In Need of More Descriptive Words, Epic Just Not Cutting It

Sunday, February 24, 2019

There surely are more levels of fail above and beyond epic fail.  I mean epic is, well, epic.  But surely there is catastrophic fail.   Biblical fail.  Others.

Why am I thinking about this?  Oh, no reason.

The Fascinating Reading

Saturday, February 23, 2019

At least it's a weekend.  TGIS.

Read a fascinating article yesterday, which I think I've seen before, some dietician saying that pizza for breakfast is a better choice than cereal.  Of course they bag on meat toppings and (correctly) white flour crust, but at least there is an acknowledgement that protein and fat are more satisfying than a bowl of highly processed carbs.

Anyway, it got me thinking .. leftover pizza?  What's that?

Sigh.

Breakfast:  1 egg over medium in butter, 4 strips thick cut bacon, 1 slice sourdough, Alexia hash browns in butter, 1 medium avocado, coffee

A nice deluxe breakfast.  The bread didn't add anything, if I'm having hash browns it's superfluous.

Lunch:  A can of V-8 juice

I decided to not have lunch per se since breakfast was a little late and I'd rather just have an early dinner.

Dinner:  Beef sausage, mashed potatoes with butter/chicken broth, homemade gravy

Decent.  I did a poor job of mashing the potatoes but so it goes.  How about those LOL plating skills though?  Yikes.

Exercise:  Nope.

You know, I could stay about this weight indefinitely.  All I have to do is eat like I have been and I'll be the same fat dude forever.

Sigh.

I've posted this one before, will add pic if I remember.  Edit: I did.

Same as last weeks, forgot to snap a pic.  So here's a stock photo from a previous week.  They really nailed it this time tho.

Sandwich Fever

Wednesday, February 20, 2019

On the plus side, I talked myself out of pizza for dinner.  On the negative side, I was still very hungry and so I got way too much food at the sandwich shop.  Darned delicious food.  I am stuffed but once again would have been perfectly happy to keep eating because of the pleasure.

Unrelated, the snorelab app gave me a good score last night, said I didn't snore much at all after the first few minutes of sleep. No idea why.  It didn't feel like a great night's sleep, I woke up several times and so ... I dunno.  As usual.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Lunch:  2 eggs over medium, hash browns, italian sausage link w peppers and onions, raisin toast

Oops, forgot to take a photo until mostly done.  Same thing I've had a couple times lately.

Dinner:  Ham, salami, cheese sub, garlic bread w cheese and pizza sauce, rice krispy treat

I couldn't believe they had a RKT, they're usually sold out when I stop in.  It's annoying being me sometimes.  At least the sub isn't quite as enormous as the one from the other day.

Downward, Dawg

Tuesday, February 19, 2019

Bummed out today for no discernable reason.  I have been starting at the wall for most of the afternoon so I may as well catch up here.

Breakfast:  4 strips thick cut bacon

Leftovers from the weekend.  I oven baked what I had left and stuck it in the fridge, turned out good and easy to reheat.

Lunch:  Beef vegetable soup, Wasa light rye crackers

This was not my favorite batch.  At least I used up the Wasas.

Snack:  ~ 2 oz extra sharp cheddar

Dinner:  Ham, salami and cheese grinder with LTM

A big-ass sandwich.  Still would like to know why I'm not ready to be done eating when I'm done eating.  I certainly had enough food in my belly.  It's aggravating.

Exercise:  Nope.  Maybe to bed early tonight?

Non-holiday Holidays

Monday, February 18, 2019

I live in a place where we don't get many holidays.  LOL at taking off on MLK Day, Presidents Day, Good Friday, Columbus Day ... not happening.  Which is regrettable because I really could have used a holiday today.

At least I slept OK and my back feels somewhat better this morning.  It sure didn't when I tried to sleep, moving around on the bed was quite unpleasant.  I'm hoping that the improvement means that it was just muscular and the kinks will be unwound.

