T Minus ~ 0 days
This is the end, my friends. The end of 2015 that is. A year of really really crappy eating.
Breakfast: 2 McDonald's sausage burritos, coffee
Lunch: 1/4 lb burger with LTO and guac, chips, coffee
Dinner: 2 Culvers double deluxe cheeseburgers, a few chips, a few peanut M&Ms. One swig of lemonade.
Exercise: Nope.
And that's a wrap. Yeesh.

T Minus ~ 1 day
Yuck. Unsurprisingly I felt awful after eating this crap.
Breakfast: Taco Bell california crunchwrap, coffee
Lunch: McDonalds 2 cheeseburger meal with Hi C orange, sausage McMuffin
Dinner: Wendys double with cheese, lemonade, triscuits and bar cheese, peanut M&Ms
Exercise: Nope.

T Minus ~ 2 days
Bah. More snow than expected, with a nice layer of ice too. Delayed getting off to work so I have time to sit here and post.
Breakfast: Onion roll with deli turkey, american cheese and mustard. Coffee.
Edible. No picture, didn't bother. I think I took one yesterday and it's the exact same thing. I'll definitely need to not continue with this.
Lunch: Qdoba, the usual bowl. With chips.
Dinner: Can't remember, it may have just been chips and onion dip with lemonade. Yeah.
Exercise: 45 minutes legs and core

About To Get Iced Up
Monday, December 28, 2015
T minus about 3 days
Not too high stress for a Monday but I'm still not excited about being at work. Oh well. To add to the fun there is a forecast of freezing rain, that is going to suck.
Breakfast: Deli turkey and american cheese on an onion roll, coffee
Lunch: McDonalds 2 cheeseburger meal with Hi-C orange, sausage McMuffin ($6.66)
Dinner: Pizza rolls, chips and onion dip, caramel corn, brownie with ice cream
All kinds of garbage. Still have supplies, probably will need to make myself throw some things away. That won't be easy.
Exercise: Nope.

~ T-4 Days
Ahhh. Yesterday was so needed. And I'm not planning on doing too much today, either. I just need to recharge. More sleep would be a good idea -- I stayed up way too late last night -- but I'm not dragging at least not yet.
I have planned out 3 days of meals, going to try to ease into the more regular eating routine in advance of the new year. Of course going by the new year is stupid (and I usually pick January 2 to start any resolutions anyway) but whatever. I'm too cheap to just toss my junk food supplies. It's a failing.
Breakfast: 2 CF eggs fried in a bit of butter, 5 Meijer frozen precooked sausage patties, a small quantity of Alexia hash browns fried in butter, coffee
The sausage patties aren't the greatest but they're okay. Of course they're not just pork and spices, but that's big food for you.
Lunch: 2 grilled cheese sandwiches (white bread, american cheese), can of Chunky Sirloin Burger soup, lemonade
Dinner: Chicken breast, 1.5 ears corn on the cob with butter, a little pineapple and 2 strawberries. Brownies and ice cream for dessert. No photos.
Exercise: Nope. Lazy day.

Holiday Love
Saturday, December 26, 2015
Day Minus 5 or so
It's after 1:00 and I haven't left the house yet. And I love it. After two very busy days of holiday rushing it has been so nice to just kick back, putter and get some things done that needed doing. Still plenty more to do this afternoon -- some dishes, some cleaning, some laundry -- but I have time to tackle them. It's glorious. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good holiday party but there needs to be balance.
Anyway, when you aren't paying attention the holidays result in serious overeating. I'm not sure I can even begin to summarize the binge eating, but there has been a bunch. The reckoning, also known as another serious attempt to fix things, is coming very soon.
Breakfast: 2 eggs fried in butter, 5 strips Meijer bacon pan fried, Alexia hash browns fried in butter, coffee.
I didn't take a picture, but it was the usual. When it's that good, why change, right? I know I should cut out the potatoes, but I am thinking that if I measure and keep it (more) modest I may not eliminate them entirely since I only eat them at home on weekends.
Lunch: 2 grilled cheese sandwiches (white bread, american cheese, fried in butter), can of Chunky Chicken Pot Pie soup, Newman's Own lemonade.
Using some stuff up. The bread and cheese were leftovers from various cooking projects, the soup an impulse buy. It's so hard to beat a really great grilled cheese.
Dinner: Leftover spiral ham, mashed potatoes, carrots, 2 potato rolls with butter, pecan pie with vanilla ice cream.
No photo. Lots of yum. And way, way too much.
Exercise: Nope.
And now, in summary and approximate fashion...
Friday, December 25, 2015
B: Sausage strata, 1/2 grapefruit, banana nut and pumpkin breads with butter, pecan coffee cake, coffee, small orange juice
L: Cheese and crackers, bar cheese
D: Spiral ham, a little turkey, potato rolls with butter, mashed potatoes, carrots, pecan pie with vanilla ice cream, crepe with berry sauce, christmas cookie, a couple pieces of chocolate and a few mixed nuts, 12 oz Labatts blue light, Newman's Own lemonade, decaf coffee
Whew!
Ex: About an hour of golf, walking, plus a bunch of moving around that doesn't count.
Thursday, December 24, 2015
B: 2 eggs fried in butter, hash browns in butter, bacon, coffee
L: Sausage and pepperoni stromboli slices w pizza sauce, crackers and cheese, bar cheese, carrots and ranch, cookies, chocolates, nuts, oh heck I dunno there was more, ate way too much. Peanut M&Ms.
D: Beef tenderloin, french bread w cheese fondue, romaine salad w ranch, 1 glass red wine
Ex: Nope.
Feasted.
I'm not going to try and recreate the previous week, just assume the worst. Lots of Qdoba.

