2 tacos mexican style, 2 american style, 12 oz Yuengling, a few Cheese Kurls, lemon angel food bars

Cleaned up the weekend's remaining junk.  At least the stuff that I got into.  Doh.

Exercise:  Nope.  Schedule still off.

Pizza Price

Sunday, April 24, 2022

Not enough walking yesterday to "earn" that pizza.  Not that I should eat pizza anyway, and especially not that much pizza, but I ate it and today I pay for it.  On the scale anyway.  That's the pizza price.

Forecast for this afternoon looks grim, which is too bad as we have a time at a nice course and I'd like to get out again.  We'll see about that.  In the mean time, it's time to make the soup.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Hamburger vegetable soup, toast, lemon angel food bars

New batch of soup.  As always, it's better after it's been frozen.  Oh well.   Also made the angel food bars and had to taste test them.  Not bad.  Complete junk of course.

Snack:  Cheez Kurls

Speaking of junk.

Dinner:  Home tacos american style, applesauce, doritos, lemon bars w vanilla ice cream, 12 oz Miller Lite

Sunday dinners.

Exercise:  Nope.  Golf scratched and thank goodness, miserable out there this afternoon.

Stepped Off

Saturday, April 23, 2022

TGIS.  Again.  So glad and it doesn't hurt one bit that today is the first truly nice day we've had this spring.  First day of 70 degrees in six months.  And it's even pushing 80.  Just a perfect, low humidity, nice breeze, weekend spring day.

Breakfast:  2 eggs over medium, 3 strips bacon, hash browns, raisin toast w strawberry jam, coffee, homemade bread ends w butter

Standard pre-golf breakfast out returns for another year.  I had a couple bread ends before I left since I sliced up the loaves I baked last night.  At least I got that cooking task accomplished.

Lunch:  12 oz Miller Lite

Post golf.

Dinner:  Pizza with sausage, onion and green pepper

Umm.  Meh, I guess?  I didn't order extra cheese, this was regular.  And in general, it just didn't all come together.  Second time I've tried this place and the first was better.  I think they're too busy for their oven.  So I'll probably wait a while before ordering again.  Several other options and of course home pizza.

As usual I ate WAY too effing much.  Idiot.  At least it was a little earlier than usual.

Exercise:  18 holes w cart sorta cart path only.  Only racked up 5200 steps/2.5 miles though which is a little weird.  But whatever, it was nice to be outside all day.

Overfill

Friday, April 22, 2022

I need to eat less dinner.  A pretty simple thought but it's the truth.  I eat too much when I get home, I eat too late and my body doesn't have enough time to process it before I want to go to sleep.  Time to dial it back.  Also think I'm going to just end the Nick's experiment.

Last night was a prime example, I was still working on processing stuff when I woke up about 2:00.  Uncomfortable.  Pretty sure it messed with my sleep and gave me a high snore score.  Do not want.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Lentils, remaining Tostitos with jalapeno verde salsa

The midday meal is probably going to get simplified too.

Dinner:  Pizza Hut thin pep ham pork beef, animal crackers

Uhh.

Exercise:  Nope.  Tired, sleepy, groggy.

Up One

Thursday, April 21, 2022

Just marking time, trying to get through to the weekend.  It's hard.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:   Deluxe sub

Was at work until 8:00 last night so no bread was baked.  I was passing by the place that makes the sub at lunch time (it's about 20 minutes away) and I caved.  No regrets, it was terrific.  I'm sure I'll be up another pound tomorrow.

Dinner:  Taco bowl, Tostitos, jalapeno verde salsa, 12 oz All Day IPA, Nick's cookie dough 'ice cream'

All pretty good.  Tostitos are about third tier tortilla chips tho.

Exercise:  Nope.  Woke up at 3:00 to pouring rain, knew right then I wasn't going out.  Was still rainy at 5:00.

Nes Day

Wednesday, April 20, 2022

Happy to be halfway through the week.  Really, really looking forward to the upcoming weekend.

Going to try again tonight to make bread and soup, we'll see.  It's hard when you don't get home until 6:30 and want to get ready for bed at 9:00 ... not enough hours in the day.  But at least this time I think I'm all prepared.

Not surprised to see a small gain for yesterday, definitely ate a bit much.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Sausage lentil soup, bread w butter

Going to start referring to this dish just as 'lentils', since I prepare it the same way every time.  The bread was Saturday's failed home pizza crust, tossed in a pan and baked last night.  Turned out just fine as bread.

Dinner:  Domino's thin pep ham sausage, 12 oz Yuengling, Nick's mint chip

Didn't get home until 8.  Was hungry.  No bread or soupmaking tonight.

Exercise:  Nope.  Time to get cracking on that.