With yesterday's sloth and bingeing I'm pretty bloated today.  Need to get going on some walking.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Lunch:  2 Culvers double three cheese butterburgers with mustard and pickle

My hack from last week failed me ... they put the mustard and pickle on the bottom bun, away from the cheese.  Boo.  Also, if this were a regular special I'd probably eat it a lot.  Solid value.

Dinner:  3 mexican style tacos, 2 american style tacos, all with hot sauce

Mixed it up.  And got an extra taco because hungry.

Exercise:  Nope.

Use The Edit Button Dipwad

Sunday, February 17, 2019

Add a splash of rye whiskey to yesterday's totals.  I don't know if that pushed me over the top or if it was just the excessive dinner but I have to say that I didn't feel great last night.

And even worse this morning.  Slept (badly) in a bad position and my back is letting me know it.  I think it's just muscular rather than being a spine issue but still ... there aren't many things worse than back issues.  The quality of sleep may not have been helped either by my giving a try to Theravent.  Picked up a trial pack and used one of the Lite strips.  It wasn't uncomfortable, but it was different and a bit of an adjustment.  I can't say that it was particularly effective, but then again nothing I've tried has been.

It's going to a weird day.  Birthday party later, so there will be cake.

Breakfast:  2 eggs over medium, 6 strips thick cut bacon, Alexia hash browns in butter large can of V-8 juice, coffee

Bacon was some other premium brand, I forget which.  It was fine.  Finished off a package of the hash browns.  Added a can of V-8.  All good.

Lunch:  Domino's brooklyn style pizza ham, pepperoni and jalapeno

Oops.

Dinner:  Chop suey casserole, rolls with butter, mixed berries, chocolate cake with ice cream

Also:  2 Big Macs, large Dr Pepper

All These Little Words

Saturday, February 16, 2019

TGIS.  I made a lot of dirty dishes today.

Breakfast:  2 eggs over medium, 5 strips Wright thick applewood bacon, some Alexia hash browns in butter, coffee

Been a while since I made the GOAT.  Went very light on hash browns.  It was all good.

Lunch:  Light rye wasa crackers, pepperoni, extra sharp cheddar

I was intending to have soup but it was still frozen solid.  My fridge may be set a shade on the cold side.

Dinner:  Oscar Meyer naturals beef sausage, mashed potatoes, spicy beans

Another fine example of cooking while hungry.  Way too much.  The beans were left over from the batch I made today, just threw them on to use them up.  While good as always they didn't really add anything here.  Also for whatever reason they're better when frozen then reheated.

Exercise:  Nope.  Didn't even leave the house.

Experimental, Emphasis on Mental

Thursday, February 14, 2019

Happy Halfway to March day!

Judging from the crowd at Five Guys tonight a lot of people are celebrating the day by getting fat.

In unrelated, less bitter news, I'm going to declare the hard boiled egg experiment a failure.  Forgot them again this morning.  I'm generally 100% fine not eating breakfast, especially on weekdays.  If I really need something I'm sure I'll have some cheese or cured meat on hand.  That'll do.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Lunch:  Omelet with cheese, bacon, sausage and ham plus sour cream, 2 slices homemade wheat toast with butter

Toast was drennnnnched with butter.  It was impressive. You don't often see that at a restaurant.  Omelet wasn't a stuffed as last time, no surprise as they were about out of breakfast stuff and stopped offering it shortly after I arrived.

Dinner:  Five Guys cheeseburger all the way plus jalapeno, little fries with ketchup

Stellar picture, huh?  It was so busy that every table was taken and I ate in the car.  In the dark.  Good thing I had many napkins.

Anyway, this was nicely discounted so I gave in to temptation.  Not too many regrets.  Oh, and I also ate some light rye Wasa crips which are of course terrible.  But I have them and I'm me.

Exericse:  Nope.

It's Yet Another Weakness

Wednesday, February 13, 2019

Maybe I should have had breakfast today.