Unexpected Recall
Wednesday, December 16, 2015
I realized this week that for many of the meals I can't remember, if I ate out I would have saved the receipt since I try to track spending. So I don't really have an excuse there...
B: Saltines with american cheese, coffee
Not really sticking to the ribs. I'll probably eat something else.
L: 3 cheeseburgers, 2 small fries. It was dollar day. And I'm a pig.
Snack: Slice of red velvet cake. Someone brought in as a holiday treat.
D: 2 grilled cheese sandwiches (1 with salami too), chips and guac, small glass of lemonade, a couple scoops of ice cream later
Ex: Nope.
Tuesday, December 15, 2015
B: Saltines with american cheese, coffee
L: Qdoba burrito bowl with chips; sausage mcmuffin and chocolate shake
D: Pizza rolls, a few Triscuits, ice cream and almond cookies
Ex: 45 minutes upper body
Monday, December 14, 2015
B: Oatmeal with butter, maple syrup. Coffee
L: Leftover stromboli, 2 culver's single butterburgers with cheese
D: 4 mexican style tacos, ice cream and almond cookies
Ex: Nope.

This weekend will go down as far too short. But so it goes. I finally crashed by 10 last night and slept in this morning. All that walking yesterday will do that.
Breakfast: Breakfast boat, coffee
I decided to try a recipe (concept anyway) from facebook. I winged all the quantities - 2 eggs, a splash of whole milk, 3 strips bacon cooked and crumbled, shredded cheddar and a green onion (green part) mixed up and baked in a hollow-ed out demi baguette. The store only had the multi-grain kind left yesterday so I went with that. 25 minutes at 350. Turned out quite tasty, I especially enjoyed the flavor added by the bit of green onion. It wasn't life changing or anything but it was different and pretty good.
Lunch: 2 hot dogs with bun, chips, salad with ranch, canned peaches. White cake with vanilla ice cream
Birthday party.
Dinner: Sausage stromboli
Made something new. It was quite good. Super calorific though.
Exercise: Nope

That's A Hike
Saturday, December 12, 2015
Phew. After a brutally long week, a breather. Of course I didn't get enough done, not close. But it was a good day none the less. Not in terms of eating - I ate terribly and spent too much money. But I got out and moved, got some fresh air and enjoyed a december round of golf.
Breakfast: A big slab of breakfast lasagna, a few hash browns, coffee. 2 donuts a bit later. ($9.95 + $1.90)
I was going to get huevos rancheros at a place, but they were too busy so I kept walking to another place where this was the special. So good.
"Lunch": Kit kat bar, later 12 oz Miller Lite ($7.00)
Dinner: Qdoba burrito bowl with tequila lime chicken (no chips) ($8.27)
I was pretty hungry and forgot to take a picture. This was a fantastic (and calorie packed) bowl -- half and half on the rice, pinto beans, chicken, both quesos, cheese, sour cream and a big whack of guac. So good.
Dessert: a couple of scoops of ice cream
Dean's Fannie Mae Mint Meltaway, the cadillac of grocery store non-super premium ice creams. On sale this week, doh.
Exercise: Oh yes. I walked to and from breakfast, about 8 blocks each way. 18 holes with cart. And then I walked around the grocery store a bunch lugged in some supplies. I was very, very tired by 7:00 pm.

Slammed
Friday, December 11, 2015 back to Monday, December 7, 2015
Honestly, I didn't keep good track. I did finally get my car back but I didn't have time to get to the grocery store or do any meaningful meal prep so there were a lot of meals out.
Hopefully that will be less of an issue this coming week.

A Most Lovely December Day
Sunday, December 6, 2015
Yesterday wasn't quite as warm as predicted but still very nice. I am hoping for more sunshine today and maybe a couple more degrees of warmth. Not complaining in any way, I'm thrilled to have the snow and cold of winter pushed back. Golf >>> shoveling.
Breakfast: 2 CF eggs fried in butter, 3 Meijer pre-cooked frozen sausage patties, Alexia hash browns in butter, coffee
A fabulous breakfast as always. Out of bacon so I went sausage from the freezer - picked up a box to try a couple weeks ago. It's not bad, but also not great. I'd really like to find some thinner patties -- a now-closed diner nearby used to serve great thin and slightly crisp patties.
Lunch: Leftover sous vide chicken breast, leftover stove top stuffing reheated in a bit of butter and chicken stock, 4 corn tortillas, hot sauce, a bit of avocado dressing
Mad scientist plus clean out the fridge time. To do something different with the last of the leftover chicken and stuffing I made them into tacos. It worked okay but holy carb overload. I tried one with dressing instead of hot sauce but preferred the hot sauce as a condiment.
Snack: Kit Kat bar
Dinner: Hamburger with ketchup, mustard and pickles, chips, tortilla chips, salad with ranch, a couple small sugar cookies
Exercise: 18 holes with cart. Brr.