Baking Time Cooking Time

Tuesday, April 19, 2022

Phew.  Time for more normal life.  Need to start it off, hopefully, by making soup and bread tonight.  I have dough that's been hanging out in the fridge as well as the soup supplies.  The only thing that has been lacking is time.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Sausage lentil soup, potato roll w butter, cottage cheese, parmesan ranch chips

I should clean up the rolls tonight at dinner, the chips are done, time for a couple good days to recover from the damage.

Dinner:  Leftover beef curry with rice, ham sandwiches (leftover ham and butter on potato rolls), 12 oz All Day IPA, mixed nuts, Nick's rocky road 'ice cream'

Pretty good stuff.

Rocky Fjord is very good.  I'd say it's my third favorite so far after triple chocolate and mint chip.

Exercise:  Nope.  Miserable out there this morning.  It is, however, supposed to warm up by the weekend.

End Of That

Monday, April 18, 2022

Glad that's over.  It's been a rough stretch.  And I'll take a modest gain for yesterday thank you.

Breakfast:   Coffee

Yup

Lunch:  Lentils with extra sausage, potato roll w butter, salt and vinegar chips

Pretty standard stuff, other than cleaning up the chips.  Stupid chips.

Dinner:  Tonkatsu beef curry w white rice, 1 pc spicy tuna roll, salad w dressing, 24 oz Coors Lite

Dinner meeting at a japanese/sushi place.  I ordered randomly and what I got was delicious.

Also:  CFA spicy, frosted lemonade, parmesan ranch chips

The appetite, it was endless.

Exercise:  Nope.  Snowed this morning.  Stupid weather.

Did It Again Then Undid It

Sunday, April 17, 2022
Easter Sunday

It happened again.  Awake and up at 2:30.  Except this time after an hour or so I was able to fall back asleep in the recliner and get up at a much more reasonable hour.  Definitely got eight hours, nice benefit to going to bed about 9:00.

Small bump on the scale, not a huge surprise.  I did eat a bit less than usual (only just over half the pizza) but it was still a bit much, a lot bad and a bit late.  And I wasn't active.  At least after tomorrow I should move to more of a regular work and life schedule.  And it may actually warm up a little -- it's below freezing here at lunch time and it was 54 degrees in my office this morning.  Brrr.

Will be up again tomorrow due to Easter Dinner.  C'est la vie.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.  Extra coffee.  For warmth.

Lunch:  Leftover frozen pizza, leftover sausage strata

It was a lot of food and it was fine.

Snack:  Salt and vinegar chips

Dinner:  Ham, scalloped potatoes, corn, rolls with butter, pineapple, 12 oz Miller Lite, cookie with ice cream, assorted Easter treats

Easter dinner with the family.  Ate WAY too much.

Exercise:  Nope.

A Different and Unusual Kind of Stupid

 Saturday, April 16, 2022

TGIS.  Of course.  It just does not need to be this early.  Seriously.  Woke up before 2:30 and have not had any inclination to go back to sleep.  Got up after a while and made a sausage strata for lunches this weekend.  Which I had planned to do, but not, you know, until 7:00 or 8:00 or something.  It obviously will not hurt it a bit to have the extra time in the fridge, I'm just befuddled by cooking at 4:00 a.m.

It's stupid.

Scale was up slightly, not a surprise after pizza, not enough sleep, eating too much and too late and not walking this morning.  Oddly enough my belly was flatter though.  Which was not a bad thing.  I can see the broad outline of a normal human body now, just still have more piles of fat to shed to reveal the details.

In random happy news I went to Walgreens this afternoon and they have started carrying DPZS ... and had it on sale, 3x12packs for $10.  I have plenty of reward dollars to burn, so if they're going to stock it and run good sales occasionally I will be buying my soda there.  I'm now set for a couple months since I drink less than one a day.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup

Lunch:  Sausage strata, small bowl of lentils.  Had some mixed nuts mid-afternoon

Had to try the new batch, this is what I had left after filling my jars.  Strata was fine, I only had 2 slices of bread and my scaled recipe called for 4 so it was a little more liquidy than usual.  Still tastes good and I have lunch for tomorrow all set.

Dinner:  Home Run Inn meat lovers pizza, 12 oz All Day IPA, Nick's triple chocolate 'ice cream'

FAIL.  I tried to make a home pizza but the dough had other ideas.  Finally just gave up and went with the frozen pizza.

Yesterday's strawberry Nick's was good but not great.  It's in the tier of I'll eat it and even enjoy it but I won't buy it or choose it very often at least when the elite tier is available.  The triple choc is the best.

Exercise:  Nope.  Talked myself out of it.  I did manage to doze for another hour about 5:30 instead.

Body Shock Possibly

Friday, April 15, 2022

Current working theory is that adding something new and different (Nick's) has jogged my body into breaking out of the same old rut and dumping a little more water.  At least that's the only semi-logical explanation I have at this point for a string of good days.  About which I am NOT complaining.