Or maybe it wouldn't have made a difference.  I'm just not strong enough when presented with pizza ... or the rare occasion when I pass by CFA.

Sigh.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Lunch:  3 slices pizza (cheese, deluxe, veggie), a cup of lukewarm coffee

I knew I had a catered lunch meeting and (grudgingly) planned on the pizza.  I just didn't truly need that third piece (not pictured).  It sure was good though.  I was able to skip the soda, candy and donuts.

Late PM:  Chick fil a spicy chicken sandwich, 8 pc nuggets

Man, if CFA were convenient I'd eat it way too often.  I eat it way too often as it is.

Dinner:  Spicy beans with bacon, some shredded cheese

Didn't feel the need to bulk them up with more protein.

Exericse:  Nope.

Sausage Armada

Tuesday, February 12, 2019

I didn't really plan to have so much sausage today, that's just how it unfolded.  So it goes.

Anyway, you know how they say you shouldn't grocery shop on an empty stomach?   Why don't they warn you about cooking when hungry?  I made about twice as much dinner as I truly needed because I was ravenous.  It was all I could do to not go for a quick fix.

Breakfast:  Coffee

No time for eggs today.  Even hard boiled ones.

Lunch:  2 eggs over medium, hash browns, italian sausage link with green pepper and onion, raisin toast, coffee

There are the eggs!  Spur of the moment plan and I saw someone eating this and said "gotta have it".  Meal delivered, big time.

Dinner:  Kielbasa, mashed potatoes w/ chicken stock and lots of butter, 1 medium avocado

Clean up night.  I was obviously hungry when cooking.  I tried water as a stopgap and in this instance it really didn't work.  Oh well.  All delicious.

Exercise:  Nope.  Snow and ice today, wind tomorrow.   Ugly, ugly month of weather.

Even Though I Don't Like It That's More Like It

Monday, February 11, 2019

Yep, that lyin scale was probably more accurate today.  Drat.

Stayed up too late so I was slow getting out the door this morning.  No real fatigue though which is nice.  Now if I can just really get into a routine and get more consistent sleep.

Breakfast:  2 hard boiled eggs, coffee

Just because I hard boiled four eggs yesterday so I could eat them for breakfasts.  In reality I'll probably stick with coffee most days.

Lunch:  2 Culvers three cheese double butterburgers with mustard and pickle, minus buns

Special of the day and delicious.  In a "duh" moment I discovered that the pickles keep the cheese away from the top bun so it doesn't stick.  I also discovered that Culver's buns are *heavy*.

Dinner:  4 tacos mexican style plus cheese and hot sauce, 1 medium avocado

Honestly the flavors of the taco overpowered the avocado, even though there was plenty of it.  Lesson learned.  Still tasty.

Exercise: Nope.  Man do I ever need some.  Weather forecast is looking bleak tho.

Lying Scales and Other Liars

Sunday, February 10, 2019

Scales lie.  Mine lies a bunch.

Today was not a repeat of yesterday morning.  I stayed up way too late, ate too much pizza way too late, slept horrrrrribly.  Woke up at 8:30 and still felt bloated.  Took a while to get going.

Anyway, for some reason the scale ticked down.  Liar.  LIES.  I mean, I'm not complaining.  I'm just cranky that I'm so fat that it still goes down after a rough night.

Breakfast:  Avocado toast take two.  Same as yesterday, a bit less butter, a bit more cheese.  Slice sourdough, butter, generous pinch shredded cheese, 1 egg over medium, medium avocado.  Also added a splash of hot sauce.  Coffee.  Lots of coffee.

Exquisite.  Pairs so nicely.  Helps to have a perfectly ripe avocado -- discovering that they hold well in the fridge once ripe was a game changer.  Oh, and yeah, I didn't care about presentation, just diced up the avo and dumped it.  All about that flavor maan.