Long Long Week
Saturday, December 5, 2015
It was a very long week. Lots of work, intense and I had no vehicle. Not good times.
But it's over. It's a beautiful December weekend and I'm thrilled to be able to get outside and enjoy it. Lots of time this morning to get a jump on the laundry, fix a nice breakfast and clean up. Sure I have a million things to do but oh well. I've earned a break.
Breakfast: 2 CF eggs fried in butter, 4 strips CF garlic pepper bacon, Alexia hash browns in butter, coffee
Pretty standard weekend breakfast. I was going to try a recipe I found online for a breakfast bread boat, but no chance to get to the store. So maybe I'll try that next weekend.
"Lunch": I didn't really have lunch. Had a Kit Kat bar (yeah, I know) while golfing and 24 oz Miller Lite afterward. Also had a sleeve of saltines.
Dinner: A big ol' brisket burrito plus chips and guac from a local tex-mex place.
I was too hungry to take a picture. Yeah, that's my story. Delicious.
Dessert: A couple of scoops of Country Fresh triple vanilla ice cream.
Finished off a carton, it was a very modest quantity. If I only ate that much, I could keep ice cream on hand all the time.
Exercise: 18 holes with cart. Felt pretty decent.
Money Spent: About $13.00 for dinner.

So That Obstacle...
Sunday, November 29, 2015
The obstacles to my getting back on track are, of course, largely in my head. It does not help at all that I have been sleeping poorly. Some sinus issues, which thankfully aren't too awful at the moment, but mostly the interrupted sleep of someone who is too fat. I could get tested for sleep apnea again ... or I could just fight through it and lose the weight. Seriously, I used to sleep the sleep of the dead, would black out and then wake up. What I'm getting now sure isn't refreshing.
Anyway, the head thing. I have a hard time not eating the junk I have purchased when I really should be able to let it go. I have a fair amount of said junk. I'll probably eat some of it today, but it really is time to kick it into gear.
Breakfast: Entemann's frosted donuts and a glass of whole milk
Slept in and didn't have the kitchen cleaned up since I'm still playing holiday catchup. That's number one on my to do list for today.
Lunch: 3 Koegel's vienna franks on pretzel dog buns with mustard, ketchup and celery salt
Snack: Chips and onion dip, 2 mini Snickers bars
Dinner: Tacos, and lots of them. Some doritos. Chips and salsa, a slice of banana bread
Exercise: Nope.
Money Spent: None.

A Game Day
Saturday, November 28, 2015
Long day. Traveled to a college football game.
Breakfast: Cracker Barrel sunrise sampler minus the hash brown casserole, coffee
The hash brown casserole was vile, even when they brought me a second piece. The rest of it was mediocre at best. Easily the worst breakfast I have ever had at Cracker Barrel.
Lunch: None. Had a couple fun sized Snickers and 3 Muskateers bars while in traffic after the game
Dinner: Steak n Shake double with cheese, fries, chocolate shake
Other: A bunch of lemon Oreos with a glass of whole milk
Exercise: Lots. Several miles of walking, stadium stairs. Calories were burned. Felt good man.
Money spent: About $6.00 in tips etc. Guesting.

Avoiding BF Like a Boss
Friday, November 27, 2015
Slept in. Sleep schedule is definitely wonky. There are some things I need to adjust and that's very high on the list. Physically feel decent (other than being heavy right now) and I tend to have headaches in the morning when I wake up which I assume is low oxygen. Another thing that will improve if I get it back together.
Lots to do today, but probably not including any Black Friday shopping. Instead, kitchen cleanup, laundry and that sort of thing will be featured prominently.
Breakfast: 2 CF eggs fried in a bit of butter, 3 strips CF garlic pepper bacon, a smaller amount of Alexia hash browns in butter, 1 slice american cheese, coffee, 2 Entemanns chocolate frosted donuts.
Those donuts. Terrible for you but like crack. And I didn't resist when I saw they were $1.99 this week. Derp.
Lunch: McDonald's McDouble and small fries
Just hungry enough to need something. And I did go out shopping in the afternoon.
Dinner: Leftover turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry, crescent rolls with butter. Cocount cream pie and a pecan bar.
Yum.
Also: A few jalapeno Krunchers chips. Bag pretty much gone which is good.
Exercise: Nope, unless you count walking around the stores.
Money Spent: $2.12

I'm grateful today for the abundance that has permitted me to be (very) fat and (mostly) happy. To have never known hunger and barely deprivation is a blessing beyond compare. To say that I am fortunate is to understate things to the nth degree. I am thankful.
I am also privileged to be able to do something about things which are less than ideal. So I really should take another crack at fixing my habits, diet and exercise, so that I can feel better and live longer.
It just won't be today. Or for that matter tomorrow or the rest of the weekend. Doggone these feast holidays.
Breakfast: 2 CF eggs fried in a bit of butter, 4 strips CF garlic pepper bacon, Alexia hash browns fried in butter, coffee, Entemann's frosted chocolate donuts
Lunch: Turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, squash, green bean casserole, crescent rolls, cranberry, fruit salad, mac and cheese, 1/2 of a Bell's winter white beer, pecan bar, coconut cream pie, lemon pie, apple pie, cheesecake.
Whew. I think that's everything.
"Dinner": A couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream with Entemann's donuts
Exercise: Nope
Money spent: $0.00