Speaking of good days, I woke up at 4:45.  Not grudgingly, but actually awake.  Got up, wasn't dozy and eventually even pushed myself out the door for a walk.  How about that.  Good things.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Sausage lentil soup, toast, cottage cheese

Later than usual.  A bit heavy on the cottage cheese, this was too much food.

Dinner:  Domino's thin crust pep ham onion, 12 oz Yuengling, Nick's strawberry 'ice cream'

I'm addicted to cheap chain pizza.  Darn that rolling $3 discount that you can pair with the $7.99 carryout deal.  Also bought all the remaining flavors of Nick's at Walmart - I skipped buying the peanut butter cup variety at Meijer as it looked like it probably had three times as many carbs.  Too bad, I love PB Cup ice cream.  They also had two different versions of the triple chocolate, one with 20 more calories and apparently a very different carb count.  I'm sure it's all fuzzy math but I hope the lower carb version is the new one...

Exercise:  Walk, 1.8 miles, 41 minutes.  Slow.  Never got loose, lots of grumbling from knees, ankles and achilles.  But no serious pain.  Just resistance.  Windy which probably didn't help with the time.  But I'll take it.  Also got a chance to measure with my new pedometer which seemed to be right on with the distance at 1.79 miles.  3850 steps seemed a bit low but I guess it doesn't really matter if the distance is correct.

Whoop

Thursday, April 14, 2022

Almost there.  Just a few more days.  It's not going fast but the time is if that makes any sense.  Probably does not.

Once again not disappointed by the scale.  Probably won't be able to say the same tomorrow, but we'll see.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Jimmy Johns vito, salt & vinegar chips

Stupid work.  At least I remembered to take a picture.

Dinner:  Home tacos, 12 oz All Day IPA, mixed nuts, Nick's mint chip "ice cream"

Same as yesterday except a different flavor of Nick's.  I have to say that last night's triple chocolate was my favorite one yet.  I'll have to restock after tonight and there are a few more varieties at Wally World that I can check out.

Exercise:  Nope.

Dairy Ban

Wednesday, April 13, 2022

I seriously should give a trial to no dairy.  Don't get me wrong, I love the stuff, which is why I eat so much of it.  But I really do think that it causes sinus inflammation and who knows what else.  Really the only way to find out if I have problems with it is to cut it out.  But it's probably not happening, at least not soon.  But it is something that's on my mind.

Another positive morning on the scale.   A little extra water went away, but that's the only notable factor I can think of.  I certainly haven't been the least bit active and I've eaten a bit more than usual.  No binges, but I'm not skipping meals, that's for sure.  Anyway, I'm pleased and would like to see some consistency in my effort and results given that I've been locked into this range really since the first of the year or even before that.  Time for another jog down on the scale please.

The thing is that I seem to have learned what it takes to keep my weight at this level, further improvements will require additional changes.  I may have to do things I don't especially want to do, like reduce some obvious carbs, in addition to things I'd like to do but will struggle with like walking consistently.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Sausage lentil soup, grilled cheese

Only swiss today and I'm now out of sliced cheese.  May buy more, if I can eat a grilled cheese like I have this week and still lose I am down with that.  We'll see.

Dinner:  Home tacos, 12 oz All Day IPA, mixed nuts

Tacos were beef, cheddar cheese and salsa on 'zero net carb' tortillas.  They were fine, just a little liquidy.

Also:  Nick's triple chocolate 'ice cream'.

Exercise:  Nope.  No excuse either.  Just tired.  Once I get past Monday I really should try and focus on getting 8 hours of sleep and still getting up early enough to walk.

You Betcha Ja

Tuesday, April 12, 2022

No ill effects noted from the "swedish light" ice cream.  In fact I was pleasantly surprised to feel pretty lean this morning and even though I steeled myself against disappointment I didn't get any.  There was actually a nice drop despite eating quite a bit, no exercise, no excessive processing of prior food, etc.  I'm still stuck in this same range but I do think that if I can tolerate the 'ice cream' that will be helpful.   Planning on picking up a couple other flavors to try.

Got a little extra sleep this morning and I'll credit most of the little boost in pep to that, but it sure didn't hurt to be in a good mood after weigh in.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Yup.

Lunch:  Sausage lentil soup, grilled cheese

Pretty standard.  I made lentils this weekend but didn't take the time to make a regular soup.  So this is what I'll be having for lunch and I'll have to eat other stuff for dinners.

Dinner:  Spicy bacony beans with cheddar cheese, 12 oz All Day IPA, Realgood pork mini enchiladas, mixed nuts

Impulse bought the enchiladas at Walmart, looked for a clean (i.e. no soy) meatball without success and these were nearby.  Something like 2g carb, no grain.  They were quite good.

Also:  Nick's cherry chip 'ice cream'.  Pretty good.  Almost as good as the mint chip.

Exercise:  Nope.  Extra sleep.  I'll worry about it after the season is over on Monday.