Lunch:  A little more than a third of a Meijer polish kielbasa ring, 2 slices sourdough with butter, mustard

I got the kielbasa for free on a deal a while ago, decided to crack it open today because why not.  Paired it with bread because it seems like I have an infinite quantity despite just buying a half loaf and I'm all about using things up.  I should freeze the rest since there's still several slices.

Not bad.  I'll eat the rest of the kielbasa tomorrow.

Dinner:  Roast beef, mashed potatoes, carrots, gravy, Grands biscuits with butter

Excessive.

Exercise:  Nope.  Not as active today either.

Faux Millenial

Saturday, February 9, 2019

A weird morning.  I woke up at 5:40, no alarm and felt ... good?  Not tired, not sleepy, no headache, not congested, no aches or pains.  I got up without incident, disposed of some liquid and just relaxed for half an hour or so thinking 'this is nice!'  I didn't do anything special either.

Sleep is weird.  I sure wish this happened more often tho.

Anyway, since it's the weekend and I had time I decided to fix breakfast:  Avocado toast!  I've never had it and really all I know about it is that it's mocked as a very millenial thing and I've seen a brief glimpse of what I assume is AT in a Crapital One commercial.  So yeah, I winged it.  The visual is a bit odd since I flipped the egg to finish it rather than covering it and I very much failed at fanning the avo but really, who cares.  Good times.

In other happy news I have figured out how to more efficiently post photos from my phone and even rotate them with one click.  No more sideways pics!  I hope, anyway.

Breakfast:  1 slice sourdough pan toasted in butter, 1 egg, a generous pinch of shredded cheese, 1 medium avocado.  Coffee

Turned out very good.  Quantity was ample, too.  I may just have this again tomorrow since I have the supplies though the eggs and bread are both pretty old.

Lunch:  Leftover zippy ground beef (~ 5 oz) in an ersatz gravy, mashed potatoes, 2 slices sourdough with butter

Pretty butter intensive, probably why it was so so so good.  Gravy was butter, a bit of flour, chicken stock, beef base.  Just a pat of butter and chicken stock for the potatoes.  Yum.

Is it still lunch when you eat at 4:30?  That avocado toast kept me satisfied a looong time.

Dinner:  Domino's thin crust pepperoni, ham and onion.  2x 12 oz Shiner Bock

Went to a great show, had a couple beers, had pizza after.  Other than the pizza being a bad decision it was a good day.

Exercise:  Nope.  Lots of movement but no true exercise.  Got a lot done around the house.

It's a Simple Solution Really

Friday, February 8, 2019

Want to make a trillion dollars?  I have a foolproof way for you to get insanely rich.  All you have to do is figure out the disconnect between the brain and stomach that afflicts fat people.  The brain says 'I'm getting pleasure, keep eating!''.  The stomach protests 'I'm full yo!'.  In fat people the brain just ignores the stomach.  I don't think that's true in non-fat people.  Sure, there's probably temptation, but the signals sent by the stomach are strong enough that common sense kicks in and they stop eating.

Why am I musing on this?  Oh, you know, just ate too much pizza.  As usual.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Lunch:  Leftover zippy ground beef (~5oz), 3 potatoes mashed with a pat of butter and chicken stock

Hey at least the third potato was really small.  See yesterday for photo.

Dinner:  Pepperoni pizza

Dependably delicious.

Also:  1 square 92% cacao dark chocolate

Exercise:  Nope

Too Many Potato

Thursday, February 7, 2019

Felt just a tiny bit leaner -- okay not the right word, but less bloated isn't quite right either -- this afternoon.  Not a major difference, just a tiny one but yet the kind of small thing that puts a smile on your face.

Probably not going to have a meaningful drop tomorrow, not after having potatoes for both lunch and dinner.  Plus toast at lunch.  Not ideal bob.

I had a can of LaCroix with dinner.  Don't really see a reason to track that -- its water after all -- but this is a full disclosure operation.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Lunch:  Omelet with sausage, onion, green pepper, mushroom, cheese, sausage gravy.  2 slices raisin toast

I know the people that run the place, I need to remember to ask if they use butter or margarine on the toast.  I'm not sure that I'lll like the answer.