Not So Much Cash Money
Monday, November 16, 2015
I forgot that I was keeping track of how much I spend on food, so I can start adding that in again too. It's a nice reminder that I need to pay attention. If I mostly eat at home, it's not bad.
Breakfast: Turkey and american cheese sandwich on Koepplinger's Healthy Grains (lol) bread with some butter/olive oil spread, coffee
I will say this, a sandwich is a fast and cheap breakfast. Now if it was only good for me.
Lunch: Leftover macaroni and cheese with 2 slices of leftover bacon added, some Lays potato chips
The mac and cheese really turned out quite well, though this is far more than I needed to eat. Next time, if there is one, I'll portion it out better. I think there will be kind of a next time, I think I'll make it for Thanksgiving.
Dinner:
Exercise: Nope. I almost dragged myself out of bed this morning, but almost doesn't count for much of anything.

Almost Back, Maybe?
Sunday, November 15, 2015
It has been a bumpy year. Two moves later I am finally settled in to my new home and am in a position to start thinking about getting serious about self-improvement again. Six months of eating nearly every single meal out (or via drive thru) produced predictable results. And it was expensive.
This past week I finally came close to my target budget for a week's worth of food, $100. That's a very generous budget for one person, and since I rarely go out for dinner or drinks it should be easily managed. I'm not there yet but last week I finally started passing up easier options to come home and eat something on hand. So progress. It's still way too carb-heavy, but that should improve over time -- excluding Thanksgiving of course.
My scale is still packed away in storage somewhere, not sure when I'll be able to fish it out.
For practice, here is today's LOL diet:
Breakfast: 2 eggs fried in a little butter, 2 Bob Evans pre-cooked sausage patties, some Alexia hash browns cooked in butter, coffee
Snack: Chocolate frosted donut, glass of whole milk
Lunch: Leftover homemade macaroni and cheese
Snack: Snickers bar
Dinner: Chuck roast with gravy, 4 cheese mashed potatoes, carrots, roll with butter, canned peaches
Also: Cheez Kurls (yeah, no idea), glass of lemonade
Exercise: 18 holes with cart
Holy cow that was a lot of food. I don't even want to think how many calories.

Breakfast: 2 eggs over medium, bacon, hash browns, 2 slices raisin toast, coffee ($18.44 for 2 incl tip)
This place doesn't go crazy, so the hash browns aren't over the top. It was okay.
Lunch: Reuben panini, french fries, ketchup, 12 oz Miller Lite ($3.00 for tip)

Dinner: English muffin with cream cheese, 12 oz Shiner Bock
Beer, it's what's for dinner. Cleaning out the fridge some.

Canceled With Regret
Thursday, June 11, 2015
Frustrating day. I had a meeting run way long, resulting in cancellation of my scheduled workout. Not good. At least tomorrow is Friday, I think I will crash early tonight.
Breakfast: 2 slices sharp cheddar, large Tim Hortons coffee ($1.91)
Lunch: Salad ($5.93)
I remembered to take a picture after I had already eaten the cottage cheese. Otherwise, just your basic salad, though I got breaded chicken bites instead of ham cubes.
Dinner: Qdoba burrito bowl ($8.90)
The usual assortment of stuff. The girl making it took my 'light cheese' very literally for once, but I more than made up for it in the queso department...
Edit: Hungry tonight, no idea why. Gong to add some greek yogurt to the totals. (on hand ldo)
Exercise: Nope. Argh.
Total Spent: $16.74. Too much.

Heavily Breaded
Wednesday, June 10, 2015
I guess today has been okay. On the plus side I got a wonderful night of sleep, about 8 hours. Felt pretty good this morning. On the negative, I am not terribly inspired especially with work and to exercise. Oh well, I guess it doesn't all come easy.
Breakfast: 2 slices sharp cheddar, large McDonalds coffee ($1.79)
Had the coffee mid-morning for a change, still tasted good.
Lunch: Omelet with andouille sausage, green pepper, onion and creole sauce, coffee ($9.95 incl tip)
Pretty standard and quite tasty. Now if I can just convince them to make me a breakfast bowl.
Dinner: English muffin with veggie cream cheese, 3 breaded fish filets, some avocado, a slug of V-8, greek yogurt (all on hand)
Not everything is pictured, obviously. I ate the muffin while waiting for the fish -- I had planned to have salad but of course the salad mix I opened this weekend was no longer edible. I ate maybe half of the avocado, it really wasn't ripe all the way through. The fish was delicious but had too much breading. I wonder if there is a "lightly breaded" version available. And I had yogurt for dessert.
Too much starch. I need to get over my dislike of going to the grocery store and get more fresh veggies. I could have made some canned green beans or something, but I didn't. Again, oh well.
Exercise: Nope. Should have!
Total spent: $11.74. Not too bad.

Versus Buffet Take Two?
Tuesday, June 9, 2015
Another day. Posting this a day behind because I forgot to bring my computer home. Oops.
I was looking forward to the dinner buffet tonight because it said it was a gyro buffet. I love gyros. And in the end ... it was just chicken gyros. Boo. Total false advertising. I passed and ate at home.
Breakfast: 2 slices sharp cheddar, large McDonalds coffee ($1.79)
Lunch: Salad ($6.05)
Pre-golf: English muffin with veggie cream cheese (on hand)
Golf: 48 oz Miller Lite ($14.00)
Dinner: Ham/salami sandwich with mustard on sourdough, 1/2 dill pickle, Greek Gods yogurt with raspberry spread. (on hand)
Exercise: 45 minutes mostly core, 9 holes with cart
Total spent: $21.84, a lot but not bad for a golf day.

Sweet Sleep
Monday, June 8, 2015
Ohh, nice. Finally a good night of sleep. I did NOT want to get up this morning. No cramps, no discomfort of any kind, just solid, solid sleep. It was beautiful. Let's see if it continues ... I will not be drinking wine for the time being, I will say that!
Anyway, off to a slow start. Lots to do today but not much enthusiasm. Hopefully it kicks up a couple of notches!
Breakfast: 2 slices sharp cheddar, large Tim Hortons coffee ($1.91).
I forgot to set up the coffee maker and didn't feel like doing it this morning. Oh well.
Lunch: Salad ($6.18).
Late and on the road, stopped at a grocery chain and made a salad. This may become a regular feature. It's not cheap but it's not awful, either - restaurant prices are definitely higher...
Dinner: 4 tacos - 3 mexican style with cheese, 1 american style ($5.30)
Taco Monday. I justify it by noting that I went back to work for a couple hours after picking these up and I didn't get home until after 8:00. A bit much but quite tasty.
Exercise: Nope. Regrettably not. Going to try and get up earlier tomorrow, it would be huge to get a walk in and get that sleep schedule fixed up.
Total Spent: $13.39. I note that I was ~ $50 too high last week, need to cut the coffee and either eat out less or put less food in the fridge. Or both!

Cramp Style
Sunday June 7, 2015
Another annoying night with the cramps. Foot and ankle, 2:30 a.m.. Calf, 3:45 a.m. Calf again 5:45 a.m. And one more time when the alarm went off. Ended up dozing back off, no surprise given that sleep came in such small chunks. Each time it happens I have to get up and walk around - there is no laying there and usually no sitting, too painful.
Some random googling suggests that there is a chance that the wine is a factor. It doesn't seem likely that I have other common issues, particularly dehydration - I drink a lot of water. I finished off the bottle last night, no more wine for a while, let's see if that's potentially a thing. Sulfites may be the issue.
Anyway, today is already kind of screwed up. I have lots to do, and yet I think the weather forecast is for thunderstorms which may mess things up.
Breakfast: English muffin with veggie cream cheese, glass of V-8 juice (on hand)
I didn't eat until almost 10:00 so by then I was thinking something fast. I didn't even make coffee.
Lunch: McDonalds double cheeseburger, small coffee ($2.85)
Went to an open house which made me almost late to golf, so it was this or nothing. I almost went Taco Bell for a cantina bowl but just could not pull the trigger. Of note, felt crappy after eating this.
Also: Sleeve of roasted peanuts (comped)
Didn't remember the weight but the package said 290 calories.
Dinner: Large square of baked spaghetti, 3 slices garlic toast, small salad with thousand island, 16 oz Miller Lite.
FAIL. Terrible menu for me and I didn't show restraint. The good news is that the rest of the day was probably 1,000 calories, so I'm only a few hundred over instead of thousands.
Exercise: 18 holes with cart. Nothing else of note, lazy day.
Total Spent: $2.85. Should have been zero.

The Good Kind of Loose
Saturday, June 6, 2015
A very pleasant feeling this morning. No aches or pains - though I did sleep the last hour through a mild cramp in my foot - and my clothes were a bit looser! Yes! Even small amounts of positive change are super reinforcing.
Speaking of cramps, I've now had them the last two nights. I wonder if there could be any connection to drinking wine? I don't usually see any obvious correlations, so who knows. Might need some more potassium also.
Managed to avoid drinking any beer after golf, which helped with dietary stuff and not spending money!
Breakfast: English muffin with veggie cream cheese (on hand), large McDonalds coffee ($1.79)
I should not eat this every day, but it was quite tasty. I ate it too quickly, I think, because my mind was still in full CONSUME mode after I finished it. But no problem. Ate a little earlier than usual as I needed to be out the door by 7:30, but it held pretty well. I didn't need to eat again until lunch was ready at 2:00.
Lunch: 2 medium eggs fried in a bit of butter, 3 strips Meijer thick sliced bacon, a modest quantity of Alexa hash browns cooked in butter, a slug of V-8 juice and a packet of Taco Bell fire sauce (all on hand).
The new stove is not as powerful as the stove in the old place as the hash browns did not get crispy. I probably could have used less butter as well for the small quantity I made - it wasn't more than a cup. That reminds me, I should find my kitchen scale. Another item missing, also need to find the salt and pepper. This was all just fine though.
Dinner: Grass fed NY Strip Steak, asparagus grilled with a little olive oil (all on hand)
First time I have grilled in a while and the first time ever for asparagus. I was pretty pleased with the results, I think I ate about 6 oz of steak (it was just under 8oz on the package) and almost all of the asparagus.
Also: Planning on drinking the rest of the riesling, so presumably another 2 glasses.
Exercise: 18 holes with cart. I really should locate and start using the regular pedometer, because I don't keep my phone in my pocket when golfing!
Total Spent: $1.79. Win and it could have been zero if I had hooked up the coffee maker.