Dinner:  ~ 5 oz CF ground sirloin cooked with some seasonings and chipotles in adobo sauce, 3 medium potatotes mashed with a pat of butter and some chicken broth

Very tasty, will eat again.

Also:  A square of 92% cacao dark chocolate

Exercise:  Nope.  More ice overnight.  Tonight it's supposed to flash freeze and be super windy.  About all I can say is that at least I did a lap around Walmart tonight.

The Joys of Early "Validation"

Wednesday, February 6, 2019

I do so enjoy the early stages of reducing the carbs and the sugar and the junk, if only because the scale makes moves downward as you get rid of some excess water.  It's not real, of course, but it is gratifying.

Another day that really wasn't a problem.  I had a psychological urge to eat mid-afternoon but was able to recognize it as non-physical and some nice cold water was what I really needed.  It was too icy to even think about walking -- more coming tonight-- but I wouldn't have done it anyway.  I stayed up too late last night and as a result wanted as much sleep as I could extract this morning.

I did eat the pork rinds last night so that should be added on.  They were pretty good but I probably won't keep them around.

Another rando thought, I think I may plan to eat lunch out (either a burger sans bun or breakfast) and dinner at home for a while.  There will be exceptions -- the occasional taco monday or pizza friday at dinner or lunch at home -- but I think this would be a reasonable balance.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Went dark roast, was pretty wired today for whatever reason.

Lunch:  Omelet with bacon/sausage/ham/cheese/sour cream, 2 slices homemade wheat with butter

A place I don't go that often but which I'm going to put back in the rotation.  This was pricy ($11) but large and good.  I should skip the toast but I do like their homemade wheat and I'm pretty sure they use actual butter.

Dinner:  Spicy bacony beans plus 4 oz diced ham and some shredded cheese

Rotation fail.  Dependably delicious.

Also:  1 square 92% cacao dark chocolate

Just because.  As you might expect the 92% is anything but sweet.

Exercise:  Nope.

Cheesy And Flushed

Tuesday, February 5, 2019

An okay day.  Didn't get out of bed early though I did wake up a few times and certainly could have.  Weak.  A little hungry this afternoon as lunch was a bit light, but not too bad.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Had a second cup later, tried the dark roast version and I may be switching to that.  Will see.

Lunch:  Cheese omelet, 3 strips bacon

I did not get coffee with lunch since I was coffee'd up.

Dinner:  Super bacon spicy beans with some diced ham and shredded mexican cheese blend, can of lime LaCroix.

Hearty and comforting.  Hopefully the cheese bumped the fat content up some, adding ham sure doesn't do it.  If I get the urge to snack I bought a bag of hot and spicy pork rinds.  I'll need to find a better brand in the future, this kind has MSG and a hint of sugar.

Exercise:  Nope.  And not likely tomorrow due to ice in the forecast.

Yeah, That Is My Life

Monday, February 4, 2019

Pathetic. I mean, seriously.  The non-stop binging.  The refusal to exercise at even a basic level.  Taking personal health and just flushing it.  Come ON.

An OK day today, I guess, though it wasn't what I had planned.  Work messed up what I had planned to eat and foiled my trip to the grocery store.  The good news is that I can always eat that stuff tomorrow.

Breakfast:  Coffee

Only one cup instead of two today.  And judging from the calendar it may be a trend.

Lunch:  2 Culvers three cheese double butterburgers with mustard (no bun)

Lost roughly a third of the cheese due to bun stickage but whatever.  A very solid cheeseburger option.

Dinner:  4 tacos mexican style add cheese with hot sauce

Late (for me) dinner and I was kinda hungry.  I shouldn't eat tacos (corn tortillas ftl) but they're good.  And cheap.  And filling.

Exercise:  Nope.  No hope of getting up early and I'm dragging tonight.