Friday, June 5, 2015
Settling into the routine. It is not proving to be too difficult, really. I'm eating less breakfast and making better, if not perfect, choices at lunch and dinner. An occasional treat is nice too - a beer, a glass of wine, some fruit, that sort of thing.
Anyway, today's title is based on something that is super weird to me. I went to the grocery store after work and took way too long. I spent quite a while debating what I wanted to get for dinner and could not decide. A rotisserie chicken? Mini meatloaf? Something else? I finally gave up and just decided to have a chef salad using some of the stuff I was buying. Anyway, long story short, I'm famished. I get home, throw stuff in the fridge, quick make dinner. I sit down, eat half of the english muffin with cream cheese and ... I'm satiated. SAY WHAT? I'm never full, at least not anytime close to when I start eating. Never. Well, except yesterday when the same thing happened before I really dug into the eggs.
This is so strange to me, but I sure hope it continues. If I am not hungry and know right away that it will make me uncomfortable to eat a bunch more ... I won't. This would be a revolutionary change. I could eat one slice of pizza instead of five! That sort of thing. If only I knew why!
Breakfast: 2 slices sharp cheddar (on hand), large McDonald's coffee ($1.79)
Standard. I'll hook up the coffee maker this weekend.
Lunch: Omelet with andouille sausage, green pepper, onion, maybe cheese and cajun sauce, coffee ($9.95 incl tip)
Also pretty standard. And good. And hot. Yum
Dinner: Chef salad (salad mix, mushrooms, ham, salami, ranch dressing), 1/2 dill pickle, Aunt Millie's sourdough english muffin toasted with Kraft veggie whipped cream cheese (on hand after spending $41.08 at Meijer)
Oh my goodness, that english muffin was tasty. And I have like five more for the week! Not as many calories as a bagel, I suspect. But very good. As mentioned I couldn't eat the whole salad, I ate maybe half of it. I did eat the dill pickle.
Also: Will have a couple more glasses of wine. 2012 Chateau Ste Michelle reisling, so a little sweet.
Exercise: Nope. Beautiful evening but I didn't get home until after 7:30, made dinner and soon I'll be ready to crash. Not a great week for sleep.
Total spent: $11.64 plus $41.08 at the store, so $52.72. I did buy a dish brush.

Non-Titled

Pretty happy with how things are going. Not perfect, of course. But well enough!
I am really starting to look forward to working diligently on my sleep schedule and getting into a regular walking routine. I know that I cannot fix everything overnight - not even over a few months. But each day I make the necessary effort is one day closer to the end goal.
Breakfast: 2 slices sharp cheddar (on hand), large McDonalds coffee ($1.79)
I didn't quite have enough gusto last night to get the coffee maker cleaned and set up. I do have it unpacked which is progress and I have a fresh can of coffee in the pantry, so it's not like it will take a major effort ... and that will save me several dollars a week if I break the drive thru coffee habit.
Lunch: Gluten-free club wrap, side salad with ranch, coffee ($11.54 incl tip) Oh, and a tiny sample bite of carrot cake
Tried a new gluten free cafe and bakery. They don't have a super extensive menu and I was bummed to see that they stop serving their breakfast options at 11, but ... this was really good! It was today's lunch special. I didn't ask what recipe they used to make the wrap - hopefully it wasn't primarily soy, but it was thin enough that it isn't a big deal. Everything was very fresh and tasty. The ranch was the runniest dressing ever which makes me think they might have made it on site instead of buying Kraft. I'll eat here again!
Dinner: 3 medium CF eggs, scrambled and cooked in a bit of butter, a little shredded cojack cheese, 4 strips Meijer thick sliced bacon, generous glass of low sodium V-8 juice. (all on hand)
While I thought I was hungry when I got home, I couldn't eat all of this. I did eat the bacon - note to self, that's a LOT of bacon, you need less with the thick sliced - but only about half of the eggs. They were good, I was just full. I didn't have any veggies to jazz them up, too bad, so I opened a bottle of V-8 that's been languishing in the fridge for quite a while.
Also: I cooked dinner at home! This is a big deal. I have been eating out, getting take out, pizza, convenience stuff I can eat at home. Tonight I ate real food I cooked. Yes.
I think I will probably crack open a bottle of wine in a bit.
Exercise: 45 minute arm and core. This one felt like work, most exercises were to failure. Less stretching. And can you believe that I forgot for a minute and initially typed "none"??
Total Spent: $13.33. Not unhappy about this. If I can eliminate the coffee in the morning and eat small dinners at home I can eat out quite often for lunch during the week and still hit my budget.

Repeats For Free
Wednesday, June 3, 2015
So far, so good. Not everything is in place yet - my sleep schedule is still a mess, I'm not fixing enough food at home, that sort of thing. But progress is being made. Some progress.
Breakfast: 2 slices sharp cheddar (on hand), medium black Tim Hortons coffee ($1.70)
Deception! I got a flier yesterday that said there would be a $1 special today. Nope. Oh well, they got an extra sixty-four cents from me.
Lunch: Omelet with andouille sausage, green pepper, onion, cajun sauce. Coffee ($9.95 incl tip)
Very tasty and piping hot! I cannot say just how much I love getting piping hot food. It is such a rarity.
Dinner: Qdoba burrito bowl (FREE)
Went with the same combo as yesterday, and I only went back because I knew it would be free thanks to points on my Qdoba card. Yum. A lot of food and a lot of calories.
Also: 16 oz Miller Lite. Last can in the house, from now on I'll try not to keep it on hand. Will still have a couple at the golf course though.
Exercise: Nope. Not real close to getting up early (was up until ~ 1:00 before I slept), had early work to do, being a bum this evening. Too bad, because it's nice out there. Quite sedentary according to phone app also, with < 3000 steps. Yuck.
Total spent: $11.65. Still too much but a lot more like it.

Versus Buffet
Tuesday, June 2, 2015
A second day with a post. This is a positive trend, even if I'm not being perfect.
It really is interesting how quickly I notice improvements. Even as soon as this morning there were some body parts that feel better. Even one day of consciously trying to avoid sugar is helpful. Now if I can just avoid the starches and get rid of some excess fluid that would be outstanding.
Breakfast: 2 slices Kraft big slice sharp cheddar (on hand), large Tim Horton's coffee ($1.91)
Back feeling better means I could easily get food out of the fridge! Now I just need to clean it out, restock a few good things to eat and really push hard to not eat out all the time!
Lunch: A large salad bar salad with lots of ingredients and ranch dressing ($6.58)
Let's see, bad things. Dressing. A little cheese. Umm. Maybe a few too many olives, I dunno. Bacon bits. But lots of good low calorie vegetables and some ham chunks and a little chicken. Vegetables actually sounded good! I decided to do this in anticipation of a bigger dinner - it's buffet night, probably.
Dinner: Qdoba naked burrito, 3 Miller Lites during golf ($8.90 + $11.00)
I couldn't decide what I wanted for dinner, the buffet didn't appeal to me. Finally ended up at Qdoba. Went with rice, pinto beans, shredded beef, fajita veg, queso diablo, pico, hot salsa, light cheese and sour cream, guac. I think that's it! First time trying the shredded beef, I usually get steak. It was pretty good, will get it again.
Exercise: 45 minute core workout - stretching and some light weight exercises, mostly. I've been doing this for a month now, twice a week, and I am actually coming to enjoy it. Also, 9 holes with cart.
Total Spent: $ 28.39 - expensive day!

A Quasi-Successful Day!
Monday, June 1, 2015
It wasn't a clean win but it was pretty good. I'll take it for a start. I was not able to get up this morning to walk, and as it turns out it didn't matter much -- when I did get up I had back pain (very unusual) and barely was able to hobble around getting ready for work. Maybe tomorrow.
My scale is packed away in a storage unit somewhere where I won't be seeing it any time soon, so I won't have any weigh ins for the foreseeable future. Oh well, it's easy to judge how it's going based on how the clothes fit!
Breakfast: Large black McDonalds coffee. ($1.79)
I would have had to bend over to access the fridge for food, so I elected to skip it. It wasn't a big deal, though I probably shouldn't drink coffee on an empty stomach.
Lunch: 3 eggs over medium, italian sausage link with green peppers and onions, coffee ($9 incl tip)
My old favorite place closed, so no more avocado bacon omelet. This was a decent choice. It's better with hash browns obviously but oh well, smart eating is smart eating.
Dinner: 4 tacos - 3 mexican style with ground beef, onion, cilantro plus cheese, 1 american style. ($5.30)
I had to work late so I just got take out. Obviously I'm hoping to cut way back on this, but for today it was OK. And yes, that many corn tortillas is way too much starch!
Also: 16 oz Miller Lite. (on hand)
Exercise: Nope. Phone step count of 4419, lightly active. Tomorrow will be better.
Total Spent: $16.09

Here we go again. I am ready to give it another shot. Tired of the fatness, the aches and pains, the lousy sleep. Ready to be healthy, energetic and a lot slimmer. Let's do this.

A Veneer Of Success
Tuesday, March 10, 2015
Well. I would say that yesterday was not a complete washout, but it wasn't the greatest of successes. I lost control a bit come evening and I never did get in any meaningful exercise. However I did manage to avoid the sugar - other than sugar alcohol anyway - and that's a good thing.
Very tired again this morning although not sleepy. I didn't really snooze, just rested. Physically feeling decent, certainly a bit better than yesterday. Irked with being fat.
Breakfast: ~ 2 oz salami, large McDonalds coffee
I'm going to call this a win. Even though buying coffee is dumb and expensive when I have a (dirty) coffeemaker at home, I managed to avoid adding any kind of food. I grabbed something on my way out the door and successfully avoided unnecessary carbs. Yay.
Lunch:
Dinner:
Exercise: Nope. Schedule is still way off. WAY off.

Quitting Sugar Is The Worst
Monday, March 9, 2015
Trying again. We'll see how it goes. Today got off to a so-so start. I was ready to go to bed early last night but got called away. I did sleep well but had no chance of getting up when the alarm went off at 5:00, so I did not get to launch a full assault as hoped. Daylight savings time is no fun. I'm not sure what I'm going to have time to do, if anything, for exercise today. Maybe I can move around some this evening, not sure. I also didn't get in a weighing, which is probably for the best. Very fat. Yuck.
Anyway, I successfully navigated the next hurdle, which was eating something from home rather than hitting a drive thru. Success! Feels good man. And lunch was perfectly fine too, I held the toast. Still got hash browns but one thing at a time. For a while this may prove to be a regular lunch. Dinner is shaping up to be late and laden with guacamole.
As for the title, yeah, I don't like the feeling I get when I quit sugar. But the payoff is very worth it, so here I go. I'll put up with a few days of symptoms.
Breakfast: ~ 2 oz some kind of italian dry salami, coffee
New kind to me. It was kind of bland. Oh well, I'll eat it anyway. And I was actually hungry come lunch time.
Lunch: 2 eggs over medium, 2 sausage links, hash browns with green peppers and onion.
Very good! I like to mix this all up and it's fantastic. I wonder if I might even have enough stuff on hand at home to re-create this instead of going out for it. Probably do.
Dinner: 8 oz Meijer guacamole with Santitas tortilla chips, some shredded mexican cheese, 2 x 16 oz hard cider
Cleaned up the guac. Should have just had it straight but picked up some chips. Lost a bit of control there. Had two ciders. So it goes. I have 2 ciders left, but other bad stuff is pretty minimal. Hopefully I can keep it in check.
Exercise: Nope.

Unstuck For a Moment
Tuesday, January 27, 2015
Among the sea of ennui, the annals of apathy, the general malaise at least something a little good happened this morning. I fell asleep on the couch last night which made for an early awakening. After dawdling for a good while, I finally talked myself into going for a short walk. And you know what? I'm glad I did. It felt good. Physically, I'm in wretched shape. Ground zero. But the fresh cold air and a nice easy pace got my blood moving a little bit and it just felt ... good.
Of course that didn't carry on to me seizing the day or anything - I ended up dozing off afterward and killing any positive metabolism impact. But I don't care. I went for a walk and I liked it.
Breakfast: 2 McDonalds breakfast burritos, coffee
I am so ready to be done with the house selling process. Not that I would be creating a lot of dishes with my usual breakfast or anything, it's more the mental block that pushes me into driving through for something as simple as coffee.
Lunch:
Dinner:
Exercise: Yes! A walk. I downloaded a pedometer app for my phone the other day and it said that I covered 1.0 mile, ~ 2200 steps, in 21 minutes of activity. I'll take it. And maybe I'll check at the end of the day for overall activity though my expectations are low.

Saturday, January 17, 2015
Yeah, things could be going better. I really need to get focused and DO THIS.

Sugg
Wednesday January 14, 2015
Sigh. Still not much traction.
Breakfast: Nope. Had to be somewhere early and knew that I'd be tied up at lunch, so ...
Brunch: Sausage/egg skillet, pancakes, coffee
Ate about 10:00 or so. Worked out decently, though quite hungry by dinnertime.
Dinner: 2 taco bell chicken burritos, beefy fritos burrito, slider, empanada
Too much food and LOTS of calories. And yet ... empty.
Also: 16 oz two hearted ale
Exercise: Nope.
Try again tomorrow.

Crack Encore
Tuesday, January 13, 2015
So yesterday ended with a crack. And I was so close to making it. I made it home without picking anything up and -- this is very rare for me -- ended up going back out to get a pizza. FAIL. At least I then stayed up for another five or six hours watching the football game but good grief.
A collateral consequence of staying up way too late two nights in a row is that my schedule is even more screwed up than usual. I don't feel too horrible which is nice but it will be a pain trying to fix it!
Breakfast: Salami, coffee
Same as yesterday, a little less salami since it's a late breakfast.

Let's Do This Seattle?
Monday, January 12, 2015
Well, all things considered I am in a pretty good frame of mind this morning. We will see just how solid my determination is but right at the moment I want to do this. Get it going, get it fixed.
I didn't jump right in with exercise. Up far too late last night. I'm actually surprised that I feel mostly decent given that I had maybe six hours of sleep. At least it was good sleep.
Breakfast: Salami, coffee
One of the things I need to do is be more consistent about taking pictures again. I feel like I am much more accountable for the things I eat when I document them that way. Of course I didn't take any this morning, but at least I can say 6 slices of salami and a large black Tim Hortons Coffee.
Lunch: Qdoba burrito bowl, water
Forgot to take a picture, oops. It didn't occur to me but I bet they'd be happy to sub lettuce for rice and I should do that next time. I had rice, pinto beans, steak, fajita veggies, queso diablo, light sour cream, light cheese, pico, hot salsa and a healthy dash of guac. Probably 1,000 calories or more but since it's "the meal" I'm okay with that!
Dinner: Deluxe pizza
Fail.
Exercise: Nope.

Well, all things considered I am in a pretty good frame of mind this morning. We will see just how solid my determination is but right at the moment I want to do this. Get it going, get it fixed.
